"Blood for Blood" is the first film in my "SAURIA" Animated Series.
This film explores the ongoing war between the imperialistic BlueSong Empire and the more barbaric Kindred of the Tusk clan. The film follows a captive Tusk Kindred war chieftain named Taurox.
Taurox is one of the greatest and most feared fighters in all of SAURIA, but the BlueSong are a very prideful and honourable people. Instead of executing him on the spot or leaving him to rot in a cell, they have decided that his execution must be a public event. He must die in arena combat. Fair arena combat. When he inevitably falls this will prove BlueSong superiority over the greatest fighter that opposes them.
How long will SAURIA's greatest fighter last against the might of the BlueSong Empire?

"Blood for Blood" is the first of 3 SAURIA films I have planned. I've been working on this series for over a year now. It has been a tremendous amount of work, and I am very happy with how Episode 1 turned out! I wanted to create something unabashadly awesome and I think I achieved that! ^_^
Hope you guys all like it too.
MAKING OF:
czcams.com/video/zsCM0vwTfKI/video.html
Hello DeadSound, what kind of animation programming do you use to be able to make this type of animation
I wanted to do this type of animation when I get to a more advanced point of drawing and art
We shall await tomorrow's video eagerly!
Your making of videos are always a joy to watch :)
100% hell yes, this is awesome

The chief's the embodiment of "I'm not trapped in here with you, YOU'RE trapped in here with ME"
Exactly
This... is not your prison. This... this is your vengeance!
Such a good line.
I LOVE it, and now I’m curious to see the bluesong’s side of the story
Soldier from Team Fortress 2 would be proud.
Perfectly encapsulates that sort of energy.
I love how the more gentle looking dinosaurs are the invading empire and the brutal and more sinister ones are the resistance just trying to protect their land.
Reminds me of British colonists and native american indians in a way.
Rome vs the Celts
Fact the carnos have carnivores only on their side makes them look like sticking to their roots and being primitive, relying on savagery and instinct while the Blue Song have herbivores and omnivores with them to make them seem more evolved.
Like Far cry primal look at the Udam and Sun walkers in a way?
The theropods men are de good guys, I knew
history is written by the victor or w/e, right?
birds keep winning, using their smarts to their advantage "look, big ol brutus slapped captain Cragglesby, they must surely be made extinct now for this to be fair?"
>opens door to highly protected compound
>chooses to be imprisoned
>slaughters multiple blue song soldiers with ease
>rips prison door off hinges
>still REFUSES to leave
Most legendary character I've seen written in a while. Outstanding work.
The fact that the dinosaur man isn't really trapped and can escape anytime he wants yet chooses not to so he can prove a point, he has earned my respect. Ultra Chad dino man.

ALL HAIL TAUROX, CHIEFEST OF ALL KINDRED OF THE TUSK! ALL HAIL TAUROX! ALL HAIL THE TUSKED MESSIAH!
the realization at the end that, even though the chief is imprisoned, its to rid of their strongest soldiers so they can eventually fall.. thats SICK. It's also to avenge his companion that fell into battle? that's also cool as fuck. the world building is so cool so far, and i'm excited to see more.
Thats actually pretty smart!
He probably got defeated intentionally to set that up, even.
@@bkjeong4302 nah at the end he litterly walked up to the gates pretty sure he just walked in and straight to a cell

“The greatest of their ranks, they offer themselves to me, like sacrifices”
This quote is both so amazing and terrifying that loop back around to being amazing 🤩
Its a quote that beautifully highlight's Taurox's genius and the Blue Song's Vainglorious nature. He is a Cyanide pill they have willingly swallowed.
He´s not trapped there with them, they are trapped there with him😈
He’s going to destroy them from the inside.
That gave me chills. The visuals are just amazing!
@@reubencaldwell8494And the fact he's destroying their best soldiers one by one which is a dumb idea from the blue king
The way Taurox easily rips the door from his cell showing that he could easily escape.
The realization of his rescuer that he never need one to begin with.
Amazing, just amazing!
Yeah but the description says that he succumbed. If it escaped It could kill the chancellor and stop the war
@@ctenophoractenophora not necessarily, the chancellor is definitely heavily fortified and idc how powerful you are. You can't beat what will likely amount to whole castle on your own. Trying to go for the head in this situation will only get the chieftain killed. And I think he knows that. This tactic, even if slow, is more reasonable considering the nature of the tusk kindred. Every elite he kills is an elite his tribe doesn't need to worry about. Kill a high ranking officer, and suddenly a whole squad or even platoon is of the game board for a while. He is right. Rather then blindly slashing at foot soldiers, he placed himself in a position where every single high value military assassination target is handed to him on a silver platter. In there, he can do more.
@@okashiromi5541 But the first time the chancellor appears, she was accompanied by only two soldiers. And as you can see, Bluesong soldiers don't usually have a good defense so Taurox could just kill the three with his bare hands.
I quite like how this film begins with the statement that no one know how they managed to catch him and ends showing that they never did
😮😮😮
We need more prehistoric fantasy stuff like this!
Agreed
agreed
Damn right
I want a video game in this universe with this exact art style.
Primal doesn't count?
I know we're all talking about how brilliantly tactical the chieftan's willingness to stay "imprisoned" is in order to whittle down the enemy's finest and best fighters...
But can we take a moment to appreciate the MESSAGE he's sending to those BlueSongs by breaking open the prison door and then STILL choosing to return to his cell? When they come to see him, they're going to see that, and it's going to send that message that he is there by choice, and they cannot truly hold him...
Absolute chad behavior
Yeah, I can imagine them coming in to bring him to next fight and seeing the big hole in the ceiling and him sitting in the open cell, completely unbothered. What a perturbing sight that would be.
I bet he would pretend that the carnosaur was injured still and he wanted to tend/comfort it.
If I was a guard I would back out slowly………..
It gets even better once you realise which arm he used to tear the lock off. The guy's a beast
I like how the two different dinosauroids don't just look like hybrids of dinos and people. One is clearly evolved from Troodontids, and the other looks like Ceratosaurus.
They’re actually carnotaurus but carnotaurus is part of the clade ceratosauia so they are related
@@firytwigcarnotaurus are in the same genus as ceratosaurs
@@yeahokbuddy2510 They are both in the clade ceratosauria but they are in different families, ceratosauridae and abelisauridae respectively. Abelisauridae being closer to noasauridae. And also they can’t be the same genus because ceratosaurs and carnotaurus are both genuses and are incredibly different. 77 million years seperate the two, Ceratosaurus in the late Jurassic 153-148 and Carnotaurus in the late Cretaceous 71-69 ma. Making you closer temporally to Carnotaurus than Ceratosaurus was, and even more time was between them and their latest common ancestor. The names we use to refer to dinosaurs are almost exclusively the genus, very few have multiple species. If you are curious though the species for them are Carnotaurus sastrei and Ceratosaurus Nasicornis.
@@firytwig you know your stuff. Are you a paleo major?
@@yeahokbuddy2510 I’m just a big nerd lol. There are people who are much more knowledgeable than me out there but thank you!
All I can say is that, we need more paleo x fantasy in media these days, Dinotopia is the only one I can think of a paleo-fantasy story and after seeing the first episode I immediately feel in love with every it had to offer and I’m getting HEAVY Primal vibes from this. I do can’t wait to see the other episodes because the world building that is set up, the characters, and the animation especially are really intriguing!
Have you heard of the Planegea campaign setting for 5e D&D? Look it up, you may like it!
I don't know if it is appropriate to plug personal material, but if it's what you're looking for, my Gallus Galacticus album is fully animated and has strong paleo x fantasy themes especially in the 1st, 6th, and 7th tracks. It's no where near the production quality of this, though. lol
have you read west of eden its the best ive seen
Couldn't agree more!
As a fantasy nerd myself, I feel like the genre's been shafted in 2023
Thank you all for the great suggestions! I’ll be sure to check them out and it’s nice to see Paleo x Fantasy stuff and I really want to see more of them! Keep it going ^^
The best part of Taurox’s speech was when he ripped the cell door open with his bare hands. If he wanted to escape, he would’ve done so already. And by staying, he kills the best warriors of his enemies and destroys them from within.
Also he comrades don't die like in an all out war
At the very least he weakens them, which gives his people a fighting chance against the hadrosaur invaders. A brutally effective killer that's also quite smart and cunning.
He doesn’t destroy them from within. He has been tamed. As long as he is fed he is no threat. His feeding isn’t cheap, but the price is very small in comparison. The empire is assured it’s ability to expand, and taurox gets to keep killing the blues. It’s interesting. Hell of a piece.
@@robertaylor9218 That is an interesting idea. I think it depends on how the Tusken are organized. If they are like Edo era samurai they're just a bunch of individual tribes led by warlords and his position would make sense. But if they are a united people under his banner, what he's doing is incredibly short-sighted and selfish. He's hanging his entire people out to dry and leaving them easy pickings for the organized, more advanced BlueSong nation.
Doesn't mean you are wrong at all, but it would put an whole different look on the situation.
@@ArchTeryx00 I thought it said he was the rallying warlord, so kind of like Shingen or Nobunaga from the warring states period. As in, they are individual tribes, but an exceptional individual could bind them together (or at least throw them in the same general direction) against a common foe.
The ending just shows how much blind and foolish the birds really are, having a thought that they could rid the chieftain once and for all without realizing why he surrendered in the first place
The fact he's literally destroying them from the inside by letting the king sends his best high rank soldiers to fight him in the arena
The birds claiming to be the evolved ones since they are closer with modern birds while the scaly chieftain and his race though seen as primitive aren't to be look down on.
Also the Blue leader is actually a female.
@@senpie6639It's a female and she's their chancelior.
The fact they don’t just starve him out like said befor just shows how confident they truly are, they think they have tamed him and that they can get something out of him befor his death.
How they have gull to try and commodify him is beyond me
Well the description might illudes to his death
Absolutely awesome!
I love the strategy behind the Chieftain staying in the arena to eliminate the best fighters so his brothers don’t have to face them.
He makes himself a slave and entertains the enemies and in the process destroys the enemies' best warriors so that his people, his brothers, don't have to confront something like that.
"This is not your prison. This... this is your vengeance!" Such a powerful line.
Very cool! I love the "I'm not locked in here with them, they're locked in here with me" aspect of the story, and I hope we'll see how this progresses and maybe some future stories with the younger warrior and how their tribe adjusts without the chieftain.
Also love how the factions have a general vibe of Strength vs Dexterity and how that shows in their weapons, armor, choice in mounts, architecture, and even how the move. Very, very cool.
It’s a strategy I’m surprised I haven’t seen more often! “Oh, so I can just stay here, train up and whittle down their ranks from the inside? Works for me lmao.” Clever bastard, that Taurox.
@@thatkidwiththehoodieClever boy indeed.
@@berandom2000 it’s like battle strategy and workout routine rolled into one lmao
@@thatkidwiththehoodiesad it only means the blue ones are idiots because even a child would see through torax plan so disappointing his plan only works because the plot makes it so not because of his so-posed intelligence
@@mxb1585 you’re confusing plot holes with character flaws. Taurox says the Blue Song wishes for him to die fair. Presumably executing him outright or leaving him to starve in his cell would be considered dishonourable to them. He’s using their pride and code of honour against them. Besides, the idea of pride being an enemy faction’s undoing is not a new one.

Do be like that
This is giving me 'Primal' vibes 🦖 absolute class!
I like the inversion of the typical heroic fantasy "slave-gladiator-rebel-leader-king", by having chieftan choosing to become an enslaved gladiator for his own twisted vengeance.
And I also like that you choose to show the perspective of more scary looking side first, even if we get to see perspective of the empire later, it still works great to subvert the usual assumptions of who is good and bad that popculture has primed us to. I'm enjoying it and await next two chapters.
Holy shit, mad respect for the War Chieftain, as long as BlueSong offers him thier best warriors, we will stay. Sacrificing his honor to be thier plaything while also destroying them from the insides.
Insane story writing, perfect animation and the voice acting OOOOOOOOHHH YEEEAH

i absolutely love that therisinosaurus. It's a way to make a dinosaur accurate and cool at the same time.
This is literally the dinosaur version of the Tau & the Orks of "Warhammer 40k"! I love it!
Seraphon would like a word
Also Taurox, the Brass Bull are one of Beastmen leaders
For legal purposes, this has absolutely nothing to do with warhammer in any way
o.o
????
The blue dinos are way to proud and bound by honour to be Tau - Tau are way too practical to let something like "honor code" or something to stop them from doing their job. The entire faction theme is efficiency.
Red dino is way too cunning, intelligent and emotional to be an Ork. He was closely tied with his companion and morns it's death - unlike the Orks. He fights for something more than fighting alone - he has a purpose - greater than simple fighting.
They are nothing alike.
I love the attention to detail. The subtle movements of the nostrils, the slack jaw of the dead carnotaur. All the creature designs look stunning.
I love how the chieftan is brutish and beastial but by no means stupid and is simply taking the long haul approach to this conflict i absolutely love it!
he's not only intelligent but also fatherly. He keeps his brotherhood out of the war and avenges his dead ones, especially his war horse
Yeah, pretty ironic and I never meant to vote a dislike so I rectified it with a like
The art direction of the project is immaculate, I swear every project Deadsound produces by the saurian gods.
You had me at "Badass dinosaur warriors", I really love this entire concept. Superb execution as well. I appreciate that the BlueSong have velociraptors, the division isn't so cliche as "carnivores vs herbivores" and that adds some depth to the worldbuilding. I get Conan vibes from Taurox, which is always a good thing. Definitely looking forward to seeing more!
I like how they add more personality to Taurox. At first, he appears to be your standard strong chief archetype. But we see that he has both emotion (his bond with his beast) and intelligence (him killing the BlueSong’s strongest warriors).
love EVERYTHING about this already; the lore, the world, the designs....we've been needing something like this for ages! Some dark-fantasy series with dinosaurs and such- been begging for something like this for a long time.
Really excited to see how this goes!
That was honestly so epic. I can't wait to see where this goes. So original.
As much as I love the Autodale series, it is what introduced me to the wonderful world of Dead Sound after all, I also recognize that this poor soul is pretty much burned out of making those not quite short short films, so it makes me happy to see more work being made by this absolute badass of an animator, and that he's making things that, I presume, make him happy to create and don't feel like a job. That itself is enough for me.
Also, pretty colored reptilians. That helps.
My thoughts exactly.
Absolutely amazed by Blood for Blood - it was a masterful tale that I loved from the first time I watched it. Creating the music for it was one of the most enjoyable experiences I've had as a composer, and I'm deeply grateful for the opportunity. Thanks a lot, David!
Love the choice of Carnotaurus, very underrated compared to the "classics".
This show has so much potential. I was very sad that the dinosaur series ended but this right here is a great replacement
The hand on his stead and companion’s head at the end really got me. That beast was loyal to a fault I’m sure and that loss hurts worse than a lot of things. His “surrender” truly is blood for blood. SOO COOOOL!!!
That beast and he grew up and fought together their entire lives, they were essentially brothers.
He didn’t surrender. He was in their by choice, he could’ve left whenever he felt like it.instead he wants to kill their greatest warriors, tearing them apart from the inside.
Also, I absolutely *adore* how we are at first led to believe the chieftan is a failed simple-minded warrior that has sunk into depression over defeat, when in actuality he's an *incredibly* cunning long-term thinker with an eye for good sabotage that is also the most physically dominating threat in the war. This man is an actual problem.
This is so much better than anything Hollywood make these days. And it's episode one! Which means there's gonna be more!! Can't wait
god each new upload im just blown away
i love how these characters are so fleshed out with little dialogue, and i especially love how you flipped the red and blue for the different sides! we always see red as this evil colour and blue as being good, so to see them swapped was amazing to see and offers buts of subtle storytelling i absolutely loved!!
can’t wait to see more of this world! :DD
There’s something remarkably, and gruesomely beautiful about this world and the art style (as expected of David) does it complete justice. Can’t wait for the making-of and episode two! I wanna diver deeper into this series!
You're kidding right?! You can't just get away with making a banger of a film like this, and not get more praise!?! That's criminal!!! Man everything you make just gets better and better! So excited for the next two in this series! If I'm being honest though, you should really make this into a full length film. It's so great!!!
Dude, you managed to create a very good idea even though it only took 8 minutes, the result is incredible, my deepest congratulations and I hope I continue with the project because it was surprising and an idea that I can give and show more species of both carnivores and herbivores and other classes of "dinohumans" I can see a great future in this series ^^ it's very incredible, congratulations OwO
Dear David James Armsby
I think you should turn Sauria into a comic/manga series, not only do I think people will love it, I think you will make lots of money selling these books. I recommend creator owned companies like Image Comics or Kodansha Comics, I'd love to read them! Maybe these animated shorts can be promotional materials for the comic series.
Love your work man.
It’s just so incredible how much effort something like this takes, really amazing work!
Absolutely amazing. I love the softcore worldbuilding on display, the fact the Blue Song's race are omnivorous and the brutal cunning of Taurox, showing he ain't just some savage berserker but a cunning and lethal thing. The Vainglorious Blue Song allow him to play his game against them. I cannot wait to see more of this world.
This is literally gonna be my new obsession. I've been starved for Dinosaur content for a while so this is absolute gold!
The animation is fantastic, and the story is so interesting, the character design are beautiful it makes me wanna buy them as figures. Keep up the great work!! Can't wait to see more!
Honestly David makes the best animations. This might not be as surreal as his past works but it Sure is recognisable as his style. He also has really thought provoking quotes.
The hype for this newest film series was real, and boy did it deliver!! Not only is it a fresh take on a pre-historic dinosaur society, but the look of it is amazing and very nice to watch. This film does not get the attention that really deserves, i swear for god this is a masterpiece.
Finally got to watch this, and my God. The subtle movements in the nostrils? The breathing sounds and movements? EXCELLENT.
Absolutely fantastic start! I love the detail on the war chieftain. I like that you added claws to his three main digits and left the rest bare, and the detail of giving him lips over his main line of teeth, but keeping larger, tusk like teeth bare. An awesome design choice.
Really a strong way to start this amazing prehistoric fantasy you've built up! There's also a sense of poetic irony that the Chief's using the Bluesaur's own arrogance and superiority against them them reminding us that sometimes the smartest people aren't always what one thinks.
But bluesongs killed him
@@ctenophoractenophoraThey did not.
Not yet they have. But he's going to make sure he takes as many as to pay for his Carnotaur's death as he can.
That’s actually really smart on the part of the cheften. He basically let the blusong think he surrenders and that they now have the only hope for the resistance to win the war,but in reality taurox is the puppet master and now has free access to killing off the strongest and most powerful warriors the enemies have they were probably going to have in the final part of the war, allowing his solder's to win the war easily and only then will taurox and the carno he has made friends with escape and rejoin the rebellion.
As a Lizard Folk player in DnD love this movie. It basically shows exactly what for me is the perfect Lizard Folk Lore!!! I'm already looking forward to the next two films!
That’s actually really smart. He basically has free access to culling off the strongest warriors the enemies have
Even more than that. He could potentially have a shot at taking out the BlueSong leadership and decapitating their command structure, maybe even at killing whoever the BlueSong Chanceller/empress is.
Sad the Blue ones are idiots though they seem to be no threat
"Chieftain, we've come to rescue you from this prison ...
... Chieftain ... ? ..."
"Their Chancellor should leave me to starve..."
Such a great opening dialog. They're not on the same wavelength at all. And the way the rescuer starts to understand is just so awesome. Quality, have been hungry for this kind of atuff my entire life. Glad it's you who contributes 👌
Its a clash of completely different cultures
Mr. Armsby, let it be known that you are one of the best animators I have ever seen.
THIS. These are the kinds of stories CZcams was MADE for. Keep up the work, I'd like to see where this story goes.
It begins!
And called it on the BlueSong Empire being the villains of the entire series.
Taurox using his imprisonment to his advantage to weaken the BlueSongs from behind enemy lines…seems like the BlueSongs really underestimate the intelligence of everything other than themselves. A good deconstruction of the idea of “evolutionary levels” and the notion of coelurosaurs being smarter than other theropods by default (which was based on outdated ideas about crocodilians that were based on the idea of evolutionary levels).
This is gorgeous! The lip syncing is wonderful. Can't wait to see the behind the scenes, and the rest of the series!
This film was so cool! The design was amazing, the set up was familiar but fresh, and the narrative gave me chills! I don't know how you manage to always make your films feel so fresh and energized, but this was really impressive. Can't wait to see how you explore this new world in later shorts.
Wow. The storyline is epic. Absolutely well thought off and strategic. Can’t wait for the other two parts. Big love and all the best.
He doesn’t even need a Oscar at this point he needs more views and subscribers
this is probably one of if not the best animated films i have ever seen. The quality of animation is what i would expect from an entire studio, the scripting an VA work is all fantastic, and the sheer amount of work you must have put into it! the concept, the storytelling, all of it is fantastic!

I'VE WAITED SO LONG, THIS IS ALREADY SO AMAZING ❤❤❤❤❤
I love this, everything from the dramatic music/chanting, to the story.
One thing I really appreciate is that the trousers of the cheiften has a hole in the back for the tail, I love that kind of attention to detail, and while watching this I learned what I was doing wrong when I draw lizards and reptiles -namely around the edge of the lip and the lower jaw, so thank you as always for the inspiration.
This channel is the reason I first started aspiring to be an animator.
Posting a comment here because 1) I don't know if I did on this one before, 2) the algorithm is one heck of a fighter, and 3) this series is amazing and deserves more attention, as do you the creator and the people you work with.
Combination of accuracy and fantasy is so good
Oh, this is gonna be *_GOOD!_* 😁
Nice to see Torosaurus here too, it's really lived in Triceratops' shadow for too long now.
I remember Walking With Dinosaurs now
The character design in this is phenomenal.
This is so absolutely amazing! If the big movies would get back to this kind of work. Atmosphere and story over effects. Keep it up! Whatever series you are doing, you sure do it with a level of passion rarely found nowadays.
This is one of the most imaginative animated short films I have ever seen.
Absolutely beautiful film. I already love the world that is being created and can't wait to see the making of this setting, film, and the next 2 episodes as well. Feels like a wonderful mix of classical fantasy with new elements as well, and it just makes me want to learn more about this setting you created!

This is awesome, thank god you’re making more😭😭 this is giving me dnd character inspiration
Wow! This is a perfect plot for a war between races. If it becomes a all war after some events
I've been so utterly excited for the arrival of SAURIA!! This is incredible, shiver-inducing work. As somebody who is on the squeamish side, I absolutely love the direction you took with the gore- both overt and implied (specifically the decrowning)- and overall violence. It's not over the top, but it is still the brutal truth of this war-torn world.
Absolutely adoring the plot twist too. This entire project gives me such nostalgia for works like Conan the Barbarian and other dark fantasies. Looking extremely forward to parts 2 & 3!! :]]
After this trilogy ends, Imagine what else he can do with this franchise to expand the world and lore of Sauria. Novels, Comics, and even a possible Indie animated series on Television. Imagine the VAs for it. Such as Fred Tatasciore, Kevin Michael Richardson, and Kirk Thornton. All of these Vas are known for voicing brutes in fiction. Sense the main inspiration is Action figures, we should get a toy line inspired by the original 80s He-Man action figures and play sets.
I honestly have no word to describe how gorgeous this is other than absolute masterpiece!

He's a one man crew! There's only one person making these amazing videos!
You see, it's not a team, it's just one guy. One guy is making these masterpieces. Art takes time.
care to pinch in ?
Can somebody give this guy a TV show? I want to see this grow until I can binge it in like 10 years
If it ever became a TV series, they would probably replace the animator, change the story, change the lore and end up making something completely different.
I am super excited for more short films of Sauria! Great job as always, and such a unique story.
Your animations are ALWAYS well worth the wait!!
