  • Hi Patrons, Sorry about the lack of available content, there will be more soon. The Munted Starlet is now not munted, so we can close the book on that car, the video will be up over the next few days. I'll also sort out a thumbnail for this video as well, cheers and as always, thanks so much for your support!
    Well, as the title suggests we're finally replacing the rear springs on our beloved old XW Falcon, a car I completed the restoration of 7 years ago. We also get hold of 4 peachy XA Falcon doors for the soon-to-arrive XA Fairmont... hope you enjoy!

    Peter, I fitted a set of King FOR-501 leaf springs and Lovells ‘Super lowered V8’ coils in my XW Falcon 500 sedan. The car when full of fuel weighs 3160lb so probably several hundred pounds lighter than yours. I have 215/65 R14 tyres fitted and the ride heights from the floor to the guard lip at each corner (without the driver) are as follows: LHS front 625mm, LHS rear 628mm, RHS front 650mm, RHS rear 653mm. Unsurprisingly the right-hand side sits higher than the left. Would be interested to know what the heights are for yours. Either way I think your car’s ride height looks about right now.

    • @PeterAndersons
      @PeterAndersons  Před rokem

      I don't really know, Ace exhausts supplied and fitted it. It's a twin 2" with triple flow mufflers but nothing else; no resonators, nothing. I'll dig out the receipt book when I get home. It's weird, Windsors and Clevo's have the same firing order, but the Windsor sounds more like an FE - they sound tougher than a Clevo in my opinion. The XW sounds a little better now since it has a few miles on it... like literally only a few haha

    Hi there Peter
    I thankyou also for your videos in helping me get my xw on the road again after being neglected 20 years.
    My question is as I am looking to club register the car also and know the general procedure but not sure about the log book entries for eg. Say on a particular day I would take kids to school in morning then around lunchtime cruise around a bit then visit mum etc etc. Do you log these entries as individualy before you set off with time starts etc or can you enter just cruise till 11:59.....

    • @farnthboy
      @farnthboy Před 2 lety

      Not sure about Vic but in NSW only need to log at start of day. Under NSW rules if you went around Aussie you would only have to log start of trip as the rest is deemed part of the single trip. Don't have to log to go to car club events.

    And with the power steering I drove an xr that the owner had fitted an XF power steering box and it drove the best of any of that generation falcon, he was very knowledgeable about engineering, not as much knowledge as you, he told me that only 1 bolt lines up so he to modify the rail by fitting 2 holes and crush tubes, grinding the rail slightly so the box can be rotated to line it up and using the XF pump and lines as something about them having a valve in them to reduce the power steering the faster the vehicle is moving, apparently the first model falcon to have this feature

    My 1976 XB 'Standard' (not 500), had a 200 engine and no chrome/radio/rear window demister, 3 in the tree, bench front seat and vinyl floors, had exactly the same door handles, they stopped working, so I adjusted the threaded nylon door lock pull and wired it to the opener rod, worked better than new - handles I believe are/were identical to the XA Fairmont....

    I put a xf steering box in a xy. No doubt you are aware of the bolt up issue as previously mentioned. The only care points is make sure the column goes in to make sure the rag joint alignment is correct and the column shaft is centred in the column tube. Being a column shift this is more important to you than me. Then you can mark/weld your crush tubes in the correct spot. The xf box is much bigger than xy and does have a small rail clearance issue. I’m sure you won’t have the exhaust issue I had with a clevo with alloy heads. So that’s nice. At the end of a the day it’s still a steering box which is a shame as it’s a big job. I wished I put a rrs rack conversion in despite the cost I should have just paid up and been happy. On a side note first stop in a v8 falcon is always the servo. As I was watching the drive footage I was thinking. Look at all these other cars on the road. Not one is going to be memorable in anyway.
