- Three goals in the first period for the Dallas Stars left too much time left for the Colorado Avalanche to mount a come back, and that is exactly what they did.
Miles Wood potted the game winner in overtime and Alexandar Georgiev came up huge in the the OT session to give the Avs a 4-3 win and a 1-0 series lead.

I like how Shaggy mentioned the quality of the ice. I saw so many Avs players catch an edge and fall in that game. I thought the embellishment call was spot on. Manson got called for hooking and the Stars player folded like a house of cards.
I specifically mentioned how terrible it was that reminded me of playing in Tampa

That Stars home crowd is loud, probably louder than Winnipeg. Impressive but it was funny how dead silent they went after the 2nd goal, they have seen this song and dance against the Avs before lol

WHAT A GAME!!!! Wow ... I was bummed at 2 - 0 ... at 3 - 0 I was ... uhm ... more bummed ... but you know ... how many times this year have we seen this scenario? Avs have the MOST comeback wins in the league this year ... so at the start of the 2nd I was pretty calm ... I told my wife "We need one goal minimum in the second, two would be awesome." That happened and then very quickly in the third the game was tied ...
I wish this team didn't need to comeback as often as it does, but in the end I'll happily take the win. Especially when our goal of splitting in Dallas has been accomplished. Now let's steal another!!! GO AVS!

A few things, that was definitely embellishment Manson hooked hintz and hintz very clearly dives down to the ice. Second that was MIRO HEISKENEN that miles wood blew the doors off of. And third I think along with walker, Girard had an amazing game he was playing exceptional defense the whole game

That Wood penalty was almost exactly like the Josh manson one from the first round. Both were equally frustrating
Unfortunately I don't think high sticking can be a 'soft' call - they really just have to call it, so many calls are gray areas but per the book that one's black and white. You have to control your stick
Manson saving that fourth goal at the end of the 1st saves the game. Georgiev shaking it off, playing solid the rest of the way, and then absolutely standing on his head in overtime - well done. I love this team. I think my favorite observation was the announcers telling us Dallas was #2 in comeback wins this year while neglecting to mention that #1 was... Colorado. 😅

2 things 1- omg theESPN coverage is terrible I missed the 2 Stars goals in the first because they switched me back to the NYR coverage and then in the 3rd period same problem again it switched me to women’s softball ,,, really ESPN get your shit together ,,,?2nd the Avs had to adapt cause the ice was really bad , done on purpose in my opinion, all along the game pucks kept bouncing and even players falling down ,,, I get it Dallas doesn’t want the Avs skating like they can but that’s ridiculous,,, ,

I was so mad when it switched to rangers ot then it told me to switch to espnu which I don't have. Luckily they eventually switched it to espn 2 after the 1st period
I mean, if the Avs were playing the early game and went into OT you’d probably be pissed if they switched to the start of a new game. I switched to ESPN 2 and saw the whole thing.
@hotgrease swap games regionally...it isnt tough. The NFL has been doing this for decades. Leave the rangers on for the east coast, and swap to Colorado in the central through pacific time zones

Timing was the theme in post game interviews. I think the dump a cash was the game plan after 1st because of that, and the ice was calling for it. Maybe knowing they're were only using 5 defense, in long series, it just might be edge

Faceoffs were a problem this game. I don't know how much a team can improve it's faceoffs from one game to another, but maybe they can figure out who their best faceoff guys are and make sure they are out there for those important D zone faceoffs and keep Dallas from hemming them in.
This game could have easily gone to Dallas if it weren't for at least 2 masterful saves from Georgiev in OT. He really gave the team a chance to win throughout the 2nd, 3rd, and OT. That save on Seguin in OT would be the save of the playoffs if not for Bob's save against Tampa in round 1.
Miles Wood gets a lot of these breakaways with his speed, but it was nice to see him with the great finish as well. Depth scoring was lacking in this game, so it was nice to see depth scoring get that important goal. The depth scoring is really the story if you compare last season's early exit from the playoffs and this season's run.

@LockedOnAvalanche Truth, but kadri was the faceoff subject matter expert in 2022. I remember Bednar would put him out to take a faceoff, then go to the bench for a change.
Good defensive game for both sides. Dallas did a really good job in the neural zone and it was hard to break their blue line

I think the Avs seem to just stick to their game and finding success, so Band-Maid sound check is Manners as the meaning is focused on the approach to success.

The embellishment penalty was a head scratcher for me from the behind angle, but when they showed the ref's angle I understood, dudes right leg had no reason to go flying up like that
1) Can "3-0" at the end of the first really be called "a lead over the Avalanche"?
2) Has Dallas forgotten the recipe for ice, again?

I was watching the DNVR(Thank God for Eric Lacroix) watch along and there were a bunch of stars fans saying "sweep" when they were up 3-0. Lol...most didn't stick around when the Avs won the second period.

MANSON playing defense like a defender should be. No idea wtf Girard was doing on that defensive effort, chasing butterflies? Manson saved that 4th goal just like he saved the day in St. Louis in Rd 2 of 2022.

I think the late 3rd embellishment call was because the ref's knew they had to call that trip but they didn't want a PP to decide the game that late so they sent 'em both. Pure game management in my book.
Elliotte Friedman said something similar and I don't agree with that. If there's a penalty, there's a penalty. Don't make up for it by calling one on the other team when it's not there. Just look at the Rangers / Canes game. Soft cross checking call against Carolina and nothing against the Rangers. If we're calling embellishment then they would have called one on the Rangers there. And that was in OT.
NHL players definitely embelish from time to time. The embelisment penalty was fair, also could argue that Roberston embelished when Trenin high sticked him. He dove down to the ice lol
They need to find a way to play with the Lead.
Of course Georgiev would like to have the second goal back, but did nobody else notice it hit Makar's stick blade? The ESPN crew didn't seem to. It was heading low left, and immediately ramped up 3 ft and went right over his shoulder. Not Georgiev's fault.

Only 1 game but, DAL needed that 1. AVS were a bit off & had a nightmare 1st period. You get a team down 3, you have to, FINISH HIM. Losing like that in your own barn, festers ("it means, to rot"🤣) Not saying they will but, that type of momentum is what sweeps are built on. I have come to believe that anything scored on the Avs before the 2nd period is meaningless.
And I really "like" those Avs "fans" that crucified Georgiev after game 1 in WPG and wanted to replace him in game 2. Oh how fast they now all jump on the "Praise Georgiev" bandwagon! Sometimes it is smarter to shut up and give the goalie of your team a chance to make it better.
I’ve stood by him for the most part since he’s been here but admittedly did some roasting after game one of the Jets series. It was just frustration after how the season ended and how that game went. In all fairness, I roasted my own comment after game two, LOL
The one thing that has always bothered me about him though is his stick handling. I get heart palpitations every time he leaves the net.
Sorry, I'm rooting for him if he's doing good but I'm all for Justus getting more games next season to get him ready to take over the job. Let's see how supportive all the Georgiev fans are if he gives up a series.

We beat two opponents... Stars and Refs.
Refs were fine. There will always be some missed or questionable calls and I don’t think the refs favored either team. The Avs committed two bad penalties to put them on a 5-3 kill and they paid for it. Both the trip by Mikko and the high stick by Trenin were good calls.
@@thenextgreat8652 I think the high stick was iffy, unless we're talking about two different calls.
@@Trapper50cal What is “iffy” about Trenin’s stick hitting Robertson in the head? If you said Robertson may have embellished a bit, I might agree but that still doesn’t take away from the fact a referee is going to call a stick to the head or face 100 times out of 100 if they see it.
