A tip for those that don't have an oil needle applicator: use a wood toothpick, dipping it into the oil will cause a little drop to stick onto the tip, the drop will come off when you press the toothpick on wherever you want the oil to be. Use the same toothpick repeatedly, the oil saturates the wood and makes the oil stick onto it easier (plastic doesn't work good, oil falls off too quickly).

For a quick easy booster in emergency fire making when camping etc. Soak a bunch of toothpicks in high proof alcohol 91% or higher. Keep it in a container suitable and small enough. They will take a spark instantly let alone flame and it burns long enough to get your small twigs going

I totally agree with overtightening the pivot. I have done it myself and it is much easier to back off then to try and tighten it to where you want your knife to be.

Honestly I refuse to disassemble my folders unless absolutely necessary. Tiny screws strip too easily, and I can never get it back to exactly three way I like it. Messed up an old (but good) Gerber, but I'll try your tips to see if it will help. Thanks again y'all.

Same. If it's so bad I need to take it apart I'll send it back to Benchmade. They'll disassemble, clean it, and give it a factory edge for free.

When I got my presale Cold Steel voyager XL PE Vaquero, everybody said "Oh its not " drop shutty" ...it was all I heard "Triad sux" etc. So I shoved the pivot full of Lucas Red N Tacky #2, worked it until it felt better. Washed the grease out completely with WD40. Got all that out and then finally lubed it with SEAFOAM DEEP CREEP. On Christmas Eve 3 years ago that knife with a horrible action dropped shut slick as owl shizz on a glass door knob and hit my right index knuckle as I was closing it. I had to super glue my finger shut after pouring it full of alcohol. That knife is still right, still drops shut, still centered and its 3 feet away...looking at me funny😂😂

When I reassemble a knife I always add oil, washer, then more oil. I found that this method is a lot better in aiding the braking in of a knife and smooths the flipability of the knife.

I use it regularly. Blowing out my knives weekly keeps me from having to take them apart and do major cleanings. Every now and then I'll take a toothbrush and soap to my SAKs but using the compressed air regularly makes those cleanings a lot simpler and don't have to do them as often.

Regarding pivot adjustment, do you recommend Loctite to hold the pivot screw in the half turned loose position?
My problem is that I have a Quietcarry Waypoint and I thought the blade was a little stiff. I relubricated the pivot but realized all I needed to do was just loosen the screw slightly. One strip down video suggested to use Loctite. I only used light machine oil but I’ve ordered KPL which is coming next week.

I've been using 99% isopropyl alcohol (found in pharmacies) as a super general cleaner replacement to good old gaseline, turpentine, lighter fluid, acetone and a other stinky and dangerous products for over 6 years. It has become a workshop essential to me. It works great on removing grease and gunk on all sorts of things, especially chainsaw parts and electronics cleaning.
It evaporates ready fast and does not create a tiny rusty film on metal that I'm cleaning.

Ok I guess u could call me a newbie... but without any backlash can anyone tell me the big deal about benchmade... and or spyderco... I get a better steel but does it really make that big of a difference to say compared to one of my Ken onion crkt's... cause at the end of the day it's what fits ur hand right?

The only big thing about Benchmade is the axis... easily my favorite. As for why they are loved? I'd say just because they have a wide variety of knives in various different blade steels that appeal to a ton of different people. In my opinion it's that simple. Do what I do my man. Don't buy into hype or anything like it and just find knives that speak to you. If you love Ken onion knives buy his knives, doesn't really matter. I have a Benchmade Grip which is my personal favorite, a benchmade 940, sypderco paramilitary 2, and a ZT Emerson 0630. I've given away dozens of other knives that are popular and loved because it didn't feel right in my hands.

Do any of the Nano-oils stain polished D2?
