I saw her in the color purple... BEST live performance I've EVER heard and I've been to a lot of musicals. It was the only musical Ive ever been to where the audience gave someone a standing ovation in the MIDDLE of a play. We were literally all MOVED to our feet. SHE IS AMAZING!
Let's talk about how all the other actresses who have played Celie (Except for maybe LaChanze) relied on doing these crazy riffs on every other note to make this song powerful, but Cynthia just sings it from the heart and it's even more powerful.
