I'm a vet technician by trade. I'm always glad to see a Wolfhound show up at the practice, I've honestly never had one give me a hard time. They're fine animals.

Interesting that the historical pre-Victorian observations of Irish people mentions their large stature. It seems in later generations, post famine, the near universal idea of the Irish Phenotype is one of small and slight depiction. It's almost like those first cultural encounters of the starved masses from Ireland all around the Anglo-sphere in the mid-19th century created a cultural perception of the Irish that still exists to some extent.

I have Irish wolfhounds for 15 years!
They are brave they will not start trouble, but if your looking for trouble they will lay down their life for their family! They have a keen sense of if strangers mean to start trouble, and will position themselves as to let that person know that he the Irish wolfhound is watching you the stranger

Would they be good as a family guard as well as livestock guard such as sheep beef? Lately, I have been fascinated with kangals, but forgot all about wolfhounds and Greatdanes.

@@jimlacy9963 the wolfhound has a natural instinct to chase other animals and likes to play round, it would have to be raised around other animals so the wolfhound and the live stock know each other!
My wolfhounds likes to chase my horse across the field, the first time this happened it shocked me and by the time I got out to the field the horse was chasing him around the field.
Then I noticed that they were taking turns chasing each other around, so they were playing!
But other animals if they didn’t know each other could get scared and run into something trying to escape! So the short answer is yes but with training!

Very interesting video fair play, a beautiful madra with a rich history no doubt🐺, however I always feel sad that we continue to pure breed/inbreed so many animals for our human centric use or aesthetic preference, even though this is causing so many of the individual animals plenty of debilitating/painful inherent health issues.☘ While massive numbers of unwanted mixed breeds are often less desirable an thus put down in shelters frequently.🌅

The original irish wolfhound went extinct and looked more like a mastiff

They were bulkier but not like mastiffs, more like shepherds dogs.
