Our Progress on Building off grid on the Big Island

It has been winter here in Hawaii, which means lots of rain and cool weather. We share some updates on building our house in the middle of the rainforest. We also travel to Kona, explore the longest lava tube in the world, and spend time hiking and exploring the National Park.

Good luck with the build! Enjoy the grand adventure! We lost the home we built in Kapoho in the 2018 Lava flow but have no regrets. We have great memories of the build and sharing the experiences of Puna with so many friends and family.

Awesome video man! You show so many cool places, I'm excited that I'll finally be moving there in a month or so. I'm just waiting to get the FAVN test for my dog, so I can bring her. Bringing a dog to Hawaii is expensive haha! I'm gonna be in Fern Forest living in the woods, I can't wait!

Your house permitted? I live on Kauai and been in Hawaii for 30 years and dealt with big island building department on a work project and can’t say it was a pleasant experience. Hopefully you built to withstand a earthquake/hurricane.
