Are you sure the council of a borough has the authority to offer a place of a school in other borough?
If you are applying for the main rounds of secondary transfer (i.e. Year 7) and you have not missed the deadline of the main rounds application (i.e. October 31 while the child is still in Year 6), then you can put whichever borough's schools onto your application form. The schools you are applying for will allocate places according to their published admissions criteria. For example, if their criteria is distance, then they will allocate places to applicants in ascending order of distance (i.e. the closest gets the place first), regardless of whether you live within their borough or not. However, if you are applying for in-year place 插班, your borough do not have authority to allocate in-year places of another borough's secondary schools to you. What your council can do is only to refer your application to the other council and see what they can do. In any event, the allocation of in-year places still depends on the availability of places in the school year that you are applying for. If places do become available, they would be allocated to the people on their waiting list in accordance with their published criteria. Hope this has made clear for you.

It's very rare that an address is very close to the school but out of catchment, because catchment is normally very close to the school. As for the priority of admission criteria, you will need to refer to individual school's admission policy.
Not all councils would publish a vacancy list because this kind of list would need constant updating. Honestly, I don't think the council is able to update it constantly. You may check the School Admissions page of each council to see if they publish a vacancy list online. But the best way is still to send emails to individual schools to check.

Yes, you are right. Your son will be in Year 5 this September, and Year 6 in Sep 2021. Therefore, he will be able to take part in Secondary School Admissions Process . And if you want him to try grammar school, your family needs to arrive in UK by June 2021, so that he can register for the Grammar School admissions test.
Children not going to school is criminal offence in UK. Local council may impose a fine or prosecute you. You may go to jail. So don't wait too long to send your children to school. BNO visa also states your visa may be revoked for breaking the law. Think seriously before coming for children's education. Most state schools are equal to HK band 2 at best. Not all grammar schools are equal. The good grammar schools receive many thousands of applications for a places. English children go to tutorials for +11 exam at least two years before the exam. Waiting lists are long for good grammar (& state) schools and so so grammar will have places for in year admission. +11 exam are difficult even for English kids. If your kids English is not top of their HK school and they have good language skills then +11 will be very difficult. Good luck!
For in year application, is there any restriction to apply for year 11 (my son will finish year 10 before moving to UK). On the other hand, my son has selected year 10 subjects to study in HK. Can he continue these subjects in year 11 of UK school offered? Is they any restriction in this area? Thanks
As long as the school has a place available in Year 11 and your son has passed any entrance assessment (normally applicable to grammar schools only), a place will be offered to your son at that state school. You may wish to check with the school in advance to see whether the subjects your son wishes to study are available at that school. On the other hand, your son may need to study subjects which he might not have chosen in Hong Kong but might be required at some UK schools, such as MFL (Modern Foreign Languages like French or Spanish).

SIXTH FORM 係要向每間學校叩門的. 但因為沒有GCSE 成績作參考, 不知道學校會如何決定. 另外有16+的COLLEGE, 亦有提供另類課程, 我會整一集介紹下. 仲有, 仲可以報讀私校的GCSE 一年課程, 考番個GCSE, 咁就報學校會容易啲.

其實有關BNO holder 的dependants在英國讀大學是交local student fee or international student fee, 現在還未完全清楚。不過, 一般情況下, 英國的大學對於未有永居身分的人, 會收 international student fee, 而英國宣佈BNO holder要住滿五年才能申請永居。 因此, 若以此推論, BNO holder 及其dependants 要住滿五年, 並成功申請永居的身分後, 就能以local student 身分交大學學費。確實情況, 仍需等待英國公佈詳情。

想問吓如果十一月到步miss 咗升中派位申請，是否可申請late submission? 如果孩子在中學派位申請時是讀丫6，但未找到丫6時可否在找到地方後即申請個中學派位先呢？
填中學派位表和填小學插班申請表係無衝突的, 不需要先有Y6 位才能填中學申請表. 至於能否在11月交表時仍能跟10月底前交表的申請同時得到處理, 則視乎個別 council 的做法, 以我所知, 至少有一個 council 係可以接受11月交表仍當準時處理, 只要您證明到您遲交表的原因係情有可原(剛搬到該區).

由於英國的學校和local council 均要求申請人及其家庭需要於遞交申請表時,就已經在所申報的地址上居住, 否則的話, 當局有權拒絕以所申報的地址為派位的依據. 況且, 太早申請插班亦無意思, 因為多數情況下, 您會於2個星期至3 個星期內就收到插班派位通知,並需盡快到所派學校註冊入學, 否則當放棄學位論.

您講得咁, 有些 地區的中學插班係經 council, 有些地區則有不少的中學插班係直接搵學校申請, 所以如果您想降一年咁讀,最好就係搵果啲自己決定插班收生的中學來問, 比較直接. 您去一些council 的in year admissions 版面, 就會知道該區有哪些學校係要直接向學校申請插班的.

其實情況真係好難估計, 雖然一般來說, 學生退學會在完成一個學年時退, 亦即係9月時會有多的位置, 但因為公校退學係零成本, 所以亦不能作定論, 加上可能同時間有很多港人一齊搵學位, 因此學位必然出現緊張.

首先Grammar Schools有插班空缺的情況非常少見, 我建議您在來英國前一個月send email 問下學校有無某年級的位, 學校可能會(1)直接答無位, 唔洗唸; (2) 叫您填表, 將您孩子個名放waiting list, 有位先叫您來參加入學試.

我的小朋友今年K2(10月才4歲), 想參加來年UK的小學派位, 所以要在2021年1月中前要入紙council。
所以我和太太估計要她一個人在11月或12月到英國找租盤。 但要一個女人走到英國當有有憂慮, 而且她沒有車牌。我則因工作關係未能陪她到英國, 而且家中有小朋友要照僱。
除了此個計劃, 我們還想了另一個方法， 就是請letting agent 代我們找租盤，租到樓然後入紙council。
我們明白當中隔海租樓的風險, 但更加想知道 此方法可行嗎, 如果可行, 我們就想辦法去控制減低呢個方法的風險

明白您要面對的掙扎. 但我亦要按事實去解釋一下. 這兒申請學校所用的住址要求, 係需要孩子及家長已經在所申報的地址上居住, 否則, 若被查出所用地址並非家庭的主要住址, 就會被取消用該地址來作為派位之用, 嚴重者更有可能被當局採取法律行動. 雖然係網上報名, 但COUNCIL 亦有方法去核實所用地址是否家庭住址. 所以, 其實最理想的做法,係帶孩子來租屋後, 用該地址報學校. 有一些COUNCIL 會接受在截止報名後的一個月報名, 只要解釋到及證明到剛剛搬進英國住就可以了. 最好係double check 您將會住的那區的brochure, 看看如何就這方面定細則.
第二, 其實若然錯過了小學派位, 亦不用太懊惱, 因為這兒的公立小學普遍質素不會相差很遠, 中學派位比小學派位所帶來的影響較大. 小學遲咗來, 要申請插班的話, 亦不會太複雜, 必定有學位派給您.

好多中學的GCSE 和A LEVEL 都有提供音樂科為選修科的.
呢度大學讀音樂有兩類, 一類為學術型, 即係去大學讀, 入學條件跟一般大學相若, 但可能會要求A LEVEL 有讀MUSIC, 或已考了GRADE 8 MUSIC THEORY. 第二類係音樂學院的課程, 入學條件係要通過AUDITION, 即係要表演. A LEVEL 成績並不重要, PASS 就OK, 唔洗要A或B.

請問中學插班，住址是否不一定要近心儀中學，到最後如果心儀中學派不到學位才由LA 跟據住址遠近派位，是這樣理解嗎？如果小兒出年九月一日是14歲，請問需要何時寫電郵給各學校呢？謝謝🙏🏻
當然住得近的話, 您在Waiting List 上的位置都會較前, 如果能住去一區有比較多的好中學, 咁樣就會安心啲. 其實插班只需在您需要果個學位之前的1 至2 個月問就可以了, 因為太早問到時情況都有變. 最好係未放暑假之前就已經到埗, 咁就可以在放暑假前入紙插班學校.

是的, 幾乎所有中學都會要求學生修讀一科Modern Foreign Language, 其實都幾有用呀, 而且有一些英語詞彙都係來自其他歐洲語言, 如cul-de-sac 死胡同, croissant 牛角包, 係來自法語. 在英國最多人學的歐洲語言係法語. 不過, 最易學的係西班牙語和德語. Year 8其實唔算好遲開始學外語，唔洗擔心，孩子會追到的。
Children not going to school is criminal offence in UK. Local council may impose a fine or prosecute you. You may go to jail. So don't wait too long to send your children to school. BNO visa also states your visa may be revoked for breaking the law.
Think seriously before coming for children's education. Most state schools are equal to HK band 2 at best. Not all grammar schools are equal. The good grammar schools receive many thousands of applications for a places. English children go to tutorials for +11 exam at least two years before the exam. Waiting lists are long for good grammar (& state) schools and so so grammar will have places for in year admission. +11 exam are difficult even for English kids. If your kids English is not top of their HK school and they have good language skills then +11 will be very difficult.

For in year application, is there any restriction to apply for year 11 (my son will finish year 10 before moving to UK). On the other hand, my son has selected year 10 subjects to study in HK. Can he continue these subjects in year 11 of UK school offered? Is they any restriction in this area? Thanks
As long as the school has a place available in Year 11 and your son has passed any entrance assessment (normally applicable to grammar schools only), a place will be offered to your son at that state school. You may wish to check with the school in advance to see whether the subjects your son wishes to study are available at that school. On the other hand, your son may need to study subjects which he might not have chosen in Hong Kong but might be required at some UK schools, such as MFL (Modern Foreign Languages like French or Spanish).
