I have not been back since my parents and I left in 1939 to escape the war and settle in America. But if my body escaped all those years ago, my soul did not and I long for the old days and the old ways...too late now of course. And too many of my close relatives died here.

Did You have to get a license, registration, or permission to fly in Vecrīga? I'm planning to go there, but there's basically no information on Latvian websites about where you can, and cannot fly.

Riga is too empty a city where more than half of the population is Russian.
And even more so, historical buildings are poorly restored there.

Regarding the restoration quality, not sure what you mean. Sure there are few buildings that have not been restored for decades but if the owners won't do this, nobody can force them. That's the magic of private property.

A wonderful country with a corrupt and vile government. It’s probably worse only in Lithuania. Or Estonia. However, all of these are former lands of the Russian Empire. There is something to think about. Everything has its time.
