I don't know that I would go so far as to feel cheated, but I find it really interesting that HS was always adamant about not going after guests. That he would never go begging for people to be on the show. That he was above that. That he wouldn't grovel for appearances. That publicists and stars would come to him if they wanted on the show. And this video completely undermines that impression.
Clearly they've been going after guests all along, and he felt the need to ramp up that effort even more in 2013. I mean, I get it. This is a business, with a tremendous financial investment, and a business predicated on solid guests (once he pivoted off throwing bologna on mayonnaise covered asses LOL!). But it is certainly eye-opening to see him rant like this to his staff, presumably unaware that anyone was recording with the intent to release.

I was dating a girl in 2013 that was a CPA that was close to Sirius radios finances, and we had some very confidential pillow talk about Sirius big financial problems. Sirius reached a point where they determined radio was not going to be another media that a majority of Americans would be paying a monthly fee for, like Americas did with Cable television and it changed the focus of the Sirius financiers. In 2008 we had a major recession and Sirius radio spent that following five years treading water before trying to make it back to shore. Since most Americans we're doing horribly financially, the first thing to cancel was Sirius radio. A bigger problem that happened was that it was a time when everybody and everything was cutting back and even if you had the disposable income to afford a monthly luxury item like Sirius, it was actually out of style to do so. Sirius felt the full force of this negative financial change and Howard knew that if something wasn't done quickly he was going to be ending his career with shame and failure with only himself to blame because of all of the changes and decisions he made prior, and this is what bothered him the most, my source informed me. During his speech you can sense the panic, and he actually slips up and saids, if this doesn't work, you’ll all be looking for a job.

As I believe Tim S. once mentioned, the HSS had an unwritten formula that made it so great. Howard was simply a moderator amongst the office staff, Robin, Fred, comics, callers. Sure some content was "manufactured", but the best parts of the show were just stupid interesting things happening that Howard would decide to latch onto (at least from the audience's perspective). The fact that it didn't seem structured and tightly organized was what everyone enjoyed. Artie or Benjy could stumble into the studio late, Howard entertained it. Scott S. didn't test a mic, let's spend 15 minutes on that. Riley calling to bitch for an hour about a contract, Howard entertained all of it. And this is basically saying throw all of that in the dumpster and light it on fire like it did nothing for him or his staff. Absolutely insane.

      Very astutely put.
Howard was never a "funny guy"... though he has had his moments over 40 years...
He was more of a moderator... or wrangler... or coach of a team full of GENUINELY funny people.
When THAT dynamic left the show, so did 75% the comedy... all we had left were Sal and Richard's prank calls and bits.
And those two remain literally the ONLY funny members of the staff to this very day.

Howard should have given it up years ago. He’s officially a has-been. I think Howard enjoyed success for so long that he became convinced anything he touches turns to gold. His show no longer offers people anything they can’t easily find elsewhere. When I listened to HS on a daily basis, it wasn’t just for him. Rather it was for the entire circus and cast of characters. These days it’s just him, Robin and a few others. People didn’t listen to Howard just for him, rather for the entire circus which packed up and left town long ago. Basically, it’s a total bore. Finally, part of Howard’s appeal on terrestrial radio was his underdog persona. He was always fighting with his radio station and other radio stations. He was always fighting back against the FCC and trying to stick it to the man. These days, Howard is the man. He’s become everything he hated. I don’t see how he’s still on the air anywhere. Stern did help him get a little attention, but his interview on Stern showed him he could do well on the interview circuit again, and he started hitting more shows to talk about his dad and his wrestling obsession. Honestly I thank Howard for everything: especially the Artie years. Not engaging or interesting now but man, when I am needing a laugh, turn to old Howard. Thank you.

Revolution? There’s absolutely ZERO revolution here. This is the precise opposite of revolutionary.

Wow! I spent 30 years in corporate American and I never experienced anything as disgusting as this. Back in the day, he would be mocking the shit out of this. Wow, he's become that guy!

If you were intelligent you would know he was always this guy. He was just pandering to his target audience for 20 years to get the ratings. Ratings equals advertisements. Advertising equals Stern’s paycheck.
