Nice Gold Chris I'm up in the stringer district very good gold out there but a lot of trash . It's nice when you can find an old good working area that time forgot .
I live in Japan and I'm going to try my luck here. So far the few pans I've done are negative on yellow. Next I'll be crushing some rocks to see if there is at least a small amount locked up inside. Just ordered your book on Amazon.
@@ChrisRalph - No doubt there are many significant epithermal deposits yet to be explored in Japan. Judging by some papers I've read, that country is gold rich and surprisingly under-exploited.

You are not fully correct in your geology, but close enough that I would only discuss it further with you in person (not on the internet!). Its great to finally be getting out into the field.
Hi Chris, thanks for the book and all the videos that you do I am going to subscribe to that magazine you write for. I just took some of my gold and bought a ARB element 12 V refrigerator to mount on my truck which I am currently equipping to do long expeditions out into the wilds of California. I have a cheap metal detector from big five but I am looking to purchase a better one and I am still looking at Jeff Williams suggestions and I will also check out the mine lab model. I have still not made a decision and it almost seems like I need more than onetwo or three. But the main thing is getting out there and having fun out in nature. Thanks again, You are an inspiration
Each tool has a specific job. What kind of gold? Relics? Location? Wet, dry, underwater? I own three detectors. The SDC 2300 is my favorite. Mid summer in the Creeks.

Recently moved to Nevada due to my husbands work. We are interested in going to rye patch and was wondering if it’s still worth going to metal detect? Never done it before and we would like to give it a try.
There is still gold at Rye Patch, but its been pounded and pounded by other detector operators for more than 20 years. Its not easy, but then you have to be pretty lucky to stumble on a place where finding gold is easy. I recommend joining a local prospecting club, and I also recommend exploring some of the other nearby placer areas in the same region as Rye Patch. The gpx 5000 is a very good machine, but, you are detecting after the gpz 7000. It is done! Not a spec of trash left behind. You have to focus on areas that a gpz has never been BEFORE you.

mORE Mining Products INC - I detected this spot with a GPZ prior to this trip, and found gold with the SDC 2300. In highly uneven terrain it is tough to get the big GPZ coil into tight places. No detector is perfect for all situations.
Hi Chris. I am a subscriber and enjoy your book and videos a lot and have learned tremendously. I have a question, I have seen that some prospectors, carry large guns and weapons. You don't come across as a gun toading individual, and my question is not politically motivated, I just don't want to spend money and time on getting a gun and a permit. So the question is, " is it neccessary to carry a gun while prospecting and metal Detecting?
I own a 9 mm pistol and carry it sometimes. There are a lot more snakes in AZ than in Nevada where I am. I dont carry in California when I am prospecting there because of legal restrictions.

I have two hands, why shouldn't I use 2 detectors at the same time? I could have a small coil in one hand and a large coil on the other, or a vlf and a pi. Cut and splice the sound wires so that the left ear hears only the left detector, right ear only right detector. Does anyone do this, or is it too next level?
You have to actually listen to the detector. It would be like having an in depth conversation with two people at once. Additionally some detectors interfere with each other if they are too close.

Howdy Chris, nice finds, bought the eq 800 and been out a couple of times. How can I find out where to go in Northern Nevada to legally detect for gold? Is there a book, or website or something to put all this confusing stuff together. I live in Elko and there are tons of mines around here but I have no idea how to get started. Do you know of any local prospecting or detecting clubs?
Finding good places to find gold is work and research. There is no book because locations where it is legal to go changes from week to week as people go out to stake claims over areas that were previously open. Do your research to see if there are any clubs. I dont know of any but I really have no idea what is available.

I'm currently armchair learning by watching your videos. I have your book (picked it up last night). I was thinking I should get the Minelab Gold Monster 1000 (a VLF machine) to search for gold here in Nevada (from watching some of your other videos) but then in this video, you were using the SDC 2300, which is a PI / MPF machine. Which type of detector is more suitable for Nevada soil conditions? (Which I guess is highly mineralized, as when I was hiking last week I took a magnet to the ground and came up with lots of magnetic material - more so than I ever saw in upstate New York at least.) I will be searching for nuggets.

I've not found any meteorites. There have been a very few found in the general region there where I was hunting, but very few. They are common in a few places like Gold Basin, AZ, but are generally pretty rare.
Hey I've just recently got into this mining 5 prospecting rockhounding thing quite by accident when I went to visit my daughter and Eastern Oregon right before the covid-19 and got quarantine that one turned out to be a silver mine and old one. I really love your videos let me say and I could use some assistance I've gathered some samples cuz I spent a month camping with nothing else to do some of them are quite heavy and I've done some preliminary testing but I'm in Oregon I'm really having trouble getting an essay done or a laser spectronomy. kind of hoping someone out there may be able to point me in the right direction thank you

Yes, the equinox would work, it would be more sensitive to hot rocks. There are nugget patches in many places in Southern California. GPX 5000 is a good detector, I found plenty of gold with mine but I did sell it when I bought my GPZ 7000.
@@ChrisRalph each machine has a weakness. The gpz has a blind spot, near the edge.

Depends on where you are. I chose my detector based on the situation. Some places the GM1000 better, some places the SDC2300 is better.
Come out to Arizona and I'll show you how to knock down those workings and get dozens of nuggets.

Go with the SDC, but it has no descrimination.

Yes, it would work. It would be a bit more sensitive to hot rocks, but it would work.
The detector is extremely loud in the video vs your voice. It makes it very difficult to watch through the whole video.

They have gold once in a while. Got to be careful in tossing out any rocks, but I gave this one a close examination.
That detector is noisy!
