I felt pain when I saw them get hurt and became so full of spite when the other monkeys laughed and refused to let the perspective protagonist and the others join them to stay warm.(end of spoiler) It's such an interesting concept that was executed so well!!! I know some animals with high levels of intelligence have different social structures to those of humans and that we can't judge animals the same way we can judge people, but this animated short shows that animals can evolve to the point of showing cruelty and kindness. Harrowing and painful to watch.
The symbolism (if you will) at the end was heartbreaking yet incredibly powerful. It's amazing to view media through the eyes of an animal, let alone in a species controlled by a harsh social hierarchy. It's refreshing, and I could feel the pains and emotions that the protagonist and their' fellow monkeys felt. Otherwise, I'm speechless; what a film.
The brilliant score, ambiance and FX added amazingly to the surrealistic animation and beautiful environment design. I admire your work, and the level of quality you produce. Lower ranking females and their babies are sometimes not permitted to bathe with the higher ranking individuals. Not every troop is this extreme (especially in designated area's specifically set aside for the monkeys), but there have been documentations of outsiders freezing to death, possibly due to their position in the hierarchy (or maybe other reasons we couldn't see).
Obviously we can interpret more than just animal behavior from this amazing animation, but saying this "isn't real" is simply false. Check out some video's of them bathing in pools! You can really see how astoundingly realistic this animation actually is, and maybe learn yourself something.

One thing people need to know about this beautiful film is that NO IT IS NOT TYPICAL. I spent 3 days and 2 nights at the exact location in this film, Jigokudani Monkey Park. It is the only place in the world where the monkeys live above the snow line all year, as they can use the hot springs to warm up. The springs are plentiful and not so crowded that dominant monkeys need to guard them. In fact, the inn I stayed at there has its own hot spring which the monkeys of course do not respect...I used it together with the monkeys every day! They are very intelligent and not savage as depicted here, you simply have to respect their signals of dominance, meaning don't hold eye contact. Older males often help caretake the babies of the troop, and they are all very playful, rolling snowballs and playing games together. While they do sometimes play rough, I never saw a single instance of an adult threatening a baby, or of one of the troop members being turned away from warmth. This is a wonderfully animated story, but it's JUST a story.

Merci ! Alors le making of arrivera bientôt sur notre page Facebook ! Tu peux déjà y trouver pleins de dessins de pré production ainsi que des photos de la fabrication pour mieux comprendre l'envers du décors ;)
