- In this video we pitch two legendary local cars against one another, the iconic BMW (E30) 325iS "Gusheshe" and the Opel Kadett GSi "Superboss". But it's not only the cars that are legends in this video. Behind the steering wheels are none other than local racing superstars Deon Joubert and Mike Briggs, who used to race these cars in Group N in the early '90s, with Mike winning three championships in the Opel on a trot. But which car is faster in a traditional drag race? Is it the rear-wheel drive, 2.7L straight-six 145kW BMW, or the front-wheel drive 125kW, 2,0L Opel Kadett Superboss? Place your bets!

@@rezo786 Kadett GSi is a legend here in ex yugoslavia countries, it was fastest you could get in 90s and even early 00s, sadly you rarely see them nowadays.
I've always liked old Opel's.. I currently have an Opel Calibra 2.0 16v in almost perfect condition... What a beautiful car it is...

That race went exactly the how I saw it back in the day when people drag raced in Ext 5 of Ennerdale. The BM faster of the line, they disappeared into the dip then when you see them again the Boss was in front winning the race. Awesome score settlement video.

Very nearly brought me to tears thinking about these two battling it out at Kyalami in the early 90's when I was a kid.
C20XE - Still the best engine ever made by Opel.

@FuckTheWorld21 the C26 was a pile of dung compared to other straight sixes from the C family. Underpowered, not RPM-happy, less tuning potential. Aside from that, I'd say I agree with you mate

or the BMW E30 M3 vs. the Mercedes Benz Evo
all of that are great Cars and i think all Car Manufacturers build cool cars in that Time!

I used to own one off the fastest superboss in the country ,normally aspirated with a cosworth head ,balanced & blueprinted by tony james ,made 137kw on wheels on the coast,had lots fun with it,eventually modified to ts turbo,made 220 bhp,800m 214km,ph at midvaal,0di strip 257km,ph,back it up 3 times on a blistering hot day ,all this in the early 90s,

I am rebuilding my Kadett 16v at this point in time and seeing this I can not wait to get it back from paint, assemble it and drive it again. Me and my wife tried time and again to let newer cars steal our hearts, but failed to find something that gives us as much fun to drive. It may not be the best handling car, in fact, it takes quite the driver to handle it, but it is at least a car providing honest road feedback and that on its own is very pleasant. You really quite literally feel the road, for better or worse, but we love it for that!
It's very unpredictable with alot of torque steer..I had a 200i 16v Opel monza, c20xe and a coscast cylinder head..lots of fun,brutal sound.
Yeah the Kadett E is a really good car, it`s my first Car and today i have 4 E Kadetts:) I still love it the same way, newer cars can`t get that pure feeling to the driver! Make your Kadett ready for the Street and have some fun with it!!

Love the Opel kadett. I have had 5 of them over the years. Never a boring minute. Just gear down and your face gets that big smile back. To bad opel stoped making these cars and that amazing engine.

SuperBoss is a beast. Excellent vehicle and a dreamer"s dream car to own in my opinion. The BMW is a beautiful ride with an excellent look and sound. Both cars would be lovely to have.

Love that. Brings me back to my teen years when you could actually recognise roadgoing cars in Group N racing with Mike Briggs playing bumper cars with the field. Now all we need is the Uno Turbos vs Conquest RSI race. To those asking about the VR6, that was a bit of a different era, would be the E36 325i against those. Keep it up cars.co.za!

Great Race, Love both Cars but the E30 is a Legend still my favorite i had a 325i Shadowline ❤❤❤❤ back in the 90s we used to go to Dices on Sunday nights at Americano Roadhouse those years was about the BMW 325iS and the Opel SuperBoss miss those days.

This was epic, can't wait for track tests. Hands down the superboss was a killer in its time... Still very respectable in today's standards as well.
I had a Gsi in the 80's and those races at Scribante racetrack in PE where the Opels and the BMW's duked it out, brings so much memories. I was an Opel fanatic but switched over to VW .

Kadett is even faster in acceleration when the cars are already rolling, the power is so high that the wheels spin on the asphalt, that is why it loses from a standstill, when overtaking it is a pure bomb.
Downside is the opel came from the shop with rattles

@@poepflater it`s not rattles it`s character:)BMW is always better made than an Opel and it cost a lot more, but back then the Opel engines were simply an absolute power

Question was the motor of the super boss tuned to the max ? , cos u dont see much around compared to the 325is , which means most of them wore out easily

I loved this video. I am sure if Mr Briggs wasn't jumping around he would have probably launched better and opened a bigger gap. My heart always belonged to a Superboss and always will.
