- The Maryland Terps joined the Big Ten 10 years ago this week. Can Oregon, Washington, USC and UCLA learn from their example as they navigate the new world of college football once they join the conference next month?
TERPS SHOW THE WAY FOR 4 NEW BIG TEN TEAMS
The Terps took the long road to respectability as Mike Locksley has just posted back to back 8-win seasons. Oregon and USC may scoff at the Maryland 10-year-plan. The Ducks and Trojans want to take the Big Ten by storm right away in the 2024 college football season. Washington is an unknown fresh off its national championship appearance and UCLA may be on a Maryland-type trajectory.

Meanwhile Big Ten teams are all in on recruiting we will have the latest news out of Michigan as they try to land a trio of offensive players. And Oregon and USC try to go after some big, big offensive lineman. Plus the Ducks get another 5-star player. Oregon has a national top 5 class of recruits for 2025.

Plus it is midweek so it is time for our Power Rankings. Look, we all know Michigan vs Ohio State is the best rivalry in the Big Ten and the country for that matter. But with the addition of 4 new west coast teams they bring their rivalries with them. So we'll look at a recent Power Ranking of the top Big Ten college football rivalries and whether we agree or disagree with the list on Locked on Big 10 with Craig Shemon.

There's a genuine and long abiding hatred between Oregon and Washington..... It has long ago surpassed the in state rivalries. There's barely even the so called " sports hatred".... it's for real.
UO vs UW should be above USC vs UCLA.
Other than OSU/ Michigan, there’s rivalries but not necessarily hate in the Big Ten. But, I’ve found there’s actual hate with those 4 West Coast teams/fan bases. But, USC and UCLA hate Oregon too, not just Washington.

UW/OR is a very very bitter rivalry.
Washingtonians always looking down on us, but they don’t realize and forgetting they’re still Oregonians. They should start looking back at the history that their land is part of Oregon territory. They are the in state #1 rival. We’re the fathers and they’re the sons. Fact🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

@dougrobinson6683 I've only attended a Washington game against Illinois at Husky Stadium in 2013, but walked the Oregon Football facilities and campus. Oregon has wanted to be a college football power since 1994 when Phil Knight/Nike infused a ton of money/resources into the Ducks program. The Huskies-Ducks rivalry looks bitter and mean from an outside perspective!
GO TERPS!!!!! We have struggled at first but we have played Michigan and Ohio State hard these past couple of years. Don’t sleep on us. We can shock some teams!

Washington just played in the national championship game. I'm not even a fan of their program, but they deserve a lot more respect than this. They are above Maryland for sure and have a strong history of football success.
Unfortunately they have, quite literally, no one coming back from that team. Coaches, starters, etc. are all gone. They're starting from scratch, which is a startling downfall from a national championship game appearance.

Huskies 19th overall 7th in the B1G per 247 and they aren’t done. Huskies-Ducks is a top 5 B1G rivalry, this is genuine hate.
UCLA has 121 national championships by comparison. Not conference championships
UCLA have 123 National Championships and UCLA and USC have a winning record vs Oregon and Washington is football…

Well the Oregon territory is the original Territory. The newcomer was carved out later, up north.
We have more waterfalls and nicer beaches that your gravel coasts up north can't compare with it.

Are u for real? Comparing Washington to Maryland in coming to the big 10 is ridiculous and ignorant. UW has won two national titles, been in the national championship game last year, been to two Final fours in In Championship series all by excellence in coaching and players.
Don’t get wrapped up in flash but bang out top teams while being one of best academic institutions in the country.
Absurd comparing UCLA and UW to Maryland. B1G aint all that. The top with Michigan, OSU and even PSU are good but the middle and lower tiers with the lack of offense scares no one. The Pac 4 newcomers will settle in the higher echelon of the B1G.
Maryland’s 49 B1G championships are 3rd most over the last decade behind only Michigan and Ohio State.

Comparing Washington to Maryland is a joke. Washington made two CFPs in the last 10 years. More than any other school in the new B1G, other than Ohio St and Michigan. Penn st and USC have zero apperances.
