If you already have a serger and a regular sewing machine, using a twin needle on your regular machine is a much cheaper option than getting a coverstitch machine, if all you are looking for is that top stitch.

The explanations of the two types of machines plus the examples of what they do was very helpful. I thought the comment one of you made about a serger sewing and cutting the edge of the fabric and the cover stitch sewing on top of the fabric cleared up a lot of confusion about what each of the machines do. Thank you!

While a cover stitch machine gives the most professional look, espeically with knits, can using a twin needle be used on a regular machine for a hem? Need to best look until I can get a cover stitch.

I have had so much stress with my sewing machine because of the fabrics I use. But I haven't been able to get it to work on knits. Will a cover stitch work on knits. Is there special needle or anything like that to use on knits?

Hi there, sergers and cover stitch machines work best on knit fabrics due to the differential feed dog system. In general, a ballpoint needle tends to work well for normal sewing machines on knits, as well as a zigzag stitch (or anything with width). Hope this helped!

Do you offer classes to sew clothes? If so, which location?

Hi there, we do offer some classes to sew clothes, we have a pajama pants class that we do every couple of months but currently don't have it scheduled. We also offer private classes in which we could cover some of that material. We offer both of these options in all of our locations: Arvada, Boulder, and Fort Collins! Here is a link to our sewing classes for more information and please let us know if you have any other questions! www.vacuumsrus.com/learning/learn-to-sew/#event_schedule
