My thoughts on Aziraphale: I see him as a child of abuse. Heaven is this abusive household that threatens him all the time and makes him do things, he thinks are wrong and then gaslights him into thinking it is right because it's the will of God. And yeah, as a person with a shit load of religious trauma, I know how fucking hard it is to break out of that system. So naturally he couldn't say no to heaven. And Crowley is the perfect depiction of someone who has left a religious cult and he carries his own kind of religious trauma (like he can't stand being in any way associated with heaven or called a good person). So Aziraphale will eventually realise that he can't chose heaven and still have his own morals and he will probably crush under the weight of his internal moral struggle. And when that happens, he and Crowley need to sit down for a cup of tea and talk about it. At length. And then help eachother to heal.
Big agree! I didnt really feel like discussing religious trauma in this video because i wanted it to be more lighthearted but that definitely was a part of why aziraphale did what he did. Would pin your comment if youtube allowed me to!
@@zemantler As someone who first read Good Omens before Amazon "Prime" even existed (and had the amazing opportunity to do so on a copy signed by Gaiman himself), I can certainly say that I have been living with these characters for a long time. I think it's important to remember that this project was not just an adaptation, but a love letter, a tribute, and the fulfilment of a final wish by one of his heros and dearest friends. Gaiman isn't going to do anyone dirty here. This is for the fans, but it never would've been made if it weren't for Terry's last request. It's meant to reflect that dream. This season, especially the final episode, is absolutely necessary because no relationship is flawless. In this case when the fear of being discovered was removed not only did they have to confront honesty but also learn the difference between codependency and interdependence. TLDR: other than what you have so well-covered here, my only strong theory about season 3 is that "I Want To Break Free" is going to be featured.
Sure it's devastating, and sure I might have spent multiple days pretty much comatose afterwards, but just THINK how great season 3 is going to be when they get back together. Like, because obviously they'll get back together. And it'll be so satisfying!! It'll be the greatest love story of all time.
I watched it 16 times already and counting. I am not gonna stop until I know season three is renewed and then I can take a break and re-watch season one and two before season three officially drops.
Right, they both look miserable, Azi looks like he’s trying to be happy and focus on the new job, but obviously doubts are surfacing. I’m not convinced he’s properly mourned the bookshop either
The thing that everyone is glossing over is the literal religious lore in motion in that moment. The Metatron’s whole thing is that his presence turns the worst feelings into happiness. Azi’s eyes in the elevator scene (the windows of the soul) look like he’s about to burst from within, while his smile (the curtains) looks hysterical and out of place. So like… I feel like it wasn’t just him trusting the process, more like he’s fallen into a mental trap straight away
He's not excited! He's scared. He wants to have Crowley with him cause Crowley is his insurance and assurance. When he's with Crowley, he's certain he'll do the right thing. After leaving him, he's not so sure anymore. I think he instantly began to doubt his decision after nightingalegate.
I really hated the fandom those first days. yall are joking now but the Gaiman and Aziraphale hate was intense and I really thought the fandom had regressed into ZERO media literacy. Thankfully everyone has calmed down now, and are now understanding that the story is trying to explore such deep themes about trauma, abuse, but also love. edit: I loved listening to your insights and would love more!
Wait there was Aziraphale hate?? Like for those first few days I heavily avoided any social media talking about it because I didn't want to be spoiled since I couldn't watch it right away. I knew there was hate for Mr. Gaiman (which is upsetting because why? i really don't understand) but Aziraphale?? I get *the upset that he chose to go with Metatron but he also had his reasons too and while I was extremely sad he didn't choose Crowley, in a way Aziraphale was still thinking of him AND Crowley. Both of them were thinking about what they thought was best for the other without actually talking about it to see if they both agree.
I was 1 week late to the party and I am SO happy that I missed this initial nastiness. indeed, my first task was to tag Neil on Twitter and THANK him for the amazing season. did it hurt? yes. do I wish it had ended differently? no. I just want to see Season 3 as soon as possible because we need to sort this mess out. blaming Neil for being a great storyteller is silly. especially since he gave the fandom EXACTLY what we wanted - he gave us the gayest, most remarkable love story and he made us feel deeply for fictional characters. he took our ships and our ideas and our hopes and dreams and he FILMED them. everyone's been saying that they never expected ineffable bureaucracy or the kiss! how could we complain after all this?

kneejerk reaction a lot of the fandom had (myself included) was to be convinced that aziraphale was in the wrong, crowley was in the right, and aziraphale should run back and beg for forgiveness. but like, think about it. part of crowley's whole dramatic confession was trying to convince aziraphale to run away together before the next big apocalypse comes to earth. this is not the first time he's asked this of aziraphale, and it's not the first time aziraphale has said no. he can't leave humanity. he can't run away with crowley (no matter how much he might like the idea of it) and just abandon earth to heaven's judgment. which is directly in opposition to crowley's flight instinct. crowley is a good person, but when the going gets tough he wants to pack his shit and run (see both their breakups in season 1, and the argument they have about gabriel in s2e1). aziraphale has just been presented with the opportunity to be part of heaven's decision making process. the opportunity to have the most power over heaven that an angel could ever hope to have. think of how appealing that would be. being able to protect crowley from heaven and hell, being able to prevent or at least stall the next apocalypse. of course he chose to leave. better crowley be heartbroken than dead.
Yes! I was so surprised when everyone hated on our precious angel - my very first reaction was very much “ has everyone forgotten that the universe is going to shut down in a second?” And Crowley is every bit as much a liar as Aziraphale, he hasn’t cut ties with Hell. He speaks with Shax on a regular basis. Season 2 to me was very much setting up the mood for season 3. And it is angsty, nobody knows what’s going on and everyone is pointing f*cking fingers. But everyone loves an “angst with a happy ending” tag ❤
yeah, part of me was like "Crowley, if you just run away from the battle, won't heaven and hell just destroy all of creation? wasn't that the point the whole time? won't Alpha Centuri also be destroyed? will you just hover in space with your angel when everything is destroyed? is this how you imagine your ever after?" my read was that Zira just wanted to protect Earth and make sure that Crowley can continue enjoying his life as he knows it. "better heartbroken than dead: sounds about right. of course, there is something to be said about Crowley only loving Earth so much because he shares it with Zira... but the angel wouldn't believe that and it wouldn't even occur to him. also, they clearly have different love languages. :D
But isn't it a bit naive of Aziraphale to think that he will really be given an opportunity to interfere with the decision making process in Heaven? No one will trust Aziraphale in Heaven. Other Archangels either don't understand him or openly loathe him. His future subordinates, such as Michael and Urial were battling for Gabriel's post while Gabriel was AWOL, they certainly won't be happy that someone else got the job. It's bad enough for them even without Aziraphale being the one who got the job. And there are the aspects of questions and power. Gabriel was sucked because he tried to stop another apocalypse. Gabriel! The supreme archangel for millions of years. It didn't stop them to demote him. Crowley was condemned to the boiling sulphur because he asked a few questions. And Crowley wasn't just some lower angel either, given that he could open Gabriel's file Muriel hadn't got an access to. What could possibly make Aziraphale think that he, of all angels, might be able to make a difference, to change the bureaucracy and the thirst for war. The angels still believe in the ineffable plan they know nothing about. Aziraphale just cannot stop it. His prospects seem rather bleak. I personally think that he is set to fall in season 3.
Aziraphale didnt excited much after he got into the elevator, You can see from his eyes. But he has trained himself for being 'polite and pleasant' when he interact with Arcangels
The sequence of Aziraphale in the elevator reminded me, strangely, of the end of Pearl. When Mia Goth greets her returning husband with a big smile, vainly trying to hide the trauma behind happiness, but the cracks breaking her wide open. Aziraphale isn't as obvious as Pearl, but anxiety and pain and even regret are quite visible behind his blank smile.
In regards to the hate the show is getting, it is completly unwarranted neil is a writing genius. a cruel one, but amazingly skilled nonetheless when you delve into the characters themselves, no action was out of character. everything makes sence. aziraphale is a child or religious trauma, and he feels loyal still to heaven, and doesnt see how crowley doesnt want to be angel, because he was so happy when he was one crowley has abandonment trauma, he does not trust heaven and he sees the true nature of heaven. he wants to see with aziraphale but he does not want to go back to the people that cast him out for very little reason

This is one of the most astute observations, though I have to say when Neil is truly cruel - it can eviscerate, haunt, and traumatize you for a *very* long time. What he did here was set the fans down and explained that sometimes two people can love each other very much but being together is not always the best choice at that particular time, and you'll understand more when you're less upset and ready to understand.

If you don't understand Gabriel and Beelzebub, you should probably rewatch the season with the reveal in mind and pay closer attention to the memories. There's nothing that indicates a specific number of meetings - we're shown the most pertinent to the story related to the "clues" via media shorthand to tell us what we need to know. Have you ever read any Shakespeare? 90% of those characters are depicted as only meeting once. The amount of "love stories/romances" I could list where the two characters fall for each other after merely being in the same proximity for a brief encounter is immense. But Neil did *not* do this. It was earned. I have a sneaking suspicion that if our main duo ran off together in the finale, you wouldn't be bothered by the G/B plot and outcome in the slightest. What you're really saying is, "How dare other characters get the fairytale ending when the ones I ship are having a longer and more complex relationship arc!"

Then I remembered that they enjoy food and music, so they can also enjoy kissing. I was expecting Crowley to accept the offer and work for the good of humanity, but what he actually did was even better and more 'Crowley-like'. So no, I have no problem with that part of the ending Beelzebub and Gabriel may have had more than three meetings, but it doesn't change the fact that it started after the events of the first series. In cosmic terms, that is very less. Aziraphale and Crowley have had a relationship from the beginning of time. Do you not see that they are not in the same class? Also, I don't know why you are bringing Shakespeare into this. Whatever his plays say, we have a gold standard relationship in Good Omens itself: Aziraphale and Crowley. Edit: I don't ship anyone. I have never shipped anyone in any fandom. I am just not that kind of fan. The most fandom engagement I have ever had is this comment chain with you. My problem is that I feel cheated by the story. All the events of the second series happened because of this 'love story' between Gabriel and Beelzebub, whereas the first series happened as part of a prophesy that has been going on for millennia. The story itself takes place in several centuries with multiple threads. It's all so legendary. In this series, we have the whole story happening because of a 3-year romance. Perhaps this series is like a filler series or a link between the first series and the third one?

It's a classic act 2 of a 3 part comedy. You have to be in that 'how can this possibly work in any way' position to have a truly happy ending. Aziraphale has to lose his trust in his abusive home and walk away from it or he can never truly love Crowley, he'll alway be split. And Crowley has to find out who he is without Aziraphale because he's become Aziraphale's sidekick rather than his own person. I think that's why there's everyone assuming they're partners. No one sees Crowley as being just Crowley, they see him as being part of 'Aziraphale and Crowley'. Like Crowley said, they could always rely on each other. They don't know how to function as autonomous individuals and that's just as toxic in any relationship as being under Heaven/Hell's control. Aziraphale needs to save himself for once and Crowley needs to forgive himself. Neil did say he'd get season 3 to us one way or another even if it's not renewed by Amazon and he promised Terry. I have faith in him.
I'm really glad that you posted this because there are way too many people stuck on things like "but they're so cute together!" or as one person argued (the latter of which I thought was a really weird hang-up) "Crowley and Aziraphale have been together for 6000 years, Gabriel and Beelzebub don't *deserve* to be together [fall in love]" Firstly, I'm doing a re-watch of S1 - at this very moment - and E1 Aziraphale directly states "I am not going to help you. I'm an angel you are a demon we are hereditary enemies." - This is *after* 6000 years, Crowley saving his neck (literally) and the entire "aww" medley of them meeting repeatedly and making the arrangement regarding "cancelling each other out". Yes there are touching moments and yes it's clear they have affection for each other *however* that does not mean that they are ideal examples of romance, nor a relationship. The very fact that in the last episode of s2 a mortal who essentially knows Crowley as "six expressos in a big cup" was able to pin down the fact that they don't truly communicate with each other (after having getting out of a toxic relationship herself) says volumes. Unfortunately, he only takes away *half* of what they're trying to tell him, which is why things go south so badly when Aziraphale relays his news. ---- On a personal note: I always sort of saw it the other way around if anyone was a sidekick - but that's probably because I was introduced to the book first far before Amazon ever had an inclination to have a streaming service. TLDR; while they have a really interesting and engaging dynamic, I find it a bit weird that people look at where they were in season 2 or even when it was only season one and actually think "couples goals" - because, they aren't done baking yet.
@@jkbutterfly3142 I appreciate the compliment and I'm glad at least one other person could relate to what I saw/felt from the two of them. (I do wish I could take credit for the metaphor, but it's a slight rewording from a now disgraced creator/writer/director - still the phrasing holds up well and I don't mind using it even if the individual who originally wrote it was extremely problematic.) You make an excellent point though as well that do not only need to work on their interpersonal relationship, but also on themselves. As crushing as it was for many fans, the separation is a good opportunity to do that. (Even though Neil writes fantastical stories/characters he's still manages to stay true to certain universal truths) In this case, sometimes what is needed for two people to work out their issues not only with themselves but how to be healthier in their approach and gain perspective *is space.* While it feels extremely painful, that distance could be exactly what is needed to be more honest with themselves and with each other.
Also Act 2 of a romance, or rom com. Something always separates them at the end of Act 2. I am surprised fans didn't see that coming, and also were so upset, if it was a bland happy ending it would be dull, but also people would have complained about that for sure.
Oooo this really made me think and you brought up points I had not thought of at all!! We know several of Crowley’s basic personality traits; we knows he’s kind, very intelligent, quick-witted, reckless, brave, and definitely very bitter towards Heaven and God. But…he’s almost always him context with Aziraphale; interacting with him, helping him, doing good deeds with him, etc…so much of Crowley’s identity and life is living for Aziraphale. Everything that he does, every good thing, every brave deed (with a few exceptions) are for Aziraphale. With Aziraphale gone (at least temporarily), it will be interesting to see how Crowley reacts and what the hell he does with himself.
On rewatch the ending was SO heavily foreshadowed. I think the first time I noticed it was the scene where Crowley calls Aziraphale over for a glass of wine at the restaurant. I remember everyone thinking that scene was so cute and romantic but it seriously exposed the main issue between them both this season. Before this we never see them sit down for food and when they get drinks it always seems like one or the other is itching to leave, making the scenes so short and nothing like the Ritz scene in season 1. The restaurant scene comes directly after Nina spells Crowley's relationship out for him and that leads me to think that Crowley getting a table at a restaurant, buying wine and waiting for Aziraphale was not all just so he could complain about Gabriel but was in fact so they could sit and talk like they did in season 1. He goes through the effort of making a scenario like how they used to be and when he finally gets Aziraphale to come to him and ask if he wanted a drink Aziraphales response is 'I'm working' and 'why didn't you just wait in the bookshop'. its's the equivalent of you planning a date and your partner saying you shouldn't have bothered. After rejection Crowley defers the conversation by lying saying that the reason he sat at the restaurant was because of Gabriel in the bookshop when he previously spent an entire day in there with him alone with Aziraphale all the way in Edinburgh. In reality the restaurant is the most obvious of Crowleys attempts to recreate how they were together in season 1 and its an example of Aziraphale completely discouraging his efforts ,weather he means too or not. I like to relate this to Tolerate It by Taylor Swift, Crowley puts the effort in to try and get him and Aziraphale together but Aziraphale is so blinded by the mystery with Gabriel, The Ball and getting Maggie and Nina together that he ends up barely tolerating Crowley and his efforts resulting in Crowley literally following Aziraphale around like a lost disaster puppy the entire episode. He's so codependant on Aziraphale its unreal, he folds to anything Aziraphale asks and says even if it puts him in danger he takes any form of attention he can get from him. Where in season 1 they would go to the Ritz in the clothes they always wear in season 2 Aziraphale asks him to go to the Pub and Crowley puts the effort in to wear a whole new outfit involving a turtleneck something we have never seen him wear before to dress up for a presumed date to somewhere they never go together but when the date actually happens its made clear to Crowley that Aziraphale only wanted to talk about Nina and Maggie. Don't get it wrong Aziraphale has no clue he's doing this, he had lost his job giving him nothing to do and suddenly there's a new mystery and a romance he can make like one of the books he likes so he gets so caught up in it he just doesn't realize what he's doing but we see it build up throughout the entire season. We see Crowley slowly realize Aziraphale is growing distant. make efforts to get back to how it was, think everything could be perfect at the ball only to see Aziraphale want to leave everything they have made together in favor of heaven the place that threw Crowley out and more importantly tried to kill Aziraphale previously. The kiss at the end was a desperate last attempt to get Aziraphale to stay, one final in your face way of getting him to realize what they have together and to fight for it, not for heaven and yet Aziraphale is so religiously traumatised that even though he now knows clearly how Crowley feels he just can't say no to Heaven. Crowley was always going to confess first since he has been trying to get close to Aziraphale all season and Aziraphale was always going to go back to heaven because he loves his work, he loves doing good and he does love God. Him saying ' nothing lasts forever' meant ' Our lives on Earth don't last forever, I would give up my entire bookshop and the life here in order to be with you' but Crowley saw that as 'we don't last forever'. Aziraphale saw Crowleys confession as fuel to fix heaven, to make it a place Crowley would want to be the issue is Crowley doesn't want heaven he wants Aziraphale and the misscommunication between them both has caused the events of the last 10 minutes. It was so foreshadowed but we all were like Crowley. So happy whenever anything romantic happened that we didn't see the cracks in what was there. This season they were the closest they have ever been and somehow the furthest apart at the same time and we only realized it upon rewatch. I think the fandom went through the stages of grief like Crowley does once Aziraphale goes. denial at him actually leaving, Angry at him when he did leave, grieving over what was lost, barganing to get him back and eventually accepting that he's gone knowing that it was so clearly going to happen after rewatching/reliving everything that happened between the two.
I think you demonstrate a lot of insight into their relationship here. There was a fair amount of foreshadowing, with A mostly asking things of C and C giving in and doing what A wants. A is not 100 percent focused on their relationship as C is. He loves it and enjoys it, but can't shake his innate belief that his duty and purpose for being is to help humans and earth. All his life, this is what he was taught would give him worth and purpose. C has been rejected by heaven, so has no similar illusions that his help would be allowed or accepted. Poor communication is, I think, the major reason for most of their disagreement and misunderstandings in the end. Notice that Crowley, for all the effort he put forth to "confess" to A, still does not actually say he loves Aziraphale or go into what their life together might be like. He also does not calmly explain to A why he is rejecting heaven, just that they're "too good" for it. And A never tells C why he thinks them going to heaven is a good thing, or even asks if this is what C wants. They do not listen to each other, either, or hear each other out. Once each of them hears the other's main point, they start shaking their heads and stop listening; they're each still too egotistical and concentrating on their own words to hear the other's. One point I can't say I agree with is that Aziraphale loves heaven or his work. He loves God, yes, but he has come to realize how the heavenly plans and bureaucracy is corrupt. He wants to make heaven better, and feels it would be selfish of him to help only himself by staying with Crowley.
I literally hate when fandoms come after a writer or a charcater for having something sad/problematic happen in the story. Like honey...... it's called stakes. Do you just want all your characters to always get along and have no conflict forever? Jesus christ
I'm keeping myself alive knowing that 1) this is not the end 2) aziraphale WILL come back 3) while neil gaiman spends years writing and filming a season, it takes me so very little to imagine how they meet again back on Earth. Imagine the possibilities! How long do they spend apart? How does Crowley survive loneliness? Does he still go to the bookshop? How will Aziraphale pop back into his life? What would Crowley's reaction look like? Does he even accept an apology?

I really like that because of how it was written, that ending can mean so many things. Like we don’t know 100% what the characters were thinking. We have the pieces to the puzzle but we have no idea what the final picture is supposed to look like.
I loved this season with my whole heart, and I REALLY don't get why people are getting so upset. I don't think it could've ended any other way, since Neil already said that it's the calm before the storm. The ending is a perfect setup for a third installment and, as you said, could have so many different meanings
@@bdeiissosh I feel like people are losing touch a little with a couple of things - that we can find comfort in art, but art doesn't *owe* us comfort, and also that a storyteller's obligation is first and foremost to the story. Fortunately I think the fandom is getting over its tantrum, and the creative team are all kind and wise enough to understand that the reaction was largely borne out of the fandom's passion for what they've so lovingly created.
@@bdeiissoshi can't talk about the whole fandom, but personally the ending did emotionally destroy me. but because i was upset doesn't mean i thought it was a bad ending; the more time passes the more i realise how much more invested it got me compared to a s1 type ending *because* it made me feel so strongly. so yea i reckon just because the fandom's got a strong reaction and externalise it loudly doesn't mean it's on the whole denigrating the ending. it's good but it's still going to hurt.
@joy7367 Yeah, the way it ended destroyed me emotionally, too. I just think it was very rude of people to start going at Neil the way they did. Very heartbreaking ending, but the Neil hate was so uncalled for. LIKE HE'S GONNA MAKE MORE, JUST BE PATIENT PEOPLE (I know it's very hard to be patient when shows like this mean so much to people, myself included, so just know that I understand the impatience for a season 3)
At 9:10, I want to point out that Aziraphale didn’t originally want to go back to Heaven when Metatron told him he could. It was the moment Metatron offered him to have Crowley be his right hand man that got Aziraphale to reconsider again. In my opinion of what happened in that scene following Aziraphale accepting Metatron’s offer, Aziraphale started thinking “What if I could make Heaven more like Our Side?”, and that’s why he was so desperate in trying to get Crowley to come with him. Ironically enough, Aziraphale wanting to go back to Heaven to fix it was out of love for the relationship that he and Crowley have, because “fixing Heaven” means making a better, more peaceful place for the two of them to exist. But to Crowley, he interprets this as Aziraphale choosing his abuser over their love (and he’s not incorrect in that belief but we’ll get to that in a little bit). What Crowley doesn’t notice is that, in a cruel and ironic twist of fate, Aziraphale IS actually choosing their love, but he keeps holding onto the idea of Heaven because it aligns with his innate desire to do good. So in order to mend the two (sort of like cognitive dissonance), he wants to replicate their love on Earth in Heaven in hopes that it will finally bring peace to not only their forbidden relationship, but also to all of Heaven itself. Aziraphale’s logic makes sense here when you think of it as “hitting two bird with one stone”, but it’s just painful because he doesn’t realize he’s being manipulated by Metatron who gives him the false sense of choice. Metatron and Heaven 100% represent an abuser and an abusive household in my mind, and Aziraphale represents the victim that is torn between the unconditional love and freedom he feels when he’s with Crowley and the heavy burden of guilt he feels running away from a house like Heaven. We all say ‘that’ scene is when Crowley gets rejected by Aziraphale, but in Aziraphale’s mind, it’s him being rejected by Crowley. It’s why Aziraphale says “I forgive you” to Crowley after the kiss, because Aziraphale feels like he’s been wronged when he literally just admitted to Crowley “I’m choosing OUR love to make Heaven a better place, because I believe in the good will of Heaven, and good will is the core of what I am” and got rejected for it. Both Crowley and Aziraphale are laying themselves the barest they’ve ever been in the series, but in the end, they both reject each other because they both misunderstood the other so. terribly. hard. And that’s why it’s so terribly painful to watch. The best thing for the both of them to do is to actually have The Talk they’ve been avoiding for so many years, and honestly I don’t blame them, because imagine trying to unravel a millennia of abuse and the subconscious coping mechanisms and behaviorisms that came with it to the one you love the most.
Give me coffe or give me death- their choice is so predictable - Metatron before offering Aziraphale a metaphorical and literal coffee... Did he have any REAL choice i wonder? In any case, Aziraphale REALLY NEEDS an arc where he FINALLY deals with his Heaven related ISSUES for good. Dealing with that toxic relationship before he can fully commit elsewhere.
I get that people were upset but calling a season badly written because the ending upsetted you is just... ludicrous? Aziraphale is just dripping with religious trauma, that's arguably the biggest thing he as a character has to overcome. It's frustrating but it makes sense that he acted the way he did in the final moments of the season.
For me it was like he hesitated much but when Mettatron said about the second coming, Azira couldn't possibly back up because it was just like in s1 when he tried to fix things with angels' help (spoiler: he's still delusional but he got power (sort of (we'll see)))
I think we should be grateful that Neil actually has given us everything we wanted. Because after decades of queerbating this show is truly a blessing and there is so much representation. I‘m glad he made this incredible series and I‘m excited for s3 because I know they will have a happy ending. This show means so much to me, because it’s like a light at the end of the tunnel when you‘re going to rough times. So keep going Neil, we love you!
My mum and I watch good omens together and when we watched the season 2 finale I asked her how she felt after the episode and she turned to me with teary eyes and just flatly said “sad” and then got up to go to bed
The ending was sad, sure, but I'm really excited to see where it goes. I think it was necessary and I don't understand all the hate towards Neil or all the fan theories saying the Azi was drugged.

Big agree! It would completely ruin the entire climax of this season for me. I would rather for them to break up over different views and real conflict than find out that one of them has been drugged and is being controlled and thats the entire reason they argued. Just terrible writing.
@@zemantler YES. Aziraphale thinks that he's finally overcome Crowley's temptations, and he's being rewarded by heaven for it. And of course, in his naive worldview Heaven is always on the right side, because they're heaven! There's a reason he just keeps looking more and more smug during that end credits scene. It might break my heart in the short term, but I am SO looking forward to what Neil and Sir Pterry had in mind for a sequel to the original story!

@@sanzoskitten Right towards the end though, literally the last second before the fade away the smile looks really really genuine but my theory is actually that that's where he's come to the conclusion that Crowley kissed him because he *meant it* instead of as a way to keep him on earth (but that might just be shipper goggles and it's actually bc Aziraphale thinks he's found a solution or something similar). Aziraphale's planning during the elevator ride, yes, but he's also processing that the Metatron wants him to direct the second coming which he literally only found out the moment before he stepped into the elevator and it wrecked him. He doesn't want the world to end, after all. That's what I think his facial journey conveys and it also explains why he tries to school his features while being there with the Metatron. And yes, there are several forced smiles as a part of that. But that last one? Looked pretty genuine and unsuppressable to me.

Even though I was COMPLETELY DEVASTATED by the end - I don't think I ever felt such emotional shock before, I couldn't function for 2 days and I'm sensitive still -, in terms of story, it is simply a masterpiece and I admire Gaiman so fucking much for managing such a touching scene, he's a master and I'm sad he's getting hate for his godlike writing skills. Hope the fandoms calm down and we can all wait patiently (hopefully not for too long) for S3 :')

On the level of denial I would love to include how the fandom as a whole has collectively chosen to ignore that the last 10 minutes of the series even existed. And also I loved the kiss scene, it was just that kind of kiss from a love that hurts and it's so tragic but beautiful at the same time, idk
Aziraphale is terrified, and of course anyone would be. Heaven tried to incinerate him, he's been constantly threatened. He fell in love with Crowley and that constant anxiety of someone finding out. And when he gets the opportunity to have a position of power and better yet get Crowley to become an angel like he remembers when he falls in love, of course he would think they would be happy together. And Crowley knows they're at much higher risk being up there than just doing their own thing. Both characters have pretty solid reasons as to why they acted the way they did.

I feel like Crowely gave Azi choice, just like Heavan gives human choice. Azi talks about how important choice is. Azi getting on the elevator is completely in his character. I hated it, but it is what he would do. Remember, Azi always has a plan, he lets Crowley save him. I think we will see this come into play in season 3. Until then i will keep watching it over and over and watching endless edits.
god, i didnt even know people were actually upset with the ending. i was hurt and i was THRILLED. Not only was Neil Gaiman dedicated to cementing that relationship with such a human action, one that can’t be misconstrued in any way to be anything OTHER than romantic; He was strong enough to pull it all away when we got it. And it wasn’t pointless, it wasn’t mindless viciousness-there really was no other way that could have gone. We ended season one on a high note-nowhere to go but down. The only thing with any sort of variation was how it would be executed, and Neil Gaiman, and David Tennant, and Michael Sheen, delivered in such a phenomenal way. Every action and decision is not only in character, it’s just about the rawest, most true and most important parts of each character. Think about it. If every season ended in a positive way, all the stakes seem null and void. People would lose interest. *I* would lose interest. And if you need something to go wrong, you may as well go for the most gut wrenching thing you have in your inventory.
As a little sadist in my own writing, I painfully enjoyed this "ending"- which is, in fact, the overture to a third season which we hopefully have the pleasure to watch the next years (please don't keep us waiting 4 more, that'd be 2027 😭). Seriously, I just don't get how people could actually hate on Neil Gaiman or Michael Sheen. Seriously, what the heck? In one comment, I read that Aziraphale's the "true villain" of the story, what weird kind of substances people have to take to actually think that way? Of course he hurt Crowley, but that was not his intention. He just wanted to get him back to heaven and hoped that he'd be the happy guy he used to be when they first met. He doesn't see why Crowley refuses his offer, because for Azira, it's still the simple "heaven=good/hell=bad" thing. Which was extremely frustrating to watch for me as well, of course. But I don't hate Gaiman or Sheen for it, because that's an extremely strong element to create tension and even despair between two characters. The way Crowley puts his glasses on after Azira tells him that "nothing lasts forever" is basically a way to show how he puts his guard up, that he only left down whenever these two were together. Fortunately, I found a lot of fan videos here on CZcams and the comment section was mostly enlightening. So much love and hope that our favourite angel-demonic couple will find together again, and I'm sure they WILL. Neil Gaiman mentioned that this season had to happen this way to build up the setting for season 3, a story which he had created together with Terry Pratchett before the latter died in 2015. So whenever people say that "this is not Good Omens"- you are wrong and need to do the apology dance! Just like Azira will have to do- or in his case, it will have to be an entire musical for Crowley! 😂
I watched it with my mum, we knew Crowly liked the angel (it was pretty obvious). So we kinda expected it, but we also discussed that Aziraphale actually never had time to understand his feelings for Crowley. This season was Crowly understanding his feelings but Airzaphale clearly didn't have a lot of time to do that. I hope next season is going to be him actually realising that.
I felt so sad after the ending of s2 but I am comforted atleast a little bit by the fact that it's not the end of Good Omens as a whole and also atleast I have Muriel and Saraqael (they're my favorite s2 characters and i absolutely adore both of them with every fiber of my corporation) ETA for the "no straight couples" comment: Job and Sitis are a straight couple but they're like the only one iirc

I had a blaze of anger/disappointment the first ~2 hours after I saw s2 and was in a bit of a daze the next 2-3 days. I'm a lot calmer now and can appreciate what Neil (and everyone else involved) has gifted us with, because he was never obligated to continue the story at all. Also, like so many people have pointed out, this isn't the end of the story, at all, and I have trust in what he has planned. I truly hope the strike is resolved faster (in favour of the writers and actors, ofc), so that the production on s3 could start asap if they renew it. What I'm really worried about, though, is the people sending him literal death threats (I saw a post on Tumblr that had @ him, completely unhinged) and whether that might not make him want to stop engaging with the fans as he has been. People need to realize that just because they can tell someone something on their mind, it doesn't mean they should.

And again, people doing that type of shit might put Neil off of interacting with the fandom like he has been and that would suck for all of us.
I'm actually not sad about the ending at all. A good ending may mean the end of the series, but now they have to do a third season. I am now even more excited when they meet again.

I’d binged watched six season of Lucifer last year, I’m used to bummer endings being cliffhangers. I wasn’t that bad with the ending. Honestly I just hope we do get a third season to wrap up the story.

I'm so glad someone said it. The coffee theory is to explain away character development which already makes sense on it's own. I think "Give Me Coffee or Give Me Death" is symbolic but the drink itself is just a drink
What season 2 did was have us eager for season 3 and we'll have a Canon version of how Aziraphale and Crowley will carve their relationship when the big avocado passes. We know that their ship is Canon and that a current obstacle is in the way, but they've overcome so much worse. And it's going to be nice to have the Canon reveal this because the majority of fanfic is just them eventually getting married, domestic life fluff and their sex lives..... It's going to be nice to see them actually fully develop their relationship before they finally settle down together
19:14 I RELATE TO THIS SO HARD. Back before the season came out, I started to wonder how I was going to go back to normal after finishing season 2, and it's been weird. Like, I know I'll probably find something new to obsess over within the time between seasons, but a part of me just feels so empty without the excitement of waiting for new pictures or small bits of scenes to be posted. :(
My coping mechanism: listening to (I mean I have this song in my head all the time) Everyday and watching random clips on yt. I also try to force my brother to watch it. And of course, crying. My partner said I have a toxic relationship w this show. I accept it. 😢😅

Honestly, coming into the fandom after finishing season 2 was so baffling to me because the ending was my *favourite* part. Waiting out everyone's fix-it fic/grieving era because I really just want to think about where the characters will go from here!
This season was a lot "smaller" and more self-contained than season 1. I mean, it's literally the Apocalypse vs one Archangel's love life. The two can't compare 😂 so I can understand if some people didn't like it as much because they expected more action and a more intricate plot (if they trash the whole season simply for the ending, THAT I cannot understand...). But I really, really liked it. I like more self-contained stories where I can focus on the characters' interactions rather than keep track of several plot lines/charcacters' motives/lines etc. This was a fun season that I could just enjoy without needing to take notes until the very end, when Gabriel's motives for leaving Heaven were revealed and Metatron showed up. If 3 seasons of Good Omens were an entire book trilogy, I'd say that season 2 definitely suffers with the "middle book syndrome" aka not much happens plot-wise, because the main goal is to set up the final installment. If reading such book might be boring and frustrating, watching this season was a completely different experience: it was fun an lighthearted (until it wasn't lol). And it makes sense for it to be. We escaped Apocalypse in season 1, imagine how repetitive it would've been if season 2 were about the same thing. Season 2 was a bit of a breather before the final season, when shit will go down. It's the calm before the storm, so to speak. I see Aziraphale as a victim of religious trauma and/or of an abusive relationship. It doesn't matter how many times people help you open your eyes about the entire situation: if you get the chance to go back, you will. It's a vicious cycle. After Heaven wanted to destroy Job's children, after the Flood, after Aziraphale preached that Elspeth was LUCKY to be poor only to be confronted with her misery and desperation... he still told Crowley "You (demons) are the bad guys!" as soon as he got the chance to be in Heaven again. I wasn't surprised at all by his regression, it was to be expected. We also known that Crowley was a powerful angel (he created entire galaxies and can access top secret documents in Heaven) who fell because of "asking a few questions". Of course he's incredibly bitter towards and wary of Heaven. He went from having the ability to CREATE wondrous things, and from wanting to show humans his creations for them to enjoy... to nothing. To being expected to TORMENT humans. All because god is a petty, vindictive tyrant that can't stand criticism or even simple curiosity. Aziraphale on the other hand, was a lower ranking angel (higher than Muriel, but nowhere near Crowley). He was tasked with guarding the gate of Eden and with stopping demons from hurting humans aka he was an enforcer of angelic bureaucracy on Earth, but had no decision-making power of his own. The angels with actual power stay in Heaven, they do not concern themselves with humans, do not intervene, they just make sure that the status quo is respected. And after thousands of years dealing with angelic bureaucracy and starting to feel affection for the humans, for the first time ever Aziraphale believes he has the power to change things. Do I think he'll succeed? No. Not unless god dies. Literally, I see no way they will ever change their mind. So unless God is removed from the picture entirely, I doubt things will ever change in Heaven. And Aziraphale needs to learn that the hard way.
i think the ending was perfect primarily because it sets aziraphale in a great position to resolve his character arc. like - in comparison to crowley, who is well aware of both heaven and hell's toxicity, aziraphale is pretty much clinging to any olive branch heaven extends towards him. i mean i'd absolutely go back too in his situation considering he has been walking on eggshells for six thousand years, and the fact that he's given an opportunity to change everything he was scared of makes so much sense. also loved the video :D ur whole vibe and the way it was formatted was very nice to watch
I felt exactly like you about the show and the fandom. I think that last kiss is the kiss we don't deserve, I was so happy to see them so physically near for once, but they were really miserable. To create value, drama, and weight for the story and the characters... well, it was perfect. But in next season, I hope to see the most fu*kingly tender kiss in all cinema history. And maybe the two of them enter a bedroom 😂
The end of episode 6 was rough but it was also my favourite scene of season 2. The actors did such a good job, it was a great scene even if it was upsetting. I definitely agree that this had to happen, Aziraphale needs to finally let go of the need for heaven’s approval. He needs to have this character growth to fully leave heaven behind. That being said, I am absolutely drowning in a puddle of my own tears and will be inconsolable for weeks. 😭
Just one more comment: I am so grateful for this series. It's more than a series to me. It has helped me a lot because I have been on this really horrible deconstruction journey in my life. The show has been thought provoking and I am surprised how it has refreshed my faith and I have kinda gotten permission to question the pilars of my faith in a safe environment. I don't know. I just feel this show is Heaven sent (maybe even literally).
you know having nina and maggie story in this season really says a lot. it's like nina is both azi and crowley. crowley was traumatized by heavens and developed unhealthy coping mechanisms (running away, pretending to not care) and azi is currently in a toxic relationship with heaven. it's like they've been bad to him in the past and he withdrew himself from them but now metatron is saying all those nice things and azi falls back into it. and crowley can't really save him from this one because he himself is hurting on so many levels. i'm sure part of him misses the time when he was an angel but at the same time he doesn't trust heaven (or any authorities at this point) anymore. so even tho he was happy as an angel he was also blinded and sheltered, now after the fall he knows how rotten the up is and that becoming an angel won't really fix anything. he probably just wants a simple life maybe even boring one, he's sick of those games, of god's plans, he's probably sick of being alert all the time (he was very anxious this season) but azi doesn't get that. azi has always been the 'greater good' enthusiast. also he kinda looked like crowley was "jealous" of heaven. azi always talked about heaven, put it on the first place. so maybe crowley is both frustrated and jealous. frustrated because he doesn't know what to do to make azi finally realize that heaven is no better than hell and azi should quit it. and jealous too because crowley wants to be on the first place for azi. like, it's so obvious that he cares about crowley a lot but for some reason he can't let himself go, maybe he doesn't want for crowley to feel lonely anymore, he wants for him to have a purpose again, idk. we've yet to find out about his motivation ig i also feel like they've parted thinking that they're right, stubborn in their opinions. here you can see the lack of communication they have, they've been together for thousands of years yet still can't truly hear each other. and in the end for a bit azi looked like he regrets going but then he wears a certain expression as in "i'll show you that i can do it, that it's possible to change things and then you'll believe me" gosh im so curious what's gonna happen in the 3rd season. im not a crier type myself but i definitely screamed my lugs out from frustration))
It’s been absolutely wild being around for this whole debacle. Such a great video!! I loved your coverage of this. I was SOOO upset with Aziraphale when I watched the scene for the first time but after thinking over it more when I was a lot calmer it makes a ton of sense for him to make the decision that he did. Aziraphale has always been so stubborn in his belief he can fix everything and Metatron pretty much handed him the power to FINALLY do so. Aziraphale has good intentions but he’s SO SO SO NAIVE and forgiving that he can’t tell if he’s being used. I can’t stay mad at the poor guy because I know his heart is in the right place. Seeing people get so genuinely angry at him makes me sad because they’re only seeing it from Crowley’s perspective. Which is understandable! Because to Crowley it sounds like Aziraphale is telling him that what they have together now isn’t enough for him and isn’t worth preserving. I really liked the point you brought up about how when the two get into an argument, Crowley defaults to running away. It wasn’t something I recognized before and I’m gonna look for it again on my S1-2 rewatches. My only real complaint is that I wish the overall season was paced better so this ending didn’t feel like it came out of nowhere ;;;
You're so right, it's important to think about the characters and where they are. Notably I think, Aziraphale didn't *like* that kiss, it took him completely by surprised and he was resistant and tense and even after kinda getting into it a bit he was all tearful and upset afterwards. It wasn't romantic. Crowley waited too long and pushed too hard at the wrong moment. Just like people do in real romances sometimes! It'll be okay!
That ending had me ABSOLUTELY SOBBING and mourning for the next like 5 days. Absolutely ruined my week but in the BEST way possible because I only feel that way because of how much I just love these characters! I procrastinated on watching season 2. I didn’t know what to expect, but if you were to tell me that it would feed into my recent Jane Austen obsession I would have watched it to prove you wrong. I totally agree with what Crowley was doing by tempting Azi. Neil Gaiman was brilliant with what he had and I’m glad it took as long as it did for it. Aziraphale was wrong, but it’s totally in character for him to do and and he’s totally oblivious to how Metatron insulted Crowley. He did so much for heaven and they turned their back on him for asking question and still judge him for doing so. There’s no way they’re giving him any real control to make a difference. Gabriel of all angels leaving it should be the biggest red flag.
I'm still thinking that Aziraphell should apologize with the dance, but I'm totally agree with you that he wants to be with Crowley, and he has some traumatisme and still believes in Heaven but he doesn't understand that Crowley is traumatized too! He was an angel ("a prince of Heaven") and he fell for... whatever the reason, but he can accord his trust again... we've seen it in the show when he opens the file and... you're right, they don't speak to each other. But... I totally understand Crowley. He was ever here for him, he supports him even when he has his own problems. He was upset that Aziraphell doesn't understand that the true problem IS the Heaven... The same Heaven that tried to k!ll his best friend, the one that betrayed the both of them. Crowley is still traumatized even if 6000 years passed and no one can expect him to forgive the Heaven and when Aziraphell asks him to go with him, it was bold but they don't talk so, technically, he cannot know. I hope it will be a third season, and we'll see a proper apology from both of them and a proper talk. (Sorry for the mistakes, English is only my fourth language😅)

I personally really liked the ending of s2. It made sense for their characters and the finale was dramatic. I live for tragic/sad endings and im an angst girlie so it was perfect to me. I do want them tgt for s3 of course, which im 100% sure it will happen eventually. Cant wait for it!
I completely agree with you. I think the people who hold the opinion that Aziraphale was abusive are just the people who kin Crowley too hard to see what's happening from Aziraphale's side. Because this second season breakup literally just the bigger version of the issues that split Crowley and Aziraphale in the first season.

I never once genuinely thought of hating either Neil Gaiman or Aziraphale. Neil Gaiman delivered a delicious dose of pain which of course I jokingly “hate” him for but I am a huge sucker for that stuff. The only thing I am angry about is how long I’ll have to wait for the next season. And Aziraphale has always been afraid of going against heaven as well still somewhat cautiously believing that heaven is good. He genuinely thinks he can change things and I think he believes Metatron wants to do good. The way Metarton shows up sort of paints him as a good guy, he reprimands the angels we are shown to be corrupt bureaucrats and he shows up in person, in a human form, making him more personable. Aziraphale has always been filled with doubts and constantly struggles to decide what route is actually good. And he doesn’t want to just run away because he loves the world and does want to fix things. Him and Crowley ultimately want very similar things but have very different ideas of how to accomplish them. They both want to be together and for Aziraphale that means being in heaven as angels and doing good, for Crowley who knows how corrupt bot heaven and hell are, this means leaving them behind. Same goes for keeping the world safe.

I was watching it with my partner and he fell asleep in the middle of it so when I screamed when the credits rolled, he did not understand and I couldn't tell him what happened. Well I told him that it was so so sad... Very sad ending and with the not knowing when and if it will have a third season...I'm gonna stop before I start crying in despair. You explained the meaning behind the kiss so well - I personally couldn't put into words what it meant but what you said just closed that gap for me. If there is going to be a third season each one of them would be coming out during different stages of my adult life: The first season came out while I was in school, now I am in college and the third one would happen after I have my diploma. I really, REALLY love these characters and can't wait for the strike to be over and Amazon greenlighting this.
the song “daylight” by david kushner is so good omens coded. like tell me these lyrics aren’t aziraphale and crowley!! “the lust is a burden we both share, two sinners can’t atone from a lone prayer. souls tied, intertwined by pride and guilt” pride being aziraphale, he goes up the elevator obviously having lots of pride in himself for becoming supreme archangel but also pride because he’s too proud but also arrogant to see that crowley wouldn’t want to go to heaven. i mean to us it’s obvious why he wouldn’t want to because why would he when he was cast out from there..? guilt is crowley. he had the opportunity to confess to aziraphale before when they had a small chance at happiness.. “i know i cant resist it” literally explains itself like you saw the way crowley lunged into that kiss. also i physically cannot see them not reuniting because they always do!! “oh i love it and i hate it at the same time, you and i drink the poison from the same vine” obviously they would love it and hate it because they clearly have feelings for each other but keep on getting hurt. and the poison is that they will both always be motivated by temptation and lust, we know this because aziraphale was tempted so often by crowley. “can you spare any mercy that you might find if im down on my knees again? deep down, way down, lord, i try” obviously they are both traitors and aziraphale would have to do things to redeem himself for the years he spent fraternising with the enemy. aziraphale always tries to do the right thing as well although he does see everything as black and white. meanwhile crowley is always kind even without wanting to be. he was cast out because he asked too many questions about the order of things and right and wrong but he still clearly tries to do what is best for everyone. ok so i probably read into stuff like this way too much but this show is basically an obsession. like i need to put my thoughts into something because i need another season right now and obviously i like to make myself cry :)
I didn't grief. I wasn't expecting the finally (specially the kiss) when I started the show, but when Metraton came, I knew what will happened. I agree that their decisions and the end WAS in character. For everyone. I would have written the end exactly the same way (probably without kiss, tho, I thought it would never happened because the people in charge would never agree with it and I'm glad I was wrong because it was superbe), and I know they'll be back together at the end of season 3. It can't be another way, it's just in character. They needed it to be able to be an healthy couple. And the world need it too ! If they aren't around, who will save the world from destruction ? They both have very good points, and Aziraphale needs to be in charge... but not to fix heaven, as he thinks, but to destroy it ! And destroy hell. And God needs someone to tells them "STOP you fuckin' idiot !!". When he was an angel, Crowley believed God needed someone to tell God that the plan was a BAD idea. And he is right, but was not powerful enough / in the right position to make it happended. With his new position, Aziraphale will be able to see how Paradise, God, Hell and Satan are fuck*d up and need to be... well, need to wake up ! Their actions have freakin' consequences ! When Aziraphale will not have any illusions anymore, he will come back to Crowley, apologies and they will come up with a plan to destitute God, destroy Hell and Paradise, and the universe will FINALLY be saved from any kind of Armagedon. Anyway, just to say I was kinda expecting all of this while watching more and more episodes. It makes sense, so no grief. It was an excellent finally. Also, I agree that Aziraphale is an idiot. Well, I mean he is naive and have too much love and hope, wich make him do and believe stupid things. He is desillusional, and Croley knows it. But he cant' bring himself to destroy the hopes of his angel and... let him to mistakes. Somehow, I think he knows he mustn't be the one who open the eyes of Aziraphale. Aziraphale needs to do it by himself. If Crowley was the one opening his eyes, he would destroy Aziraphale and he can't do it. I don't think Aziraphale would forgive him if he did. He warned him, and that's all he can do. It's the same when you see and woman being beaten by her husband : you can warn her, give her solutions, explain her that she is not in fault and her husband is toxic... but you cant' force her to leave her husband. That would mean kidnapping her and shut her down from a husband who probably already shuted her down from all her friends and familly (I lived it, I know how powerless we can be in those situations... we just can't do anything to help). I understand why people are in denial, and grieving, and mad... that's just mean how much the show was well written. Because that's how the characters feel !! And it's beautiful(ly written), and heart breaking, and feels so real ! And season 3 will be WORST. Be prepare to an even worst mental break down, but with a sweet end. I have very high expectations for seaon 3 ^^
I love this show, had no idea there were so many fans with such passion. The chemistry between the angel and demon is so real, the actors in real life also have chemistry. They are real friends and so much of that shows on screen. That’s what makes it so good. Season 3 must happen!

I heard a theory that Crowley stopped time during the kiss and they actually have a plan/ swap bodies when they pull apart. Supposedly the clock in the background moves ahead 15 minutes, but I took screenshots of the clock and I really don't see it. I think it's another case of grasping at straws because I definitely agree that they are not mature enough in their relationship to have a conversation about it. I think that their reactions are genuine to the characters, and I think it's a sign of wonderful writing that we all feel broken and watching it. I will definitely be watching both seasons again to help give it the attention it deserves
16:10 That's exactly what I've been doing. Every night, right when going to bed, I let Good Omens play in the background. It is both a comfort and a way of informing Prime that I love this show. Hell, I even created a playlist of songs that remind me of AziraCrow (ineffable husbands); which I also play when doing any sort of work.
I needed this therapy ! The only way I can deal with the ending is to keep the thought "If you love something set it free". Crowley loves Aziraphale so much he had to let him go , let him find out for himself how toxic Heaven really is. The shot of Crowley standing by the car watching Aziraphale leave made me feel like someone was ripping my heart out of my chest and letting an elephant jump up and down on it. You want to save them both but they have to "save" themselves. Clearly my screaming "go to Alpha Centauri with Crowley " was not heard !! lol Ciao ! ( you are awesome ! )
I don't think he was smiling and happy in the elevator. It looks very anxious, uncomfortable, and heartbroken. And that he was contemplating the huge task ahead of him and the sacrifice he just had to make. He thinks he's setting himself up as best he can in order to save the universe

It's terrible, but I try to remember that I'd rather for it to drop in 4 year than wait a year and then find out that it sucks. We waited long for this one and it didn't disappoint, so I trust Neil that the final season will be just as good as the previous two if he takes his time with it! The way I totally relate to GO2 becoming part of everyday lifestyle excitement and now we're just like 0.0, day and night. When I first watched it on the first day I won’t lie I felt a little and I mean LITTLE mad at Aziraphale, but I can’t really hate him bc I love him with all my heart. But the next day, the second time watching I really paid attention and I started understanding him more, I understood both of them. Why Crowley got upset and why Aziraphale went to heaven. Aziraphale also looked back like 4 times for Crowley before going to heaven, and he tried making up excuses to not go to heaven until Metatron mentioned he could bring Crowley with him. I also do believe Aziraphale has religious trauma. I tried explaining to my friend and she just got mad at me and still hates aziraphale. 😭
The one thing I miss in season 2 of Good Omens is the hilarious dialogue from the narrator from time to time that they had in Good Omens season 1. Such a good series though. Can't wait for season 3. Both Sheen and Tennant are amazing together.

okay i need to correct you on the coffee theory because your interpretation of it is so … different than how i interpreted it The almond thing, IN MY OPINION, is an allegory for poison, not LITERALLY poison. Cyanide has been said to taste like bitter almonds, and so sometimes in literature, cyanide/poison in general is associated with almonds. *I don’t think that The Metatron LITERALLY PUT CYANIDE IN HIS COFFEE,* however I do think that this parallel is there for a reason, implying that Aziraphale is being tampered with in some way, that the coffee is being used as a manipulation tactic. Also the coffee must be significant in some way because it appears during this season’s intro MULTIPLE different times. Also, the miracle sound isn’t when Aziraphale *drinks* the coffee, it’s when The Metatron *hands the coffee over.* I hear it perfectly fine (I am not delusional I promise 💀) edit: i went back to episode 6 for a timestamp on the miracle noise, it happens at about 35:48 !!
Hi! I think the issue here is that there are many versions of the coffee theory out there, so while you may interpret it as cyanide, I've seen lots of other versions that say it's the almonds that are making Aziraphale holier (is this even a word). I understand what you mean, I actually kind of like that idea- The coffee serving as a poison for Aziraphale, poisoning his current views, relationship and life. I do think the coffee is important, because its Metatron showing him basic kindness, which manipulates Aziraphale into thinking that he may be not be as bad as the rest of heaven. My friend said that it parallels apple from Eden, which i completely agree with. Metatron is tempting him, and Aziraphale mirrors Eve in some way- he hesitates at first, but eventually sees no harm in taking the coffee, which eventually leads him to betraying Crowley- just as Eve betrayed God. So yes, while I do think it's used as a manipulation tactic, I don't think it was anything more than just mind games on Metatrons side. You don't have to believe it, it's just food for thoughts :) I apologize for the miracle sound tho, I dont know why i was so sure that it should play when he drinks it so that was my fault. Although, I do think thats just a car noise from the outside. If you rewatch the entire bookshop scene, even when Gabriel and Beelzebub are there, there are lot of noises coming from outside, because the bookshop is placed on a really busy street in Soho. So I don't think it's a miracle sound, I just think it was very unfortunate sound mixing in post production. Of course, everything is up for interpretation, this is just my view on it. Take care!
Coffee appears in the intro because of Nina’s coffee shop. There’s coffee throughout the series. Metraton getting coffee for Aziraphale doesn’t serve a purpose except for character introduction. He shows up in the coffeehouse and we’re like “ whoa he’s here ? He’s not just a big talking head? What an ominous and mysterious character” he talks to Nina about human beings and their choices and he seems much more intelligent than the other angels , so he’s a bit scary. He gives Aziraphale a coffee because he’s just trying to seem like a cool dad, not like a regular dad - he’s hip with the human stuff, he’s been earthside. The coffee itself is completely mundane
Aziraphale was not happy. Their story is sad because we all know that they want to be together but knowing Aziraphale, he is an angel who wants to do good and make a difference. It's in his nature. And Crowley doesn't want to go back to heaven because he doesn't want to be limited and constricted. That's why their story is tragic. And I think Metatron knows that and intentionally told Aziraphale to tell Crowley and Metatron knows that Crowley will not join Heaven and that Aziraphale will accept his offer. He knows that it will cause their breakup/separation.
The following season I imagined as if it were a conversation, the conversion of 6000 years of friendship and guarded feelings. I get this idea especially from the question raised in season two: they've known each other for a long time, but they've never been able to talk properly and truthfully, no matter what the "sides" might think or do to them. Starting with the two of them sitting at the Rits or the bookshop or some special place to them and talking about what happened after the Season 2 finale. Bringing us what happened in between and comparing it to flashbacks from the past (which are some of the fan favorite scenes). Then at the end of all this conversation (that is, at the end of season 3) they reconcile with their traumas and can move on together (showing us some moments of course). But anyway, let's wait and see what Neil and Prime will give us
I don't know what social media you use, but I've been with the fandom all this time since they dropped S2 and my experience is just lovely! We've all been creating theories, sending them to each other along with heartrending fanart and edits! I don't know what corners of the internet you're in, but I've had the wonderful experience of those 2 weeks of discussing with other fans possible interpretations and trying to understand these characters we all love so much! just wanted to say that I very much snorted at the edit at 4:09 love the casual humour. And you pretty much articulated all my thoughts in a great compact but also extensive way and it´s nice knowing that many people feel the same way. I personally loved season 2 but I can understand criticism (for example regarding the plot). However, I was astonished about the hate esp. Neil Gaiman was getting (which was the worst given that he´s real lol). People act like they never ever heard the word nuance in their lives and acted like the whole show was supposed to specifically cater to their personal needs
It's particularly awful behaviour given how accepting and accommodating Neil (and Michael and David as well) have always been towards fandom/ fan behaviours. Fanfiction, shipping, the whole shebang. It's like people really thought they were just there to do fan service as opposed to creating an artistic work.

I agree that we should not hate Aziraphale.Yes when we saw Crowley was so sad and Aziraphale smiling at the end that made us mad. But like you said (so well) I can understand Azi’s motives. And yes he wanted be together with Crowley in heaven. And yes Azi loves heaven, God and believes that he can fix it but yes heaven do not want fixed and they will use Azi. I wish Crowley would say more about what he saw. However i don’t think that would change Azi’s decision. Because Azi was euphoric about everything and didn’t understand why Crowley didn’t want to be an angel again. They need to talk more this stuff .. However i can’t help but feels so sad for Crowley. Because thousands of years even they knew they were partners in crime, and lovers they never spoke the words loudly. Because they are angel and demon and the rules bla bla bla. So thanks to lesbian lovers Crowley found the courage to speak their feelings finally. But it was still hardest thing to do for Crowley i believe . I mean he’s cracking voice and crying.. He was most truthful at that moment in his existence. And then his love Azi talked about heaven whrere abondoned him once. I mean its so depressing when i think Crowley’s situation. And i am also sad for Azi because he will find out what heaven is really about and that would be a devastation for him.
My thoughts on Aziraphale:
I see him as a child of abuse. Heaven is this abusive household that threatens him all the time and makes him do things, he thinks are wrong and then gaslights him into thinking it is right because it's the will of God. And yeah, as a person with a shit load of religious trauma, I know how fucking hard it is to break out of that system. So naturally he couldn't say no to heaven. And Crowley is the perfect depiction of someone who has left a religious cult and he carries his own kind of religious trauma (like he can't stand being in any way associated with heaven or called a good person).
So Aziraphale will eventually realise that he can't chose heaven and still have his own morals and he will probably crush under the weight of his internal moral struggle. And when that happens, he and Crowley need to sit down for a cup of tea and talk about it. At length. And then help eachother to heal.

@@zemantler As someone who first read Good Omens before Amazon "Prime" even existed (and had the amazing opportunity to do so on a copy signed by Gaiman himself), I can certainly say that I have been living with these characters for a long time.
I think it's important to remember that this project was not just an adaptation, but a love letter, a tribute, and the fulfilment of a final wish by one of his heros and dearest friends.
Gaiman isn't going to do anyone dirty here. This is for the fans, but it never would've been made if it weren't for Terry's last request. It's meant to reflect that dream.
This season, especially the final episode, is absolutely necessary because no relationship is flawless. In this case when the fear of being discovered was removed not only did they have to confront honesty but also learn the difference between codependency and interdependence.
TLDR: other than what you have so well-covered here, my only strong theory about season 3 is that "I Want To Break Free" is going to be featured.

The thing that everyone is glossing over is the literal religious lore in motion in that moment. The Metatron’s whole thing is that his presence turns the worst feelings into happiness. Azi’s eyes in the elevator scene (the windows of the soul) look like he’s about to burst from within, while his smile (the curtains) looks hysterical and out of place. So like… I feel like it wasn’t just him trusting the process, more like he’s fallen into a mental trap straight away

He's not excited! He's scared. He wants to have Crowley with him cause Crowley is his insurance and assurance. When he's with Crowley, he's certain he'll do the right thing. After leaving him, he's not so sure anymore. I think he instantly began to doubt his decision after nightingalegate.
I really hated the fandom those first days. yall are joking now but the Gaiman and Aziraphale hate was intense and I really thought the fandom had regressed into ZERO media literacy. Thankfully everyone has calmed down now, and are now understanding that the story is trying to explore such deep themes about trauma, abuse, but also love.

Wait there was Aziraphale hate?? Like for those first few days I heavily avoided any social media talking about it because I didn't want to be spoiled since I couldn't watch it right away. I knew there was hate for Mr. Gaiman (which is upsetting because why? i really don't understand) but Aziraphale?? I get *the upset that he chose to go with Metatron but he also had his reasons too and while I was extremely sad he didn't choose Crowley, in a way Aziraphale was still thinking of him AND Crowley. Both of them were thinking about what they thought was best for the other without actually talking about it to see if they both agree.

I just want to see Season 3 as soon as possible because we need to sort this mess out. blaming Neil for being a great storyteller is silly. especially since he gave the fandom EXACTLY what we wanted - he gave us the gayest, most remarkable love story and he made us feel deeply for fictional characters. he took our ships and our ideas and our hopes and dreams and he FILMED them. everyone's been saying that they never expected ineffable bureaucracy or the kiss! how could we complain after all this?

kneejerk reaction a lot of the fandom had (myself included) was to be convinced that aziraphale was in the wrong, crowley was in the right, and aziraphale should run back and beg for forgiveness. but like, think about it. part of crowley's whole dramatic confession was trying to convince aziraphale to run away together before the next big apocalypse comes to earth. this is not the first time he's asked this of aziraphale, and it's not the first time aziraphale has said no. he can't leave humanity. he can't run away with crowley (no matter how much he might like the idea of it) and just abandon earth to heaven's judgment. which is directly in opposition to crowley's flight instinct. crowley is a good person, but when the going gets tough he wants to pack his shit and run (see both their breakups in season 1, and the argument they have about gabriel in s2e1).
aziraphale has just been presented with the opportunity to be part of heaven's decision making process. the opportunity to have the most power over heaven that an angel could ever hope to have. think of how appealing that would be. being able to protect crowley from heaven and hell, being able to prevent or at least stall the next apocalypse. of course he chose to leave. better crowley be heartbroken than dead.
Yes! I was so surprised when everyone hated on our precious angel - my very first reaction was very much “ has everyone forgotten that the universe is going to shut down in a second?” And Crowley is every bit as much a liar as Aziraphale, he hasn’t cut ties with Hell. He speaks with Shax on a regular basis.
Season 2 to me was very much setting up the mood for season 3. And it is angsty, nobody knows what’s going on and everyone is pointing f*cking fingers. But everyone loves an “angst with a happy ending” tag ❤

my read was that Zira just wanted to protect Earth and make sure that Crowley can continue enjoying his life as he knows it. "better heartbroken than dead: sounds about right.
of course, there is something to be said about Crowley only loving Earth so much because he shares it with Zira... but the angel wouldn't believe that and it wouldn't even occur to him. also, they clearly have different love languages. :D
But isn't it a bit naive of Aziraphale to think that he will really be given an opportunity to interfere with the decision making process in Heaven? No one will trust Aziraphale in Heaven. Other Archangels either don't understand him or openly loathe him. His future subordinates, such as Michael and Urial were battling for Gabriel's post while Gabriel was AWOL, they certainly won't be happy that someone else got the job. It's bad enough for them even without Aziraphale being the one who got the job.
And there are the aspects of questions and power. Gabriel was sucked because he tried to stop another apocalypse. Gabriel! The supreme archangel for millions of years. It didn't stop them to demote him. Crowley was condemned to the boiling sulphur because he asked a few questions. And Crowley wasn't just some lower angel either, given that he could open Gabriel's file Muriel hadn't got an access to. What could possibly make Aziraphale think that he, of all angels, might be able to make a difference, to change the bureaucracy and the thirst for war. The angels still believe in the ineffable plan they know nothing about. Aziraphale just cannot stop it. His prospects seem rather bleak. I personally think that he is set to fall in season 3.
People will never understand that good characters can do bad things.

Yeah. I saw a lot of flashes of anxiousness, pride, pain and anger but not excitement. A few times his expression even seemed to say, "I'll show you!"
The sequence of Aziraphale in the elevator reminded me, strangely, of the end of Pearl. When Mia Goth greets her returning husband with a big smile, vainly trying to hide the trauma behind happiness, but the cracks breaking her wide open. Aziraphale isn't as obvious as Pearl, but anxiety and pain and even regret are quite visible behind his blank smile.

when you delve into the characters themselves, no action was out of character. everything makes sence.
aziraphale is a child or religious trauma, and he feels loyal still to heaven, and doesnt see how crowley doesnt want to be angel, because he was so happy when he was one
crowley has abandonment trauma, he does not trust heaven and he sees the true nature of heaven. he wants to see with aziraphale but he does not want to go back to the people that cast him out for very little reason
"Neil is a writing genius. A cruel one, but skilled nonetheless." This is one of the most astute observations, though I have to say when Neil is truly cruel - it can eviscerate, haunt, and traumatize you for a *very* long time.
What he did here was set the fans down and explained that sometimes two people can love each other very much but being together is not always the best choice at that particular time, and you'll understand more when you're less upset and ready to understand.

If you don't understand Gabriel and Beelzebub, you should probably rewatch the season with the reveal in mind and pay closer attention to the memories. There's nothing that indicates a specific number of meetings - we're shown the most pertinent to the story related to the "clues" via media shorthand to tell us what we need to know.
Have you ever read any Shakespeare? 90% of those characters are depicted as only meeting once. The amount of "love stories/romances" I could list where the two characters fall for each other after merely being in the same proximity for a brief encounter is immense. But Neil did *not* do this. It was earned.
I have a sneaking suspicion that if our main duo ran off together in the finale, you wouldn't be bothered by the G/B plot and outcome in the slightest.
What you're really saying is, "How dare other characters get the fairytale ending when the ones I ship are having a longer and more complex relationship arc!"

Then I remembered that they enjoy food and music, so they can also enjoy kissing. I was expecting Crowley to accept the offer and work for the good of humanity, but what he actually did was even better and more 'Crowley-like'. So no, I have no problem with that part of the ending
Beelzebub and Gabriel may have had more than three meetings, but it doesn't change the fact that it started after the events of the first series. In cosmic terms, that is very less. Aziraphale and Crowley have had a relationship from the beginning of time. Do you not see that they are not in the same class? Also, I don't know why you are bringing Shakespeare into this. Whatever his plays say, we have a gold standard relationship in Good Omens itself: Aziraphale and Crowley.
Edit: I don't ship anyone. I have never shipped anyone in any fandom. I am just not that kind of fan. The most fandom engagement I have ever had is this comment chain with you. My problem is that I feel cheated by the story. All the events of the second series happened because of this 'love story' between Gabriel and Beelzebub, whereas the first series happened as part of a prophesy that has been going on for millennia. The story itself takes place in several centuries with multiple threads. It's all so legendary. In this series, we have the whole story happening because of a 3-year romance. Perhaps this series is like a filler series or a link between the first series and the third one?

It's a classic act 2 of a 3 part comedy. You have to be in that 'how can this possibly work in any way' position to have a truly happy ending. Aziraphale has to lose his trust in his abusive home and walk away from it or he can never truly love Crowley, he'll alway be split. And Crowley has to find out who he is without Aziraphale because he's become Aziraphale's sidekick rather than his own person. I think that's why there's everyone assuming they're partners. No one sees Crowley as being just Crowley, they see him as being part of 'Aziraphale and Crowley'. Like Crowley said, they could always rely on each other. They don't know how to function as autonomous individuals and that's just as toxic in any relationship as being under Heaven/Hell's control. Aziraphale needs to save himself for once and Crowley needs to forgive himself. Neil did say he'd get season 3 to us one way or another even if it's not renewed by Amazon and he promised Terry. I have faith in him.
I'm really glad that you posted this because there are way too many people stuck on things like "but they're so cute together!" or as one person argued (the latter of which I thought was a really weird hang-up) "Crowley and Aziraphale have been together for 6000 years, Gabriel and Beelzebub don't *deserve* to be together [fall in love]"
Firstly, I'm doing a re-watch of S1 - at this very moment - and E1 Aziraphale directly states "I am not going to help you. I'm an angel you are a demon we are hereditary enemies." - This is *after* 6000 years, Crowley saving his neck (literally) and the entire "aww" medley of them meeting repeatedly and making the arrangement regarding "cancelling each other out".
Yes there are touching moments and yes it's clear they have affection for each other *however* that does not mean that they are ideal examples of romance, nor a relationship.
The very fact that in the last episode of s2 a mortal who essentially knows Crowley as "six expressos in a big cup" was able to pin down the fact that they don't truly communicate with each other (after having getting out of a toxic relationship herself) says volumes.
Unfortunately, he only takes away *half* of what they're trying to tell him, which is why things go south so badly when Aziraphale relays his news.

On a personal note: I always sort of saw it the other way around if anyone was a sidekick - but that's probably because I was introduced to the book first far before Amazon ever had an inclination to have a streaming service.
TLDR; while they have a really interesting and engaging dynamic, I find it a bit weird that people look at where they were in season 2 or even when it was only season one and actually think "couples goals" - because, they aren't done baking yet.

You make an excellent point though as well that do not only need to work on their interpersonal relationship, but also on themselves.
As crushing as it was for many fans, the separation is a good opportunity to do that. (Even though Neil writes fantastical stories/characters he's still manages to stay true to certain universal truths) In this case, sometimes what is needed for two people to work out their issues not only with themselves but how to be healthier in their approach and gain perspective *is space.*
While it feels extremely painful, that distance could be exactly what is needed to be more honest with themselves and with each other.
Also Act 2 of a romance, or rom com. Something always separates them at the end of Act 2. I am surprised fans didn't see that coming, and also were so upset, if it was a bland happy ending it would be dull, but also people would have complained about that for sure.
Oooo this really made me think and you brought up points I had not thought of at all!! We know several of Crowley’s basic personality traits; we knows he’s kind, very intelligent, quick-witted, reckless, brave, and definitely very bitter towards Heaven and God. But…he’s almost always him context with Aziraphale; interacting with him, helping him, doing good deeds with him, etc…so much of Crowley’s identity and life is living for Aziraphale. Everything that he does, every good thing, every brave deed (with a few exceptions) are for Aziraphale. With Aziraphale gone (at least temporarily), it will be interesting to see how Crowley reacts and what the hell he does with himself.
On rewatch the ending was SO heavily foreshadowed. I think the first time I noticed it was the scene where Crowley calls Aziraphale over for a glass of wine at the restaurant. I remember everyone thinking that scene was so cute and romantic but it seriously exposed the main issue between them both this season. Before this we never see them sit down for food and when they get drinks it always seems like one or the other is itching to leave, making the scenes so short and nothing like the Ritz scene in season 1. The restaurant scene comes directly after Nina spells Crowley's relationship out for him and that leads me to think that Crowley getting a table at a restaurant, buying wine and waiting for Aziraphale was not all just so he could complain about Gabriel but was in fact so they could sit and talk like they did in season 1. He goes through the effort of making a scenario like how they used to be and when he finally gets Aziraphale to come to him and ask if he wanted a drink Aziraphales response is 'I'm working' and 'why didn't you just wait in the bookshop'. its's the equivalent of you planning a date and your partner saying you shouldn't have bothered. After rejection Crowley defers the conversation by lying saying that the reason he sat at the restaurant was because of Gabriel in the bookshop when he previously spent an entire day in there with him alone with Aziraphale all the way in Edinburgh. In reality the restaurant is the most obvious of Crowleys attempts to recreate how they were together in season 1 and its an example of Aziraphale completely discouraging his efforts ,weather he means too or not. I like to relate this to Tolerate It by Taylor Swift, Crowley puts the effort in to try and get him and Aziraphale together but Aziraphale is so blinded by the mystery with Gabriel, The Ball and getting Maggie and Nina together that he ends up barely tolerating Crowley and his efforts resulting in Crowley literally following Aziraphale around like a lost disaster puppy the entire episode. He's so codependant on Aziraphale its unreal, he folds to anything Aziraphale asks and says even if it puts him in danger he takes any form of attention he can get from him. Where in season 1 they would go to the Ritz in the clothes they always wear in season 2 Aziraphale asks him to go to the Pub and Crowley puts the effort in to wear a whole new outfit involving a turtleneck something we have never seen him wear before to dress up for a presumed date to somewhere they never go together but when the date actually happens its made clear to Crowley that Aziraphale only wanted to talk about Nina and Maggie. Don't get it wrong Aziraphale has no clue he's doing this, he had lost his job giving him nothing to do and suddenly there's a new mystery and a romance he can make like one of the books he likes so he gets so caught up in it he just doesn't realize what he's doing but we see it build up throughout the entire season. We see Crowley slowly realize Aziraphale is growing distant. make efforts to get back to how it was, think everything could be perfect at the ball only to see Aziraphale want to leave everything they have made together in favor of heaven the place that threw Crowley out and more importantly tried to kill Aziraphale previously. The kiss at the end was a desperate last attempt to get Aziraphale to stay, one final in your face way of getting him to realize what they have together and to fight for it, not for heaven and yet Aziraphale is so religiously traumatised that even though he now knows clearly how Crowley feels he just can't say no to Heaven. Crowley was always going to confess first since he has been trying to get close to Aziraphale all season and Aziraphale was always going to go back to heaven because he loves his work, he loves doing good and he does love God. Him saying ' nothing lasts forever' meant ' Our lives on Earth don't last forever, I would give up my entire bookshop and the life here in order to be with you' but Crowley saw that as 'we don't last forever'. Aziraphale saw Crowleys confession as fuel to fix heaven, to make it a place Crowley would want to be the issue is Crowley doesn't want heaven he wants Aziraphale and the misscommunication between them both has caused the events of the last 10 minutes.
It was so foreshadowed but we all were like Crowley. So happy whenever anything romantic happened that we didn't see the cracks in what was there. This season they were the closest they have ever been and somehow the furthest apart at the same time and we only realized it upon rewatch. I think the fandom went through the stages of grief like Crowley does once Aziraphale goes. denial at him actually leaving, Angry at him when he did leave, grieving over what was lost, barganing to get him back and eventually accepting that he's gone knowing that it was so clearly going to happen after rewatching/reliving everything that happened between the two.
I think you demonstrate a lot of insight into their relationship here. There was a fair amount of foreshadowing, with A mostly asking things of C and C giving in and doing what A wants. A is not 100 percent focused on their relationship as C is. He loves it and enjoys it, but can't shake his innate belief that his duty and purpose for being is to help humans and earth. All his life, this is what he was taught would give him worth and purpose. C has been rejected by heaven, so has no similar illusions that his help would be allowed or accepted. Poor communication is, I think, the major reason for most of their disagreement and misunderstandings in the end. Notice that Crowley, for all the effort he put forth to "confess" to A, still does not actually say he loves Aziraphale or go into what their life together might be like. He also does not calmly explain to A why he is rejecting heaven, just that they're "too good" for it. And A never tells C why he thinks them going to heaven is a good thing, or even asks if this is what C wants. They do not listen to each other, either, or hear each other out. Once each of them hears the other's main point, they start shaking their heads and stop listening; they're each still too egotistical and concentrating on their own words to hear the other's. One point I can't say I agree with is that Aziraphale loves heaven or his work. He loves God, yes, but he has come to realize how the heavenly plans and bureaucracy is corrupt. He wants to make heaven better, and feels it would be selfish of him to help only himself by staying with Crowley.

What would Crowley's reaction look like? Does he even accept an apology?

I really like that because of how it was written, that ending can mean so many things. Like we don’t know 100% what the characters were thinking. We have the pieces to the puzzle but we have no idea what the final picture is supposed to look like.

I don't think it could've ended any other way, since Neil already said that it's the calm before the storm. @@bdeiissosh I feel like people are losing touch a little with a couple of things - that we can find comfort in art, but art doesn't *owe* us comfort, and also that a storyteller's obligation is first and foremost to the story.
Fortunately I think the fandom is getting over its tantrum, and the creative team are all kind and wise enough to understand that the reaction was largely borne out of the fandom's passion for what they've so lovingly created.

At 9:10, I want to point out that Aziraphale didn’t originally want to go back to Heaven when Metatron told him he could. It was the moment Metatron offered him to have Crowley be his right hand man that got Aziraphale to reconsider again. In my opinion of what happened in that scene following Aziraphale accepting Metatron’s offer, Aziraphale started thinking “What if I could make Heaven more like Our Side?”, and that’s why he was so desperate in trying to get Crowley to come with him. Ironically enough, Aziraphale wanting to go back to Heaven to fix it was out of love for the relationship that he and Crowley have, because “fixing Heaven” means making a better, more peaceful place for the two of them to exist. But to Crowley, he interprets this as Aziraphale choosing his abuser over their love (and he’s not incorrect in that belief but we’ll get to that in a little bit). What Crowley doesn’t notice is that, in a cruel and ironic twist of fate, Aziraphale IS actually choosing their love, but he keeps holding onto the idea of Heaven because it aligns with his innate desire to do good. So in order to mend the two (sort of like cognitive dissonance), he wants to replicate their love on Earth in Heaven in hopes that it will finally bring peace to not only their forbidden relationship, but also to all of Heaven itself.
Aziraphale’s logic makes sense here when you think of it as “hitting two bird with one stone”, but it’s just painful because he doesn’t realize he’s being manipulated by Metatron who gives him the false sense of choice. Metatron and Heaven 100% represent an abuser and an abusive household in my mind, and Aziraphale represents the victim that is torn between the unconditional love and freedom he feels when he’s with Crowley and the heavy burden of guilt he feels running away from a house like Heaven. We all say ‘that’ scene is when Crowley gets rejected by Aziraphale, but in Aziraphale’s mind, it’s him being rejected by Crowley. It’s why Aziraphale says “I forgive you” to Crowley after the kiss, because Aziraphale feels like he’s been wronged when he literally just admitted to Crowley “I’m choosing OUR love to make Heaven a better place, because I believe in the good will of Heaven, and good will is the core of what I am” and got rejected for it.
Both Crowley and Aziraphale are laying themselves the barest they’ve ever been in the series, but in the end, they both reject each other because they both misunderstood the other so. terribly. hard. And that’s why it’s so terribly painful to watch.
The best thing for the both of them to do is to actually have The Talk they’ve been avoiding for so many years, and honestly I don’t blame them, because imagine trying to unravel a millennia of abuse and the subconscious coping mechanisms and behaviorisms that came with it to the one you love the most.

I get that people were upset but calling a season badly written because the ending upsetted you is just... ludicrous? Aziraphale is just dripping with religious trauma, that's arguably the biggest thing he as a character has to overcome. It's frustrating but it makes sense that he acted the way he did in the final moments of the season.
Azirafael did not look exited to me. He looked like he was doubting his desicion but had to lie to himself that it was the right choice .

For me it was like he hesitated much but when Mettatron said about the second coming, Azira couldn't possibly back up because it was just like in s1 when he tried to fix things with angels' help (spoiler: he's still delusional but he got power (sort of (we'll see)))
I think we should be grateful that Neil actually has given us everything we wanted. Because after decades of queerbating this show is truly a blessing and there is so much representation. I‘m glad he made this incredible series and I‘m excited for s3 because I know they will have a happy ending. This show means so much to me, because it’s like a light at the end of the tunnel when you‘re going to rough times. So keep going Neil, we love you!
My mum and I watch good omens together and when we watched the season 2 finale I asked her how she felt after the episode and she turned to me with teary eyes and just flatly said “sad” and then got up to go to bed
The ending was sad, sure, but I'm really excited to see where it goes. I think it was necessary and I don't understand all the hate towards Neil or all the fan theories saying the Azi was drugged.

Big agree! It would completely ruin the entire climax of this season for me. I would rather for them to break up over different views and real conflict than find out that one of them has been drugged and is being controlled and thats the entire reason they argued. Just terrible writing.
@@zemantler YES. Aziraphale thinks that he's finally overcome Crowley's temptations, and he's being rewarded by heaven for it. And of course, in his naive worldview Heaven is always on the right side, because they're heaven! There's a reason he just keeps looking more and more smug during that end credits scene. It might break my heart in the short term, but I am SO looking forward to what Neil and Sir Pterry had in mind for a sequel to the original story!

@@sanzoskitten Right towards the end though, literally the last second before the fade away the smile looks really really genuine but my theory is actually that that's where he's come to the conclusion that Crowley kissed him because he *meant it* instead of as a way to keep him on earth (but that might just be shipper goggles and it's actually bc Aziraphale thinks he's found a solution or something similar). Aziraphale's planning during the elevator ride, yes, but he's also processing that the Metatron wants him to direct the second coming which he literally only found out the moment before he stepped into the elevator and it wrecked him. He doesn't want the world to end, after all. That's what I think his facial journey conveys and it also explains why he tries to school his features while being there with the Metatron. And yes, there are several forced smiles as a part of that. But that last one? Looked pretty genuine and unsuppressable to me.

Even though I was COMPLETELY DEVASTATED by the end - I don't think I ever felt such emotional shock before, I couldn't function for 2 days and I'm sensitive still -, in terms of story, it is simply a masterpiece and I admire Gaiman so fucking much for managing such a touching scene, he's a master and I'm sad he's getting hate for his godlike writing skills. Hope the fandoms calm down and we can all wait patiently (hopefully not for too long) for S3 :')

Aziraphale is terrified, and of course anyone would be. Heaven tried to incinerate him, he's been constantly threatened. He fell in love with Crowley and that constant anxiety of someone finding out. And when he gets the opportunity to have a position of power and better yet get Crowley to become an angel like he remembers when he falls in love, of course he would think they would be happy together. And Crowley knows they're at much higher risk being up there than just doing their own thing. Both characters have pretty solid reasons as to why they acted the way they did.

I feel like Crowely gave Azi choice, just like Heavan gives human choice. Azi talks about how important choice is. Azi getting on the elevator is completely in his character. I hated it, but it is what he would do. Remember, Azi always has a plan, he lets Crowley save him. I think we will see this come into play in season 3. Until then i will keep watching it over and over and watching endless edits.

god, i didnt even know people were actually upset with the ending. i was hurt and i was THRILLED. Not only was Neil Gaiman dedicated to cementing that relationship with such a human action, one that can’t be misconstrued in any way to be anything OTHER than romantic; He was strong enough to pull it all away when we got it. And it wasn’t pointless, it wasn’t mindless viciousness-there really was no other way that could have gone. We ended season one on a high note-nowhere to go but down. The only thing with any sort of variation was how it would be executed, and Neil Gaiman, and David Tennant, and Michael Sheen, delivered in such a phenomenal way. Every action and decision is not only in character, it’s just about the rawest, most true and most important parts of each character.
Think about it. If every season ended in a positive way, all the stakes seem null and void. People would lose interest. *I* would lose interest. And if you need something to go wrong, you may as well go for the most gut wrenching thing you have in your inventory.
As a little sadist in my own writing, I painfully enjoyed this "ending"- which is, in fact, the overture to a third season which we hopefully have the pleasure to watch the next years (please don't keep us waiting 4 more, that'd be 2027 😭).
Seriously, I just don't get how people could actually hate on Neil Gaiman or Michael Sheen. Seriously, what the heck? In one comment, I read that Aziraphale's the "true villain" of the story, what weird kind of substances people have to take to actually think that way? Of course he hurt Crowley, but that was not his intention. He just wanted to get him back to heaven and hoped that he'd be the happy guy he used to be when they first met. He doesn't see why Crowley refuses his offer, because for Azira, it's still the simple "heaven=good/hell=bad" thing. Which was extremely frustrating to watch for me as well, of course. But I don't hate Gaiman or Sheen for it, because that's an extremely strong element to create tension and even despair between two characters. The way Crowley puts his glasses on after Azira tells him that "nothing lasts forever" is basically a way to show how he puts his guard up, that he only left down whenever these two were together.
Fortunately, I found a lot of fan videos here on CZcams and the comment section was mostly enlightening. So much love and hope that our favourite angel-demonic couple will find together again, and I'm sure they WILL. Neil Gaiman mentioned that this season had to happen this way to build up the setting for season 3, a story which he had created together with Terry Pratchett before the latter died in 2015. So whenever people say that "this is not Good Omens"- you are wrong and need to do the apology dance! Just like Azira will have to do- or in his case, it will have to be an entire musical for Crowley! 😂
I watched it with my mum, we knew Crowly liked the angel (it was pretty obvious). So we kinda expected it, but we also discussed that Aziraphale actually never had time to understand his feelings for Crowley. This season was Crowly understanding his feelings but Airzaphale clearly didn't have a lot of time to do that. I hope next season is going to be him actually realising that.
I felt so sad after the ending of s2 but I am comforted atleast a little bit by the fact that it's not the end of Good Omens as a whole and also atleast I have Muriel and Saraqael (they're my favorite s2 characters and i absolutely adore both of them with every fiber of my corporation)

I had a blaze of anger/disappointment the first ~2 hours after I saw s2 and was in a bit of a daze the next 2-3 days.
I'm a lot calmer now and can appreciate what Neil (and everyone else involved) has gifted us with, because he was never obligated to continue the story at all. Also, like so many people have pointed out, this isn't the end of the story, at all, and I have trust in what he has planned. I truly hope the strike is resolved faster (in favour of the writers and actors, ofc), so that the production on s3 could start asap if they renew it.
What I'm really worried about, though, is the people sending him literal death threats (I saw a post on Tumblr that had @ him, completely unhinged) and whether that might not make him want to stop engaging with the fans as he has been. People need to realize that just because they can tell someone something on their mind, it doesn't mean they should.

What season 2 did was have us eager for season 3 and we'll have a Canon version of how Aziraphale and Crowley will carve their relationship when the big avocado passes. We know that their ship is Canon and that a current obstacle is in the way, but they've overcome so much worse. And it's going to be nice to have the Canon reveal this because the majority of fanfic is just them eventually getting married, domestic life fluff and their sex lives.....
It's going to be nice to see them actually fully develop their relationship before they finally settle down together
19:14 I RELATE TO THIS SO HARD. Back before the season came out, I started to wonder how I was going to go back to normal after finishing season 2, and it's been weird. Like, I know I'll probably find something new to obsess over within the time between seasons, but a part of me just feels so empty without the excitement of waiting for new pictures or small bits of scenes to be posted. :(

Honestly, coming into the fandom after finishing season 2 was so baffling to me because the ending was my *favourite* part. Waiting out everyone's fix-it fic/grieving era because I really just want to think about where the characters will go from here!
This season was a lot "smaller" and more self-contained than season 1. I mean, it's literally the Apocalypse vs one Archangel's love life. The two can't compare 😂 so I can understand if some people didn't like it as much because they expected more action and a more intricate plot (if they trash the whole season simply for the ending, THAT I cannot understand...). But I really, really liked it. I like more self-contained stories where I can focus on the characters' interactions rather than keep track of several plot lines/charcacters' motives/lines etc. This was a fun season that I could just enjoy without needing to take notes until the very end, when Gabriel's motives for leaving Heaven were revealed and Metatron showed up. If 3 seasons of Good Omens were an entire book trilogy, I'd say that season 2 definitely suffers with the "middle book syndrome" aka not much happens plot-wise, because the main goal is to set up the final installment. If reading such book might be boring and frustrating, watching this season was a completely different experience: it was fun an lighthearted (until it wasn't lol). And it makes sense for it to be. We escaped Apocalypse in season 1, imagine how repetitive it would've been if season 2 were about the same thing. Season 2 was a bit of a breather before the final season, when shit will go down. It's the calm before the storm, so to speak.
I see Aziraphale as a victim of religious trauma and/or of an abusive relationship. It doesn't matter how many times people help you open your eyes about the entire situation: if you get the chance to go back, you will. It's a vicious cycle. After Heaven wanted to destroy Job's children, after the Flood, after Aziraphale preached that Elspeth was LUCKY to be poor only to be confronted with her misery and desperation... he still told Crowley "You (demons) are the bad guys!" as soon as he got the chance to be in Heaven again. I wasn't surprised at all by his regression, it was to be expected.
We also known that Crowley was a powerful angel (he created entire galaxies and can access top secret documents in Heaven) who fell because of "asking a few questions". Of course he's incredibly bitter towards and wary of Heaven. He went from having the ability to CREATE wondrous things, and from wanting to show humans his creations for them to enjoy... to nothing. To being expected to TORMENT humans. All because god is a petty, vindictive tyrant that can't stand criticism or even simple curiosity. Aziraphale on the other hand, was a lower ranking angel (higher than Muriel, but nowhere near Crowley). He was tasked with guarding the gate of Eden and with stopping demons from hurting humans aka he was an enforcer of angelic bureaucracy on Earth, but had no decision-making power of his own. The angels with actual power stay in Heaven, they do not concern themselves with humans, do not intervene, they just make sure that the status quo is respected. And after thousands of years dealing with angelic bureaucracy and starting to feel affection for the humans, for the first time ever Aziraphale believes he has the power to change things. Do I think he'll succeed? No. Not unless god dies. Literally, I see no way they will ever change their mind. So unless God is removed from the picture entirely, I doubt things will ever change in Heaven. And Aziraphale needs to learn that the hard way.
i think the ending was perfect primarily because it sets aziraphale in a great position to resolve his character arc. like - in comparison to crowley, who is well aware of both heaven and hell's toxicity, aziraphale is pretty much clinging to any olive branch heaven extends towards him. i mean i'd absolutely go back too in his situation considering he has been walking on eggshells for six thousand years, and the fact that he's given an opportunity to change everything he was scared of makes so much sense. also loved the video :D ur whole vibe and the way it was formatted was very nice to watch
I felt exactly like you about the show and the fandom. I think that last kiss is the kiss we don't deserve, I was so happy to see them so physically near for once, but they were really miserable. To create value, drama, and weight for the story and the characters... well, it was perfect. But in next season, I hope to see the most fu*kingly tender kiss in all cinema history. And maybe the two of them enter a bedroom 😂
The end of episode 6 was rough but it was also my favourite scene of season 2. The actors did such a good job, it was a great scene even if it was upsetting. I definitely agree that this had to happen, Aziraphale needs to finally let go of the need for heaven’s approval. He needs to have this character growth to fully leave heaven behind.
That being said, I am absolutely drowning in a puddle of my own tears and will be inconsolable for weeks. 😭
Just one more comment: I am so grateful for this series. It's more than a series to me. It has helped me a lot because I have been on this really horrible deconstruction journey in my life. The show has been thought provoking and I am surprised how it has refreshed my faith and I have kinda gotten permission to question the pilars of my faith in a safe environment. I don't know. I just feel this show is Heaven sent (maybe even literally).
you know having nina and maggie story in this season really says a lot. it's like nina is both azi and crowley. crowley was traumatized by heavens and developed unhealthy coping mechanisms (running away, pretending to not care) and azi is currently in a toxic relationship with heaven. it's like they've been bad to him in the past and he withdrew himself from them but now metatron is saying all those nice things and azi falls back into it. and crowley can't really save him from this one because he himself is hurting on so many levels. i'm sure part of him misses the time when he was an angel but at the same time he doesn't trust heaven (or any authorities at this point) anymore. so even tho he was happy as an angel he was also blinded and sheltered, now after the fall he knows how rotten the up is and that becoming an angel won't really fix anything. he probably just wants a simple life maybe even boring one, he's sick of those games, of god's plans, he's probably sick of being alert all the time (he was very anxious this season) but azi doesn't get that. azi has always been the 'greater good' enthusiast.
also he kinda looked like crowley was "jealous" of heaven. azi always talked about heaven, put it on the first place. so maybe crowley is both frustrated and jealous. frustrated because he doesn't know what to do to make azi finally realize that heaven is no better than hell and azi should quit it. and jealous too because crowley wants to be on the first place for azi.
like, it's so obvious that he cares about crowley a lot but for some reason he can't let himself go, maybe he doesn't want for crowley to feel lonely anymore, he wants for him to have a purpose again, idk. we've yet to find out about his motivation ig
i also feel like they've parted thinking that they're right, stubborn in their opinions. here you can see the lack of communication they have, they've been together for thousands of years yet still can't truly hear each other. and in the end for a bit azi looked like he regrets going but then he wears a certain expression as in "i'll show you that i can do it, that it's possible to change things and then you'll believe me"

I was SOOO upset with Aziraphale when I watched the scene for the first time but after thinking over it more when I was a lot calmer it makes a ton of sense for him to make the decision that he did. Aziraphale has always been so stubborn in his belief he can fix everything and Metatron pretty much handed him the power to FINALLY do so. Aziraphale has good intentions but he’s SO SO SO NAIVE and forgiving that he can’t tell if he’s being used. I can’t stay mad at the poor guy because I know his heart is in the right place. Seeing people get so genuinely angry at him makes me sad because they’re only seeing it from Crowley’s perspective. Which is understandable! Because to Crowley it sounds like Aziraphale is telling him that what they have together now isn’t enough for him and isn’t worth preserving. I really liked the point you brought up about how when the two get into an argument, Crowley defaults to running away. It wasn’t something I recognized before and I’m gonna look for it again on my S1-2 rewatches. My only real complaint is that I wish the overall season was paced better so this ending didn’t feel like it came out of nowhere ;;;
You're so right, it's important to think about the characters and where they are. Notably I think, Aziraphale didn't *like* that kiss, it took him completely by surprised and he was resistant and tense and even after kinda getting into it a bit he was all tearful and upset afterwards. It wasn't romantic. Crowley waited too long and pushed too hard at the wrong moment. Just like people do in real romances sometimes! It'll be okay!

That ending had me ABSOLUTELY SOBBING and mourning for the next like 5 days. Absolutely ruined my week but in the BEST way possible because I only feel that way because of how much I just love these characters! Like it seems kind of weird but the fact that it made me so miserable makes me so happy

I procrastinated on watching season 2. I didn’t know what to expect, but if you were to tell me that it would feed into my recent Jane Austen obsession I would have watched it to prove you wrong. I totally agree with what Crowley was doing by tempting Azi. Neil Gaiman was brilliant with what he had and I’m glad it took as long as it did for it. Aziraphale was wrong, but it’s totally in character for him to do and and he’s totally oblivious to how Metatron insulted Crowley. He did so much for heaven and they turned their back on him for asking question and still judge him for doing so. There’s no way they’re giving him any real control to make a difference. Gabriel of all angels leaving it should be the biggest red flag.
I'm still thinking that Aziraphell should apologize with the dance, but I'm totally agree with you that he wants to be with Crowley, and he has some traumatisme and still believes in Heaven but he doesn't understand that Crowley is traumatized too! He was an angel ("a prince of Heaven") and he fell for... whatever the reason, but he can accord his trust again... we've seen it in the show when he opens the file and... you're right, they don't speak to each other. But... I totally understand Crowley. He was ever here for him, he supports him even when he has his own problems. He was upset that Aziraphell doesn't understand that the true problem IS the Heaven... The same Heaven that tried to k!ll his best friend, the one that betrayed the both of them.
Crowley is still traumatized even if 6000 years passed and no one can expect him to forgive the Heaven and when Aziraphell asks him to go with him, it was bold but they don't talk so, technically, he cannot know.
I hope it will be a third season, and we'll see a proper apology from both of them and a proper talk. (Sorry for the mistakes, English is only my fourth language😅)

I personally really liked the ending of s2. It made sense for their characters and the finale was dramatic. I live for tragic/sad endings and im an angst girlie so it was perfect to me. I do want them tgt for s3 of course, which im 100% sure it will happen eventually. Cant wait for it!
I completely agree with you. I think the people who hold the opinion that Aziraphale was abusive are just the people who kin Crowley too hard to see what's happening from Aziraphale's side. Because this second season breakup literally just the bigger version of the issues that split Crowley and Aziraphale in the first season.

I never once genuinely thought of hating either Neil Gaiman or Aziraphale. Neil Gaiman delivered a delicious dose of pain which of course I jokingly “hate” him for but I am a huge sucker for that stuff. The only thing I am angry about is how long I’ll have to wait for the next season. And Aziraphale has always been afraid of going against heaven as well still somewhat cautiously believing that heaven is good. He genuinely thinks he can change things and I think he believes Metatron wants to do good. The way Metarton shows up sort of paints him as a good guy, he reprimands the angels we are shown to be corrupt bureaucrats and he shows up in person, in a human form, making him more personable. Aziraphale has always been filled with doubts and constantly struggles to decide what route is actually good. And he doesn’t want to just run away because he loves the world and does want to fix things. Him and Crowley ultimately want very similar things but have very different ideas of how to accomplish them. They both want to be together and for Aziraphale that means being in heaven as angels and doing good, for Crowley who knows how corrupt bot heaven and hell are, this means leaving them behind. Same goes for keeping the world safe.

they have been together for at least 7000 years. Some time appart will do them good to grow and come back together stronger and as adults. It was devastating. I was watching it with my partner and he fell asleep in the middle of it so when I screamed when the credits rolled, he did not understand and I couldn't tell him what happened. Well I told him that it was so so sad... Very sad ending and with the not knowing when and if it will have a third season...I'm gonna stop before I start crying in despair. If there is going to be a third season each one of them would be coming out during different stages of my adult life: The first season came out while I was in school, now I am in college and the third one would happen after I have my diploma. I really, REALLY love these characters and can't wait for the strike to be over and Amazon greenlighting this.

obviously they are both traitors and aziraphale would have to do things to redeem himself for the years he spent fraternising with the enemy. aziraphale always tries to do the right thing as well although he does see everything as black and white. meanwhile crowley is always kind even without wanting to be. he was cast out because he asked too many questions about the order of things and right and wrong but he still clearly tries to do what is best for everyone.

Season 3 is gonna be absolutely BEAUTIFUL
I didn't grief. I wasn't expecting the finally (specially the kiss) when I started the show, but when Metraton came, I knew what will happened. I agree that their decisions and the end WAS in character. For everyone. I would have written the end exactly the same way (probably without kiss, tho, I thought it would never happened because the people in charge would never agree with it and I'm glad I was wrong because it was superbe), and I know they'll be back together at the end of season 3. It can't be another way, it's just in character. They needed it to be able to be an healthy couple. And the world need it too ! If they aren't around, who will save the world from destruction ? They both have very good points, and Aziraphale needs to be in charge... but not to fix heaven, as he thinks, but to destroy it ! And destroy hell. And God needs someone to tells them "STOP you fuckin' idiot !!". When he was an angel, Crowley believed God needed someone to tell God that the plan was a BAD idea. And he is right, but was not powerful enough / in the right position to make it happended. With his new position, Aziraphale will be able to see how Paradise, God, Hell and Satan are fuck*d up and need to be... well, need to wake up ! Their actions have freakin' consequences ! When Aziraphale will not have any illusions anymore, he will come back to Crowley, apologies and they will come up with a plan to destitute God, destroy Hell and Paradise, and the universe will FINALLY be saved from any kind of Armagedon.
Anyway, just to say I was kinda expecting all of this while watching more and more episodes. It makes sense, so no grief. It was an excellent finally. Also, I agree that Aziraphale is an idiot. Well, I mean he is naive and have too much love and hope, wich make him do and believe stupid things. He is desillusional, and Croley knows it. But he cant' bring himself to destroy the hopes of his angel and... let him to mistakes. Somehow, I think he knows he mustn't be the one who open the eyes of Aziraphale. Aziraphale needs to do it by himself. If Crowley was the one opening his eyes, he would destroy Aziraphale and he can't do it. I don't think Aziraphale would forgive him if he did. He warned him, and that's all he can do. It's the same when you see and woman being beaten by her husband : you can warn her, give her solutions, explain her that she is not in fault and her husband is toxic... but you cant' force her to leave her husband. That would mean kidnapping her and shut her down from a husband who probably already shuted her down from all her friends and familly (I lived it, I know how powerless we can be in those situations... we just can't do anything to help). I understand why people are in denial, and grieving, and mad... that's just mean how much the show was well written. Because that's how the characters feel !! And it's beautiful(ly written), and heart breaking, and feels so real ! And season 3 will be WORST. Be prepare to an even worst mental break down, but with a sweet end. I have very high expectations for seaon 3 ^^
I love this show, had no idea there were so many fans with such passion. The chemistry between the angel and demon is so real, the actors in real life also have chemistry. They are real friends and so much of that shows on screen. That’s what makes it so good. Season 3 must happen!

The finale caused a storm of mixed emotions for me, it changed me, broke my heart, but I am insanely grateful that it exists. Now I watch edits on the series every day. I heard a theory that Crowley stopped time during the kiss and they actually have a plan/ swap bodies when they pull apart. Supposedly the clock in the background moves ahead 15 minutes, but I took screenshots of the clock and I really don't see it. I think it's another case of grasping at straws because I definitely agree that they are not mature enough in their relationship to have a conversation about it. I think that their reactions are genuine to the characters, and I think it's a sign of wonderful writing that we all feel broken and watching it. I will definitely be watching both seasons again to help give it the attention it deserves

I needed this therapy ! The only way I can deal with the ending is to keep the thought "If you love something set it free". Crowley loves Aziraphale so much he had to let him go , let him find out for himself how toxic Heaven really is. The shot of Crowley standing by the car watching Aziraphale leave made me feel like someone was ripping my heart out of my chest and letting an elephant jump up and down on it. You want to save them both but they have to "save" themselves. Clearly my screaming "go to Alpha Centauri with Crowley " was not heard !! lol Ciao ! ( you are awesome ! )
I don't think he was smiling and happy in the elevator. It looks very anxious, uncomfortable, and heartbroken. And that he was contemplating the huge task ahead of him and the sacrifice he just had to make. He thinks he's setting himself up as best he can in order to save the universe

It's terrible, but I try to remember that I'd rather for it to drop in 4 year than wait a year and then find out that it sucks. We waited long for this one and it didn't disappoint, so I trust Neil that the final season will be just as good as the previous two if he takes his time with it!

When I first watched it on the first day I won’t lie I felt a little and I mean LITTLE mad at Aziraphale, but I can’t really hate him bc I love him with all my heart. But the next day, the second time watching I really paid attention and I started understanding him more, I understood both of them. Why Crowley got upset and why Aziraphale went to heaven. Aziraphale also looked back like 4 times for Crowley before going to heaven, and he tried making up excuses to not go to heaven until Metatron mentioned he could bring Crowley with him. I also do believe Aziraphale has religious trauma. I tried explaining to my friend and she just got mad at me and still hates aziraphale. 😭
The one thing I miss in season 2 of Good Omens is the hilarious dialogue from the narrator from time to time that they had in Good Omens season 1. Such a good series though. Can't wait for season 3. Both Sheen and Tennant are amazing together.

I think Azirophale also looked sad and mixed feelings on the elevator to Heaven, not really smiling, happy, and excited.

okay i need to correct you on the coffee theory because your interpretation of it is so … different than how i interpreted it
The almond thing, IN MY OPINION, is an allegory for poison, not LITERALLY poison. Cyanide has been said to taste like bitter almonds, and so sometimes in literature, cyanide/poison in general is associated with almonds. *I don’t think that The Metatron LITERALLY PUT CYANIDE IN HIS COFFEE,* however I do think that this parallel is there for a reason, implying that Aziraphale is being tampered with in some way, that the coffee is being used as a manipulation tactic. Also the coffee must be significant in some way because it appears during this season’s intro MULTIPLE different times.
Also, the miracle sound isn’t when Aziraphale *drinks* the coffee, it’s when The Metatron *hands the coffee over.* I hear it perfectly fine (I am not delusional I promise 💀)
edit: i went back to episode 6 for a timestamp on the miracle noise, it happens at about 35:48 !!
Hi! I think the issue here is that there are many versions of the coffee theory out there, so while you may interpret it as cyanide, I've seen lots of other versions that say it's the almonds that are making Aziraphale holier (is this even a word).
I understand what you mean, I actually kind of like that idea- The coffee serving as a poison for Aziraphale, poisoning his current views, relationship and life. I do think the coffee is important, because its Metatron showing him basic kindness, which manipulates Aziraphale into thinking that he may be not be as bad as the rest of heaven. My friend said that it parallels apple from Eden, which i completely agree with. Metatron is tempting him, and Aziraphale mirrors Eve in some way- he hesitates at first, but eventually sees no harm in taking the coffee, which eventually leads him to betraying Crowley- just as Eve betrayed God. So yes, while I do think it's used as a manipulation tactic, I don't think it was anything more than just mind games on Metatrons side. You don't have to believe it, it's just food for thoughts :)
I apologize for the miracle sound tho, I dont know why i was so sure that it should play when he drinks it so that was my fault. Although, I do think thats just a car noise from the outside. If you rewatch the entire bookshop scene, even when Gabriel and Beelzebub are there, there are lot of noises coming from outside, because the bookshop is placed on a really busy street in Soho. So I don't think it's a miracle sound, I just think it was very unfortunate sound mixing in post production. Of course, everything is up for interpretation, this is just my view on it. Take care!

Coffee appears in the intro because of Nina’s coffee shop. There’s coffee throughout the series.
Metraton getting coffee for Aziraphale doesn’t serve a purpose except for character introduction. He shows up in the coffeehouse and we’re like “ whoa he’s here ? He’s not just a big talking head? What an ominous and mysterious character” he talks to Nina about human beings and their choices and he seems much more intelligent than the other angels , so he’s a bit scary. He gives Aziraphale a coffee because he’s just trying to seem like a cool dad, not like a regular dad - he’s hip with the human stuff, he’s been earthside. The coffee itself is completely mundane
Aziraphale was not happy. Their story is sad because we all know that they want to be together but knowing Aziraphale, he is an angel who wants to do good and make a difference. It's in his nature. And Crowley doesn't want to go back to heaven because he doesn't want to be limited and constricted. That's why their story is tragic.
And I think Metatron knows that and intentionally told Aziraphale to tell Crowley and Metatron knows that Crowley will not join Heaven and that Aziraphale will accept his offer. He knows that it will cause their breakup/separation.
The following season I imagined as if it were a conversation, the conversion of 6000 years of friendship and guarded feelings.
I get this idea especially from the question raised in season two: they've known each other for a long time, but they've never been able to talk properly and truthfully, no matter what the "sides" might think or do to them.
Starting with the two of them sitting at the Rits or the bookshop or some special place to them and talking about what happened after the Season 2 finale.
Bringing us what happened in between and comparing it to flashbacks from the past (which are some of the fan favorite scenes).
Then at the end of all this conversation (that is, at the end of season 3) they reconcile with their traumas and can move on together (showing us some moments of course).
But anyway, let's wait and see what Neil and Prime will give us
I don't know what social media you use, but I've been with the fandom all this time since they dropped S2 and my experience is just lovely! We've all been creating theories, sending them to each other along with heartrending fanart and edits! I don't know what corners of the internet you're in, but I've had the wonderful experience of those 2 weeks of discussing with other fans possible interpretations and trying to understand these characters we all love so much! Weird xD It's probably because I use Twitter (I don't call it X, sorry) XD

just wanted to say that I very much snorted at the edit at 4:09 love the casual humour. And you pretty much articulated all my thoughts in a great compact but also extensive way and it´s nice knowing that many people feel the same way. I personally loved season 2 but I can understand criticism (for example regarding the plot). However, I was astonished about the hate esp. Neil Gaiman was getting (which was the worst given that he´s real lol). People act like they never ever heard the word nuance in their lives and acted like the whole show was supposed to specifically cater to their personal needs
It's particularly awful behaviour given how accepting and accommodating Neil (and Michael and David as well) have always been towards fandom/ fan behaviours. Fanfiction, shipping, the whole shebang. It's like people really thought they were just there to do fan service as opposed to creating an artistic work.

Jokes aside, I’m probably in the minority believing this was a (angsty) yet brilliant direction for the series to ramp the tension all the way back up for the final act. Yes it was devastating seeing characters you love in pain but they’re fictional vehicles for overcoming conflict - thats why we love them and why we’re invested!
I mean I really don’t understand the fandom… like it’s a good scene it serves the plot. It would be boring if nothing happens. Also it’s obvious that in season 3 they will reconcile and it’s all gonna be dramatic and romantic lol although I hate that we’ll have to wait so long for it

I agree that we should not hate Aziraphale.Yes when we saw Crowley was so sad and Aziraphale smiling at the end that made us mad. But like you said (so well) I can understand Azi’s motives. And yes he wanted be together with Crowley in heaven. And yes Azi loves heaven, God and believes that he can fix it but yes heaven do not want fixed and they will use Azi. I wish Crowley would say more about what he saw. However i don’t think that would change Azi’s decision. Because Azi was euphoric about everything and didn’t understand why Crowley didn’t want to be an angel again. They need to talk more this stuff ..
However i can’t help but feels so sad for Crowley. Because thousands of years even they knew they were partners in crime, and lovers they never spoke the words loudly. Because they are angel and demon and the rules bla bla bla. So thanks to lesbian lovers Crowley found the courage to speak their feelings finally. But it was still hardest thing to do for Crowley i believe . I mean he’s cracking voice and crying.. He was most truthful at that moment in his existence. And then his love Azi talked about heaven whrere abondoned him once. I mean its so depressing when i think Crowley’s situation. And i am also sad for Azi because he will find out what heaven is really about and that would be a devastation for him.
the one thing keeping me sane is that the ending guarantees that they have to talk about it in s3. that will fix me
I really liked it, glad I dont read reviews before I watch. I mean the ending was harsh for them but it leaves it in a great place to start season 3
