God bless the Coast Guard and all who serve in her! My uncle served in the Coast Guard in WWII, fighting the Japanese. For those youngsters out there, yes, the Coast Guard fought the Japanese in the Pacific. He was transferred from his ship to another one during that war. A month later his old ship was used as bait for the Japanese and it was sunk with all hands..... Your sacrifices are not forgotten!

Maybe someone can clear this up for me? I'm studying military music and symbols, and for the Coast Guard march, there are a number of versions, including the original (circa 1927), a 1943 rewrite, including a verse which (understandably) refers to the Axis and World War II actions:
"From North and South and East and West
The Coast Guard's in the fight.
    Busting subs and landing troops
    The Axis feels our might.
    For we're the first invaders
    On every fighting field.
From Arctic zone to tropic shore
    You'll find our Silver Shield."
The first line of the 1927 Chorus was changed from “We're always ready for the call,
We place our trust in Thee, to “So here's the Coast Guard marching song/We sing on land or sea,” in 1943, and once again in 1969, in which the first line of each chorus was changed from to ”From North and South and East and West/The Coast Guard's in the fight.” Yet the current version,( circa?) is back to: “We're always ready for the call/We place our trust in Thee.” All of these versions, along with the background to the writing of the song and the author, Captain Francis Saltus Van Boskerck, are posted on the Coast Guard’s website, but there seem to be timeline discrepancies there. Additionally, I’ve never heard any of the versions posted on CZcams include the verse that is in all of the versions posted on the Coast Guard Website:
    SURVEYOR and NARCISSUS,
    The EAGLE and DISPATCH,
    The HUDSON and TAMPA,
    These names are hard to match;
    From Barrow's shores to Paraguay,
    Great Lakes or ocean's wave,
The Coast Guard fights through storms and winds,
    To punish or to save.
So it’s a bit confusing. A number of the songs I’ve heard seem to be a combination of those versions, with some subtly creative additions/changes.
Regardless, it’s a stirring march, and I’m everlastingly grateful that we have such a proficient Coast Guard, every time I go sailing or am out on a boat, and every time I see them make one of those impossible saves. They go in anywhere to save lives, and they’re awesome. With love, Namaste, Pam

No doubt changed to be politically correct. Sinking German Submarines trying to sink convoys and stop the flow of supplies to the UK and our Russian allies isn't acceptable today.

Not to be a nitpicker, but the word is spelled NAVIGATE, not NAGIVATE.
