Hj60 turbo diesel cold start

  • 10 degree f, cold start of a Toyota diesel with a 2h engine and home grown turbo. Looks like the alternator was making some weird noise upon startup. Some whirring noise of sorts. Anyhow, still going strong...

    In cold weather you should wait around 10 more seconds after the glow light goes out. The light is not an indicator of what the plugs are doing. They stay energized after that light goes out.

      No. What he did was correct. The light is a wait indicator, when it goes out you can start.

      @@smitty4321 Military grade gear is right, with certain vehicles anyhow...usually more modern diesels.

    That noise on start-up could also be your power steering pump.
