This video helped me in so many interviews since it came out. I was able to secure 90% of the positions. What is interesting is the fact that i personally knew Mr. Emery 8/9 years ago. He was Chief of HR when i worked to an Int. Organisation. This man is a golden man, he represents integrity and hard work. He is the definition of what a good chief of HR should be. He is a good. Furthermore he has a very kind heart while being very professional and an excellent sense of humour. Thank you Mr Emery.

Hi Michael...it was really nice advices on competency based interviews....I myself was working with the UN for last 8 years...and had came across many of such interviews....I've completed more than 50 projects/ programmes and I'm highly competent in my field...50 projects 1000s of examples...and best at doing than talking...find myself very difficult to choose the best example...structure it in CARL format...and feel nervous esp. while interviewed online...depends on panel members as well...
I have an interview after one week for finance assistant in UN.. I m very nervous what type of question they going to ask.. Do u have any idea so i can do some preparation.
Thank you

Hi, thank you Mr Emery. I have a slightly different question. If an individual has had experience working for UN and International NGOs , however that person has had too long a break like 7 /8 years and is finally ready to get back to work, what steps can she take to get back to working for UN? Because obviously there has been many new developments with regard to technical side, so how can she catch up on that and enhance her chance to get a job offer?
great talk,

"... you don't want to come across as a nutter."
Lol... I heard that too and it didn't sound humanitarian like what you wld expect from a UN ambassador.
How will someone work in the UN and Gutters the SG is always appointing Latinos

CAR is Challenge (not Context) Action and Result, not Context, Sir......
Check the UN website and the C stands for Context
CARL Context, Action, Results, and Learning
It is inappropriate (ableist) for the head of HR of an international organization to use the term "nutter."
What an illogical statement: TO ASSES IF YOU HAVE DONE IT IN PAST YOU WILL BE ABLE TO DO IT IN FUTURE, what is this? It is obvious that of you done something in past you can do it in future. These HR procedures are really forceful to see nonsense. It should be TO ASSES WHAT MORE YOU CAN DO IN FUTURE BY JOINING X COMPANY.
Hammad Ahmed Qureshi if you have done something previously then an interviewer knows what your skills are. This interview style is to assess what you are competent in. It will allow a company to see if you have the base skills required for the role, and you can be upskilled in the future.
You cannot ask someone what they will do in the future. It provides no insight for hiring managers and there is no way of knowing if they have the ability to do what they say. You can only stand over a proven track record and that's why competency interviews are a valuable resource
Hammad Qureshi
as he pointed out the candidate who has the more relevant experience, will be able to demonstrate the first hand practical skill therefore be able to do in the future.. There was a time that Hiring Managers believed that the best candidates were the ones that have the highest qualifications.
However, this policy have been proven to be an incorrect procedure in obtaining the right candidate. Companies are now well aware that academic ability don't prove that one can apply themselves in the real world of work. It was perceived by new graduates that a degree was the "be all end all" and "its the peak on ones own endeavour" . These day its the case of establishing oneself in the area of industry of your choice from where you develop your career for 20 plus years not what you obtained in 3.
I am still wondering what happened when they dropped me only after the first webinar session in preparation for an interview.
Insightful indeed...I passed the UN interview first time...thank you so much.... everything you said came up as is...thanks...
