Almost everytime Maradona played we got to see the two faces of football. Firstly we marvelled at the sorcery and brilliance of Diego and then secondly the ugly, nasty side of football where he was subjected to the most brutal of fouls. He was unstoppable unless he was hacked down. He often carried on after the first and second fouls. He got little or no protection from referees. Shameful that the brightest star ever to illuminate the game had to suffer such abuse on the pitch. RIP Diego Maradona.

Without any gym training, without any outrageous physicality he was super fit and was able to take those tackles....all this happen because of his love towards this game.... They only went to one semifinal ( I think in 2018) and from 2016-2022 they only reached kwarter finals. The worst result was in 2020-2021 with only reaching the last 16 WITH Messi there during the whole season. In fact: all the results till 2021 were with Messi. But Xavi and a few years later Iniesta went.
When we look at La Liga results the worst was in 2020-2021 (3rd) with Mess ,orst in 12 yearsi. The year after it was second without Messi. During the height of his career (2009-2021) second place was not uncommon, so his departure has had no influence on that result either. It seems that 2015 was a turning point internationally and that is the year that Xavi Hernandez left. So the tandem Iniesta Xavi was gone and it seems a plausible effect.

Taking cocaine, not caring about his body, playing with injuries that weren't healed yet. He gave advantage and was the best even in those conditions. He was only in good physical condition before the world cups because that's what counts. Many have said he cheated. He did two or three times but let's count how many times he was cheated by rivals, referees and FIFA... the result would be 35-3 on Maradona's favour. Many people claimed the he won the world cup with a hand ball. Remember he was the most fouled player by far in Spain82, Mexico86 and Italy90, in fact, he the most fouled player ever. Against Brazil in Spain the game was 1-0 for Brazil and he was denied a clear penalty from Junior. Only the first half of the game against Italy is a undeniable fact of what I'm saying. Every country need 11players to lift world cup, but Argentina need only single man to lift world cup, and that man is DIEGO ARMANDA MARADONA "GOD OF FOOTBALL "

I could not bear to watch after 3 tackles. The defenders were trying to maim him

But still, those who think Messi or Pele are better will continue to believe that they were better than Maradona.

These are not tackles..these are assault, today best of the best players would really struggle in Maradona's era and Maradona in today's era would simply butcher and annihilate any opponent.

Bro, you are so right. In sports you are only as good as the opponent allows.
Maradona in 80s was nearly unstoppable despite of brutal attacks and lack of referee-protection. In current football Maradona would be literally unstoppable.

Don't forget fifa destroyed him in 94 world cup. Argentina had the best squad in 94. Fifa needs football, football doesn't need fifa!

Diego Armando Maradona - that is the name of the best ever. No one ever played the game the way he did.
