    I owned a SYM 300i maxi scooter (actually around 269cc) and I loved it. Liquid cooling meant it was quiet as a mouse, CVT meant it pulled away with great torque and it could easily cruise all day on Australian freeways. I’ve always loved single-cylinder bikes, too. The problem was for me, it was just a little too big for the reason I bought it. I wanted to scoot around to the shops, work, gym and then pop it back in the garage alongside the car. It was just a bit of a unit. Broke my heart to sell it, though. 🥲

    Love x-adv and went to try one, very little space for taller rider, handlebars hitting knees, horrible seat etc, very disapointing in terms of seating position. High pricing but not overpriced if compared to Tmax. Tried Xmax 400 after that and what a pleasant suprise, best looking scooters ever, lot of space very comfortable for any size rider, cant explain that xadv looks bigger yet xmax feels like S class Merc in comparison.
    Would like to try Integra now but cant find any, not even used, my understanding from watching reviews is that these are very comfortable and very stable in twisties. I personally think they are very ugly but havent seen one in person yet so could be wrong, I hope I am.
    I kept drooling over xmax400 but want the honda dct and real suspension/engine set up. X-adv would have been perfect if I could modify foot rests, suggestions/advice greatly appreciated.

    The appeal of a scooter is; they are lightweight and ideal for a short daily commute or as a delivery vehicle for food. At engine capacities below 250cc they make a lot of sense because the initial cost is low and government charges (at least in Australia) are reasonable. At engine sizes over 250 the government charges change that situation so they are not such a good option. Some of the scooters shown here are probably not what you would call large displacement engines. For example the Piaggio MP3 400 has a bigger cousin the Gilera 500 which has the same 3 wheel set up but a more industrial look. The Suzuki Burgman 650 and the BMW 600/650 are getting up into the big engines. The Aprilla 850 is definitely in that class. Consider that tourers go up to 1600 and cruisers up to 2300 although to be fair that is a single machine most are in the 1100 - 1700 range. A scooter of that size would be something to behold. How to manage the weight that such a machine would require and still keep the scooter feel and look would be a designers/engineers challenge. I own a Suzuki 650 Burgman AN Executive which is at home in the city traffic and can lane split (if that is legal in your area) with ease but is also at home and comfortable on the highways or backroads for a good day's touring. It is both comfortable and powerful enough to keep up with the big sports bikes. tourers and cruiser so that you want to spend a whole day on the seat. The CVT coupled to a 650 engine and ABS braking mean it can cope whatever a day's touring has to offer. There is plenty of built in storage in the dash as well as under the seat. An electrically adjustable windscreen keeps the wind off at high speed but allows for airflow at low speed in the city. A good bike overall.

      NSW Rego is currently $132 for all bikes. Where you could get stung is the Green slip (insurance) as this depends on bike, rider history, location etc.
      I had a Aprilia with the 278cc Quasar engine and and thinking about upgrading to the C650 Sport. My main concern is ability to lane split as the Aprilia is quite small so really useful for getting past traffic. The Bimmer looks to but longer and wider so may hold me back a bit.

    • @gooble69
      @gooble69 Před 4 lety +3

      @sploofmonkey I've had big bikes an prefer scooters because of ease of use. The auto gears makes life much easier and as long as you've got 250cc or more you have enough power to stay out of trouble.

  • @sumporfuk

    Wow I don’t know how I found your channel but I’m glad I did. I’ve been looking at scooters and thinking about buying one for a few years while waiting for the few models that I already knew about to develop further, but I didn’t know that there were so many more scooters on the market. I had always looked at BMW as being the best in this class but after watching this presentation It looks like a re-evaluation is in order because the competition is fierce. It’s also worth noting that the price tags are eye bulging as well.
    After living and traveling abroad (mostly Asia) for the better part of 2 decades I find scooters to very much common place in the rest of the world but not so much here in the US. Despite the hp ratings and things of that nature I find it unfair to try and compare scooters to motorcycles, they’re apples & oranges. Scooters are way more utilitarian then motorcycles could ever be and they readily lend themselves to practical everyday use. I own 3 different motorcycles but I just gotta a scooter, the trouble is which one.

      Aprillia, Piaggio, Honda, Suzuki,BMW, these are my creme of the crop picks... My suggestion, Maxi Scoots... 500 or above, they'll ride all day everyday, I have a Aprillia 500ie light, im 55, with physical mobility issues and a few health issues, mine will run slightly over 100 mph, is sturdy on the highway or city an has plenty of power to more than keep up, as long as you stay in the 2 far right lanes on the highway your fine, at 437 ilbs, it's just 2 much to be all the way out in the fast lane, but if you stay even with your throttle hand and stay under 70 mph, I average 72 miles per gallon consistently, i've put just over 21,000 miles in the 1 1/2 i've owned it an have logged over 33,00 miles in the 3 1/2 years as a rider on 3 other Scoots, sitting around playing good patient wasn't working for me so against Doctors advice, I decided that I needed something to just put my mind off of health issues and Dr Appts., and had no idea all that wind therapy 2 wheeled life would give to me... anyone who has an issue with Scooter riders is just ignorant, as you said the rest of the world knows how great these machines can be, my insurance with a perfect driving record is 99.00 a year and almost zero maintenance other than oil changes and seasonal antifreeze flush for the hot summer months, whatever you choose, just go Touring Maxi Scoots, not that smaller Bikes aren't fun, but you'll end up going big anyway eventually,lol!!! so save some coins an get it from jump... D~!

    A few years ago we did a scooter tour in Tuscany for 5 days. Based in Florence, with Edelweiss tours. SO fun. We had a Piaggio MP3 wheeler 400 cc, our friend had the 500 and one guy had the Suzuki Burgman 650 and another Gilera 850. NOT your typical 49 cc scooters. Haha. Also, the tour guide had the Piaggio Beverly 300....it was really fast!! I LOVED the PIaggio 400....I guess not available in US now. But the 500 is for $9199 it seems a real bargain and I am thinking of selling my Kawasaki 1600 cc Vulcan and getting a Piaggio. I hear Yamaha has a TriCity 300 cc 3 wheeler also. Glad to see more 3 wheelers coming to market, as I am almost 60 and not getting younger. Yamaha has the cool Niken 3 wheeler, 900 cc, but $17,000 for the GT model. So many decisions!

    Currently riding a Yamaha Smax. 155cc and it's dangerous between 0 and 45mpg. It is freeway legal and I do take in on the freeway quite often. I can maintain 65-70mph with ease, but for passing power; its non-existent. I average about 85mpg and I weigh 255lbs. Its the first off the line at any light on any sides street, but lacks in power on the freeway; it can keep up, but that's about it. If you commute in the city or urban, this IS the bike you want. For freeway riding, go for something stronger. Zero to 40 is fast as you want to go. I've never had a car pass me off the line. Been riding this bike in San Diego and Los Angeles. Its PERFECT for these environments. So easy to park and navigate through stopped traffic. Get there faster and stay Upright!

Unless money is not an issue, check the maintenance schedule for what ever brand you are thinking of. You, and, for that matter, the manufacturers ignore the most important feature that makes a scooter comparable to a motorcycle, and that is rim size. Scooters need a minimum rim size of 16 inches in order to be comparable to a motorcycle in ride and appearance. Taiwanese SYM and Kymco understand this, but Japanese makers just don't get it. Instead, the Japanese offer us (Americans) bulky jet skis on little wheels. Japanese scooters look dated after 5 years.

      @@automotiveterritory Most people say kymco, but it's actually 光陽機車, which is pronounced guāng yáng jī chē, or gwahng yahng jee chuh. Keep in mind that the "jee" is to be sharper sounding than usual and "ah" is to be said as in "ah, I forgot my wallet!" So the hybrid sound between short a and short o. This is hard to pronounce for foreigners, because of the times that are nonexistent in any other language that I know of.
