OMG !!! Born singer was released unofficially in 2013 about a month after they debuted. It is adopted from J Cole's Born Sinner. The lyrics were written by RM, Suga and J Hope. For me it's a heartbreaking song even today when they are the kings of the world. The difficulties and obstacles they went through are unbelievable and they still believed, dreamed and achieved what those who criticized and despised them can only dream of. I have been hearing this song and watching this live performance countless times over the years and I still cannot make it through without sobbing. The fact that JHope got to collaborate with his muse JCole on "On the Street" AND they got permission from JCole to have this rendition of "Born Sinner" through this song "Born Singer" on their latest anthology album: PROOF....is simply beautiful. 😭💜🎶

@catdaragon8028 I don't know exactly the story behind his stage name, but it's definitely a combination of:
-J for his last name: Jung
-HOPE: our sunshine Hobi...if hope was a person, that would be Jhope. Hope was that last thing out of Pandora's Box.
-inspired by his muse: JCole hence his name JHope, including naming his first mixtape "Hope World" similar to Cole World (also included in the lyrics for "Hip Hop Lover" aka "Hip Hop Phile")
-Man's a genius for tying everything into what's now his official album: Jack in the Box (Hope Edition I got few days ago. 😀) Bless Hobi for gifting us a physical copy! 💜
@@classical7 In a car while they were going somewhere, Hobi told of choosing his stage name, how he talked it over with Bang PD and/or others. He told them he wanted the "J" from Jung, and he wanted to include the "ho" syllable from his name Hoseok. And somehow "j-hope" came out of that discussion. It really appealed to him, because he wanted his music to lift people up, he said. But I think he was also consciously using the pattern of JCole's name because he held him in such high regard. I'm guessing he decided not to reveal all his personal reasons, but I wouldn't be surprised if people who were close to him understood it as a reference to honor JCole. 💜

Love your reaction, I know how you feel. This is my favorite version of this song. It was fairly early in their career so the feelings were raw. I still get tears in my eyes every time I hear it. It's also a prime example of how well all their voices meld together. Their timing is unsurpassed. And Jungkook, what can I say. He was so young and already flying so high.

This was the first BTS song that made me cry. Their passion, their fire, their journey backed my some of the most lyrical rap and intense vocals just struck me hard. It's nice to see I am not the only one. This song encapsulates everything that makes me love them so much.

I get emotional hearing Jin's beautiful voice singing, "I'm a born singer, perhaps it's an early confession, but I'm so happy I'm good." He hadn't planned on being a singer. He had to learn after he was grown up. He was afraid he held back his group. He thought he wasn't good enough. But over the years he worked hard. He developed a beautiful voice*, and has written lyrics and music. And when BTS gave a concert in Japan, he sang Epiphany and was the only solo singer to get a standing ovation. 💜
* Edit: Jin had a beautiful voice from the beginning, but he worked with a voice coach to train and refine it.

It is so beautiful. I had no idea it existed until Proof came out and I had been deep diving BTS for over a year by that point.

Although this is based on Born Sinner, they changed the words to their own touching version. It took a very long time to get J Cole’s permission to release this but eventually we got it on their Proof album. They’ve updated the lyrics over the years. Their parents were at one of the performances of this so it was all very emotional. It always gives me goosebumps too. Last year J-Hope met J Cole at Lollapalooza where they were both performing. Then J Cole featured on Hobi’s On the Street. This song is so very special. Many thanks to J. Cole for this and to you two for another thoughtful reaction. 💜

I love this reaction, and I watched it multiple times. Not a reflection on you or the video, I dozed off into Dreamland for one viewing, and I just have to share that I took you both with me into a dream with BTS. We were all backstage, as multiple music groups, getting ready/waiting our turn to perform. It was an intimate venue, so we were all each other's audience as well. During the breaks we were getting to talk with BTS members, which was such a cool thing because even though they were Superstars, they were treating us as equals, struggling through the same pains and insecurities, so they were also encouraging us. I had brought a big box of various candy/snacks that I shared with all the members, and as I sat next to Jin, sharing candy, I broke out my newborn Korean skills & pointed out the maknae of our group (identity now lost in consciousness, lol, but it was impressive😉🤣). Jimin,Tae, and Suga went outside for a bit to look for cigarettes and some drinks (I think they really just wanted some air and space from so many people wanting to be close/talk with them like they weren't strangers) and came back with you both, all of you being rowdy together, having fun despite language issues. Jin stood up to give you his chair, and BTS went on stage. I came back to consciousness, and could hear them onstage while you were still talking "with me"😂😂 So I watched it again while I commented and again just so I could focus on you. This song and performance are so special to me. Sad that so much needed to be done for copyright. It looks like this was a rare reaction, not watching the medley of 2015 & 2017 performances, and not watching the 2022 performance. Each has their own special nuances of history and changes in the meaning of the "choreography", so I hope you get a chance to watch the other 2 performances for yourself at least and compare them all. The medley video, though popular, makes the changes in choreography more difficult to recognize and less impactful. I'm having so much fun watching the videos with your friend! 💜💜

You should check out the most recent performance of "Born Singer" they did in 2022 when they were in Vegas. They recorded it out in the desert (it's a live performance) and they updated some of the lyrics.

Amazing! I remember the first time I saw a Renior painting at the Art Institute in Chicago. The beauty, the colors, the subject, literally brought tears to my eyes. That's how I feel about this song. The story, each coming into their own; Jungkook, Suga, RM. J-hope,... it's a piece of artistic relevance that reverberates in the hearts of humans everywhere.
