  • In this episode, I tear down the 350x engine, and explained why it blew up and the damaged it caused, then I rebuild it and only after I finish do I learn it still has a catastrophic problem. PART 2

    Thanks so much for these videos.!! really ! I'm building a 350x now from parts.. complete engine teardown. It's my first time doing anything like this or any type of engine work and your videos for this machine have been so helpful !! Subscribed ! It's really cool that you do these videos and create this library for hacks like me. Ignore the trolls.

    Determining why an engine failed is where the mechanics don't help themselves. I've seen motors from a 220 Bayou to a 900 twin from a SXS get the parts replaced and after a short time, it let go again. I found out about that 350d top end swap a few years ago but usually the hot shoes want every last bit of power for speed and bragging rights, not budget reality. Fantastic vid, I'm guessing you've spoken to the Dali Llama or meditate to remain so calm when thing goes wrong!

    Another great video - one great thing about living in the Arizona desert - I have bought several ATCs, VWs and other cars that spent their lives in AZ and no rust. My most recent 200x I bought sat in the sun for 20 years. Faded and cracking plastics and seat, but zero rust.

    Hey it happens I built a rm80 engine split cases and all the good stuff the crank bearings were packed in grease for shipping and storage purposes I think but either way I never cleaned it off the new bearings and when the engine warmed up it blew a crank seal when the grease hydrauliced also made a mess inside the case's lol lots of fun learning that's what it's all about

    Look into time sert repair kits for the plug repair. they work great! i use them a lot, they are 100x better then a helicoil

  • @phil463
    @phil463 Před 2 lety +2

    For future reference, a heli coil is NOT your only option. Small engine guys actually will turn their old spark plugs into a tap and fix the threads. donyboy73 did a video of how to do it years ago, and it has worked like a charm for me, and many others as well. I would suggest finding the video BUT what they do is (BTW, he learned this trick from a car racer) they cut "tap grooves" into the threads of the old plug with a hacksaw or whatever, then screw it down into plug with (grease on threads to catch any shavings) and voila, you have a rethreaded, fixed stripped spark plug hole

    I can't believe after overhauling that engine that the kick start is still stiff. It's almost like something is out of alignment or something simple that's binding. Sorry to see you go through all that and start over again, man I hate doing that myself, I know what it feels like. Hopefully the problem shows up.

    • @mrcbuilds
      @mrcbuilds  Před 2 lety +1

      I'm thinking it's an alignment issue in the trans.

  • @timothyburrier6684
    @timothyburrier6684 Před 10 měsíci +1

    So I had a 86 would start 2 kicks every time when cold. Would run fine. If I shut it off it would start for shit when hot or even warm. It wasn't running lean or rich. Got to the point I just sold it broke my heart. It was rebuild at a honda shop. No one could figure it out. That was 4 years ago and I still loose sleep over it. Anyone have this issue before. Searched 3ww and the rest of internet never found a warm start issue. I tried cdi swaps idk. It just sucked

    • @mrcbuilds
      @mrcbuilds  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Hi Timothy, I would start with a the coil and the stator, heat affects both of these items. The next time you have a hot start issue, take voltage readings when the unit it hot and again when its cold. Heat issue can be tricky, a compression test would rule out the engine, and bit of starting fluid would rule out the carb and fuel delivery, this only leaves electrical.

    Was the wrist pin wear from the piston slap that was from the difference in piston size an sleeve size ? An I wonder if bearing was locked up on the kicker shaft or there's chunks of teeth in the cases. An are you changing out the crank bearings since you have it open ? Never had a 350 but had a quite a few of the 200s the 250x was my favorite you could throw that thing around like nothing the 350 was quite a bit heavier lol. I also miss my xr200. I love Hondas my self as well. I also love the 80s an 90s stuff better then the new stuff. Don't get me wrong fuel injected is nice an all but the nostalgia of the older stuff is awesome.
