In 1947 Chicago, Polish emigrant and bar owner Leonard Chess (Adrien Brody) hires a blues combo that includes guitarist Muddy Waters (Jeffrey Wright) and harmonica player Little Walter (Columbus Short). Howlin Wolf was one of the only band leaders that did it right from that time period. Fair pay, insurance, paid into their SSI, and didn't allow any drugs or alcohol use when touring. According to everyone that knew him, he was fiercely loyal to his wife. Who do you know these days that all of that is true of?
>
Coming from a white person?
I knew nothing of the blues and never even heard the name Howlin Wolf til I saw this movie, then I started listening to his songs and came across Spoonful, good lord this guy had a voice that was just unreal. I've gotten into a lot of great older blues musicians over the last year but Howlin Wolf is definitely my favorite. You can truly feel the power and emotion through his voice, it's really something special!
He sold his soul, he lost that very moment
Weird Al
Whoever played Howlin Wolf in this movie has done such a phenomenal job
The comment below yours tell the info you seek.
Funfact : He is british actor
Last playing the Chief of Firehouse 51 on the tv drama Chicago fire.
@@shenglongisback4688, Chief Boden from Fire house 51. Actually, I think he was promoted to Deputy District Commissioner in the show though he still resides in the house.
@@norahcherono4545 oh real last season I've watched where Stella and Kelly are married.
*His name is Eamonn Walker.*
Gave me chills.
This actor should’ve won a Oscar 🏆 He made you feel like he was the real Howlin Wolf 🐺
Um no!
He certainly acted the role with fierce compassion, that's for sho' ! Love it.
@@H0DLTHED0Rif it was a whole movie focused around him and his life, then maybe nominated probably would deserve it, but wouldn’t receive it.
Not how oscar’s work, unfortunately.
True story
U can’t just hand Oscar’s out like it’s candy. This dude had a 10/10 performance for the the times he was shown but he only had like 7 minutes screentime

Bad Man
My favorite scene Eamon and Jeffrey brought it in this scene just facial expressions and eye contact.. Two fantastic actors..
This scene portrays him
accurately because after
I re-watched a documentary
about Howlin' Wolf a while back,
I've learned that Wolf was verbally
assertive and fiercely aggressive
when it came letting people know
who was in charge and not only that..
he also made sure everyone knew
how to be & play in a band 🐺
Definitely wouldn’t argue with someone as tall as him and with a voice as scary as his lol
He needs a movie forsure
What's the name of his documentary.
This was my grandmother's favorite part, she loved the way Howling Wolf sang, R.I.P
Grandma😊
So sorry for your loss Janet, hope you are feeling better now?
Me too!!!!!!
Say what you want about Columbus Short but he did an extraordinary job portraying Little Walter.
He completely transformed into Little Walter. There was no trace of Columbus. It's kind of scary how well he played that role
Absolute agree
He is still a low life POS.
YEP- BUT REALITY - ALL EXPLOITED FINACIALLY
Yes he did!
Howlin' Wolf's seduction and alpha personality here is electrifying, that dead eye contact, he played this VERY well
sigh, oh for a man this passionate
@@puellaenaturalioasis You'll find someone like that sweetheart, dont worry
I love the fact that the REAL Hubert Sumlin was playing guitar by the side of the actor playing his part.

Until you mentioned and I checked, it was awesome to see Hubert Sumlin playing next to the actor playing him. Thank you for sharing, fun facts.

Incredible casting for Holwin Wolf
Lawd that’s a big fine man
@@nickiejones1329 YES, he is

I love the way Wolfe looks at the women like she's biscuit and gravy and he's gone slop her up.
She's beautiful
@@nisinisi4627indeed...dark. rich, velvety chocolate

Welp looks like Wolf won this round Muddy😂.
It's something extremely seductive about Emmon's performance in this seen. Can't quite put a finger on it, but it's my favorite seen in the movie because of it.
Oh yessss
@Cyan Greene Yes, he is indeed!
Its because he oozes the kind of masculinity that is not boisterous nor phony. Genuine male energy. In every sound that exits from his mouth. Verbal ice cream baby...woooooooo
I watch Chicago Fire just to watch him!
I feel it too. It's that feeling of assertiveness from a man while also showing the need to be respected. This is something we don't see to often anymore from men. Thanks feminism. In this day in age this is considered toxic masculinity. Sigh 🤦
What a song !! The way the blues is supposed to be delivered . With feeling .passion and conviction !!! There can never ever be anyone like The Wolf !!! Period
this is more blues-rock if you ask me. Pure blues is something more like lightnin hopkins, just one man and a guitar and his sorrow
@@Eralen00 This is Chicago Electric Blues: THE BLUES. Your talking more about Country Blues in "Pure" blues.
@@dougsfavorites2578He’s talking about traditional blues. He’s correct, this is closer to “rock-blues” than most famous blues artists from this time or prior.
Howlin Wolf was a man of dignity, pride integrity, but when he tapped into that Wild Spirit , what a performer and Trailblazer....
Eamonn Walker is a hell of an actor.
The way they passed the gun around is UNDER RATED! Hahahahahaha
The real Howlin' Wolf was a strong, generous, Black man; full of dignity, caring, and integrity!
Actual audio confirms that Howlin Wolf told Hubert to keep it right where it was. Also he threatened to turn Adrian Brody's nose into a hat, told the dude with the gun to use it if he felt 'lucky', and told the girl she was slipping down the block right in front of his eyes. Savage.
RIP Howlin’ Wolf (June 10, 1910 - January 10, 1976), aged 65
You will always be remembered as a legend.
Eamonn Walker did an excellent job portraying Howling Wolf. Then again, the whole cast was amazing. I was surprised that Beyonce was such a natural in front of the camera. She (in my opinion) nailed the part of Etta James. One of my favourite music-based films of all time. 🤟❤❗
Great Movie. Loved every thing about it.
For sure.
R.I.P to Hubert Sumlin who was sitting next to the actor playing him. This is what made this movie so awesome.
"You know that Wolf, the way he stood up for his side man. Maybe he can teach you something, Mud." Be a leader. Stick up for your group.
It's a great scene. Made even better by the fact that the REAL Hubert Sumlin is sitting directly next to the actor portraying him on the killing floor.
Most did not know that... Yep.. That makes it more awesome. Legend... Real Talent. I love how Muddy wasn't um "too pleased."
ADRIAN was perfectly cast as LEN CHESS, no 1 else could've done it better, IMO. Muddy is so immensely jealous, insofar as Howlin Wolf singing
" Smokestack Lightning."
The "Big Bad Wolf." Howlin' at the moon, ever since! Love it. Cedric The Entertainer saying that. Love this part so much."

Everything about this scene was perfect, the ridiculousness of how they handed off the guns, the way the white guy checks where the gun is on the table subtly like 3 times, the way the other guy says "i guarantee you he hear me", howlin wolf and his antics, just perfection!
Eamonn is such a brilliant actor
No doubt 🧐 especially when he was on "OZ" Jesus Christ!!!! As the Muslim brother Damn!
Brother "Sayeed"
Also awesome as the villain in "Blood and Bone" with Michael Jai White.

Held that gun at him and didnt even flinch. Howlin wasnt afraid
If you get a chance to watch the documentary "Standing in the Shadow of Motown", this is how the music business was back then. There's a scene where the piano player is describing a poker game where everyone slaps their pistols down on the table. Hilarious, but tense!
I LOVED this session. This guy played the hell out of this singer❤❤
Eamonn Walker was brilliant as Howlin' Wolf!

@Radiant Siren prove it
@Radiant Siren You're right. They took a whole lot of creative license with this movie to dramatize things that never happened. Howlin' Wolf wasn't like this.
Will forever be one of the best scenes...thats how it is done!!!!
I love Muddy but he had nothin' on Chester Burnett. The Wolf not only had the voice everyone wanted, he also had the guitar player everyone wanted. Hubert Sumlin. He played it just like The Wolf wanted it. Fingers only and plenty loud. The world will never see such wonderful musicians like these again.
Hubert's great. No doubt. But Muddy himself and Jimmy Rogers in his band were no slouches either, especially Muddy playing slide.
This actor needs more roles. He’s the truth! 🎉
Ced the Entertainer made a hell of a narrator!
One of my favorite parts of this movie. He was “Howlin” for real. I haven’t seen this movie in years, it’s that time.❤
My father was of the Jim Crow generation of these types of black men. I understand why he was such a tough man.
The guy that plays Howlin Wolf is one of the leaders on that throwback show called OZ. All man , This guy is the truth!!!

Maaaan, I love watching and hearing Eamonn Walker weekly on Chicago FIRE. His eyes get your attention first! Great British and American actor!!!
Same Here!!
Remember that in the introduction of Muddy to Howlin' Wolf and Muddy commented that Wolf couldn't score a woman with the raggedy truck he had. So this scene shows Wolf spiffied up and being able to attract Middy's side chick, proving that Muddy is not that special to that woman; also Wolf one-ups Muddy by asserting control over his band, unlike Muddy whom allowed Len to control him, his band and his expenses; Muddy moves to steal Wolf's prized band mate as retribution. Wolf, again, one-ups Muddy by staging a possible fatal confrontation that thoroughly convinces Hubert to return to Wolf's band, because Wolf offers more protection and even fear. Last, Wolf has enough money to contribute to the funeral expenses of Muddy's best friend and band mate, which Muddy isn't able to due to his lascivious living, careless spending and poor decision making. Wolf had the least amount of scenes, but stood out as Muddy's senior in every single scene they encountered because Wolf wasn't just a big, dumb, giant sideshow freak, but a calculating, disciplined and wise man unlike Muddy whom was good-looking, charming, yet desperate, indecisive and a short-term thinker. I would hope for a Howlin'Wolf biopic with Eamonn Walker because he straight killed this role 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾💯💯💯
Muddy cane from sharecropping which is the brother of slavery so this explains why he wasn't more assertive. Taking chains off bodies did not free minds.
Excellent discussion
I had forgotten the comment about the truck. I was puzzled by the level of animosity they had for each other. Now I get it. As for the girl…..She what they used to call a good time girl. Good time girls are like buses. They stop for whomever would like to ride so Muddy shouldn’t have been surprised that the girl he was with was ready for a new rider….
Well said ...
