How Chief's new armor introduction "REALLY" should have gone.

  • Remake of, well my most popular video on my channel using an ACTUAL classic chief model from the halo 4 mythic overhaul mod. Been wanting to remake this with a proper classic chief ever since I made the first one and finally found the time (and remembered) to do it.
This is by no means a proper way to have the armor be swapped, but given what is in the game and the scenes in it this spot makes the most logical sense for the swap to occur.
    Anyways, enjoy!

The flashback scenes showing the Spartans wearing Chiefs new suit was very odd. Like we all know the Spartans all wore the same thing with minor, literally minor differences. Jorge was probably the most modified Spartan 2 at the time and Halsey even acknowledges that in Reach, "What have you done with my armor?". I like the idea that Johnson brought Chief a backup Mjolnir on the Forward Unto Dawn, and due to significant damage to the Mark VI, Cortana would replace it using machines while Chief is in cryosleep. Make it a customized set of armor by Johnson, almost like a final gift. After all, he knows what the ladies like. They should have just called it a Mk VII prototype.

Never did like the armor for H4, that shield goes down and all you've got is huge weak points and sweet spots to really make sure these Spartans die a horrible death. At least Bungie had all the bases covered so the enemy had to work for those hits. 343's idea could've been a light armored scout variant, but even then they were already fast which just goes back to why? There's not even a cool factor for that downsized copy

    • @alcatraz3400

Actually the H3 armor has tons of weak points and pointless pieces of armor (the hand areas not protecting knuckles, the neck/abdomen exposed, shoulders not making him move correctly and so on) the H4 design rectifies absolutely everything, making the master chief more agile and able to move, while protecting actual vital points (and yes the armored « trunks » in the previous suits is not relevant at all)

Most of the older MJOLNIR is filled with vulnerabilities, notably in the waist, arm joints and neck. Spartans are the infantry equivalent of a tank, so they deserve to be armored as such. I love the armor for 4, but I agree with the sentiment that it shouldn't have been swapped out so willy-nilly. Nanomachines doesn't explain much, nor do they do much explaining on Chief's magical ONI built suit in H5.

I think an interesting way to handle it would have been to have the pre-Infinity section have Chief have noticeably lower combat performance, with the justification that the Mark VI suit is suffering a combination of pre-existing damage left over from the events of Halo 2 and 3 with Cortana being unable to perform any maintenance on the suit during the years Chief was in cryo. After making contact with the Infinity, there's a cutscene where he's issued a new Gen2 suit that brings him back up to full performance.

The h4/5 armour was the best for me as it was the most ergonomic. The designs before and after limited the natural range motion in the arms and legs, the best and most recent example of this logistical issue is probably the Halo TV series. The updates version takes things like that into consideration
For instance with the Halo 1-3 (& infinite) variant, to climb/mount something taller than yourself the shoulder pads would make contact with the vents on the chest plate( in the games this is solved with clipping) at best you could do a moderate "T-pose"
343 may get a lot of flack but the design id argue, makes more sense in the real world than the bungie rendition

Seeing prometheans and covvies pushes your suit even further and to the brink of failure. Yeah, the first couple of missions in 4 should have had the old suit. After crashing down to Requiem (note, from Chief's point of view this is his second time surviving a reentry in this exact same armor in the span of a couple of weeks thanks to spending the past 4 years in cryo), the suit should have been damaged and systems failing while on approach to Infinity. Take some of the slower parts of level 2 and have the shields draining and charging or the HUD flickering on and off, the motion tracker going haywire. Something to show Chief's armor is fucked. When he gets to Infinity and they have a moment to resupply him, it's the perfect opportunity to outfit him with the brand new and shiny updated MJOLNIR armor, rather than trying to bullshit the idea that he's still wearing the same suit he's had since Cairo Station the entire time.

Flickering or discolored HUD, maybe even incorrect info at at time. Shield recharge either takes longer or won't go fully back up. No sprints and no equipment. It will coincide with the intro of the Promethean, making them more difficult to fight and more menacing. Have the Spartan 4s meet Chief and out performs him during gameplay. Having Chief on the back foot narratively would parallel his physicals vulnerability with Cortana's personal vulnerability. Then after getting to the Infinity, Chief get's the new armor. Then he get's sprints and intro to the equipment, then let the players out perform the Spartan 4s to show Chief still got it.
