I'm a returning player who never understood the game in the first place. These guides are so good.
That's great man, you're welcome 😃
This seems like a good place to put the *#1 Guild Wars Tip: Put Dodge on side mouse.* Double tap to dodge is awful. It's FAR better to just tap side mouse to dodge the dir you're moving or to WASD + side mouse to pick a direction. This = probably a 30-40% damage reduction for most players once you've got it muscle-memoried.
@@theminister1154 I switched mine to shift. Mainly because I'm so used to that from playing New World.
Dang i can’t wait to have some cool looking armor like that. Just started days ago, lvl 30 ranger & didn’t even know you could swap between the bow & great sword 😮 thx a lot!
As a new player this guide was so helpful. I've played wow and swotr but I was just having a problem getting my footing. This was exactly what I needed, other guides were just too direct to higher levels for me to fully get. Thank you!
I'm new to GW2 and just made a Sylvari ranger - this guide helps a lot, especially in deciding, which skills and utilities to choose
Nice work dude!
Can't wait for the following ones👍👍
Just what I was looking for! I'm looking forward to watching all of your leveling guides thanks!
You're very welcome 😃
i've returned to the game after a long hiatus. i just dusted off my ranger this week & this was very helpful as i remember very little. thank you!
Hey, thanks for this video. It's the best thing for me. Just started playing, and your build is exactly what I had in mind for my character. Cheers!
Thank you so much for making this video!
Thank you. Just what I was looking for.
I really loved playing my ranger so far, im running axe/horn + longbow. But im tempted to try the greatsword now. Great guide
Thanks man! Give it a go and see if you like it 😃
yea i like axe horn combo as well...but mostly been using axe dagger for my melee...the horn is good for double range combos i feel with axe for kiting help
I just started gw2 and ur guides are so good I understand stuff I could not figure out❤❤ ..thank you
Cannot wait to see revenant fingers crossed come out shortly :)
Yus, rev FTW! (:
Thanks so much for this!
Thanks ! I'm currently leveling my Ranger and this really helped a lot. I truly believe we're the best profession in the game. I love kitting, dropping back from enemies then attacking again from afar & I think our LongBow has the best skills for that kind of play. :P
Rifle mechanist is everything classic Ranger wishes it was. Try it. Classic Ranger can beat anything, but it takes forever (ie poor sustain.) I've beat a couple things the game doesn't intend you to beat... but it took forever each time. Now I play Mechanist & use my Ranger as a utility & crafting character (Untamed spec.)
Rifle mech also breaks bars better than any class I've played. 5 blue damage without switching weapons (unsummon resummon pet for #5.) The only real weakness is underwater.
@theminister1154 sometimes it's nice to play something that isn't the "best". I'm new to the game and tried them all at 80 and hated the appearance and mechanics. So far am enjoying leveling a ranger. I gave the Guardian the lvl bump because it felt boring to play.
Been playing a Ranger for about a week. Perfect guide! Thanks for posting it. :-)
You're very welcome! 😃
Thanks, great guide. Just bought the expansions using your referral link as a thank you . :)
Very good complete guide. Nice to have a guide geared toward levelling. Thanks.
Awesome guides as per usual mate!
Thank you very much 😃
Thanks for the video. It's greatly appreciated.
You're very welcome 😃
Thanks for the video.
Bought the game in 2012, and didn't get the mess it was. Returned now almost a decade later. Had a ranger level 29. Not that I remember any of that so the guide was good. Thanks for making it.
You're very welcome! Glad to have you back 😃
You Are Amazing , great so helpful Thank You.
Made me to choose between BDO and GW2.. nice and good guide
You deserve more subscribers and I hope you'll also do a Thief and Revenant Leveling guide very soon!
Thanks man and yeah I'll look to get them done soon 😃
Great guide, clear and easy to understand, thank you for this - it was just what I was looking for. Also I love that you named your bear Rupert 🐻
2 years late lol but just starting my gw2 journey. This guide Definitely helped me get going thanks dude🎉
Same and im using ranger
Well done vid. Coming from 4 years on ESO- many similar motifs, but yet different
Very well explained and enjoyable Guide.
Thanks man
You're very welcome! 😃
Tight!
Excellent explanation. very accurate. Thanks (from all newbies who are just wondering where to start).
You're very welcome! 😃
@@HeroicFlamingo Just one question Heroic. When i played on my Engineer i encountered tons of Juvenile Beasts. Now i barely get one (got 4 sofar). Any ideas on that?
Best thing to do is have a look on the wiki if you want to know where to look specifically for particular juvenile beasts 😃
Great! thx a lot
You're welcome! 😀
I came back to this game after nine (!) years, was completetly overwhelmed and had no idea what to do ... your guides helped me so much! Big thanks :)))
I think it's worth mentioning that you do not need to worry about gear at all in terms of kitting yourself until you hit lvl 80 as you get mist of what you need from quest rewards and random drops to see you through 😀
Every time I find a zone where the heart merchants (fill hearts to unlock) have the stats I want or close, I do all the hearts in the zone & gear up with Karma. That's about all you need to do besides buy bags/harvesting/salvage kits.
Would you recommend Marksmanship as your first spec even if you prioritize Greatsword?
My main is a power soulbeast but I'm thinking of change it for a condi one, because I love it the condi damage. It's worth for endgame?
Even though it doesn't do damage, I feel like Hunter's Shot is a good opener. It puts you in Stealth and lets your pet close the distance to grab agro and keep them from closing on you; you can then follow it up with Rapid Fire to start dealing damage from range. I'm new to the game, so I'm curious if my thinking is wrong here.
I see where you're coming from but the point I would make is that the stealth is good for breaking agro with the enemy so start with the rapid fire to do some damage and then you can stealth so the pet gets agro 😃 I hope you're enjoying the game so far!
I use it the same way! I gain time while the enemy focus on the pet.
I use it more for aggro control. *I open with #5. Good damage, movement debuff.* So _aoe5, then rapid fire 2, then Hunter's shot or #4 knockback if the mobs are pounding me or if it will die from autoattack soon. If dmg needed > aggro control, switch to Greatsword,_ leap in with #3, use the high dmg move (maul), then rotate behind & stun/reset maul, use maul. At that point #2 will be back up on longbow & you'll prob want to switch back to kiting.
That's pretty close to the rotation you'll find for Classic Ranger on Metabattle. Ranger 101, definitely effective. Make sure you Sic Em before Rapid Fire. Sic em, Str of pack, rapid fire = your best burst. Sic em is pretty much a mandatory pick for Ranger. Ups damage a great deal.
The most important skill to learn with Ranger is kiting though. You should be constantly moving (even in melee range often by circle strafing) on almost any tough mob. Basically kiting = free dodges since you are constantly evading aoe circles just by moving. Make sure you put dodge on side mouse. That's probably the #1 Guild Wars tip overall. That's Ranger 202. Crucial in all the expansions especially.
When kiting, make sure you kite other mobs between your target & bow for extra piercing damage. This will up your overall dps a fair bit. Ranger 303 kinda thing. More 303 = using pet & weapon moves to break blue bars. I use Jacaranda & Rock Gazelle. Jac is great damage at range + crowd control. Gazelle = great crowd control by swapping.
@@HeroicFlamingo That makes no sense, if you're worried about the pet getting aggro just hit F1 and send the pet in and then open with a bigger damage ability. Save the stealth for when you need to break aggro.
Hi there. What pets do you recommend for this build?
This video is best guide to me for making ranger :) i started in last year and my boyfriend helped buy to me the game so i learn step by step.
Just wondering, is Norn difficult or hard to make, i made Norn girl ranger so im kinda lost. This guide is very helpful for start. Thank you.
im a new player, thanks so much for your effort.
You're very welcome! 😃
I've been utilizing a core build I found online for souldbeast that says you can use dual axe long bow for the burst and distance damage. What do you think about dual axe?
One of, of not the best guides I´ve seen on this game
Would you say the Greatsword on the ranger is better than the axe and Warhorn? I've been leveling a hunter to lv 45 now and used the longbow and axe combo. The axe can do bleeding + might buff + swiftness + vulnerability then I switch to the longbow and its just devastating, the last skill of my specialization also provide extra ferocity when having the axe equipped. But I must admit, a Greatsword does look more badass.
I really can't stand the sheer size of the greatswords. Would this be any good going sword/axe or sword/warhorn instead of greatsword?
Amazing guide ! I was wondering if the short bow was useful at all since you didn't mention it ? Is it because the long bow allows for a safer play style while leveling ? I find the short bow really dynamic to play with but I'm a new player (only lvl 20 atm) so I don't know if it'll get worse as the content grows harder
The shortbow is still a viable option but the longbow is definitely a better overall weapon for a power leveling build! If you don't want to use melee you can always make a fully ranged build with both bows 😃 the most important thing is that you use whatever you enjoy the most!
short bow is mainly a condi weapon, it´s viable mainly in pvp game modes. You´d want to gear up a hybrid or condi build, most likely with viper or trailblazer stats.
Axe mainhand is a ranged weapon (900) and axe offhand has arguably the highest dmg ability in the game.
What is the longbow you are using?
idk if you still check comments, but I'm brand new and just hit 80 and have elite specializations now, do I use one of those for the 3rd slot on this build or not?
Returning player as well and have been trying to dust off my old toons. Did I miss it, I don't recall you saying anything about armor runes and weapon signets?
Yes, I believe in the weapon and armor stats section ☺️
also one more thing whenever i click on play on my charecter my game instantly closes i have checked the wiki and forums did -repair and -windowed i am trying to redownload 550,000 files of guild wars 2 again wonder if u can help
i used to run this build all the time now i am going to try to run this again but replace Beast Master with Soul beast
I used to think ranger is a guy with a bow till I tried using axe/torch.
Man, this is so cool! You throw axes and also burn your enemies with fire. Great AoE, tons of fun, good dps, decent distance.
It might be not the meta leveling build but its very satisfying to play. Anyways, thank you for your guides, it helps a lot :)
Is that your 2nd weapon instead of a great sword?
so you dont get the passive effect of skills if it's not on the bar? oops
How do you have a constant speed boon on???
What dyes are you using? :)
i know old video. how about people who cannot press a lot of buttons? low intensity build for ranger?
If I can ask, out of these builds which one overall did you feel was the most beginner friendly? I am new to mouse and keyboard but can’t put this game down.
The easiest are probably the Ranger or Warrior but I recommend that you just go with whichever one you want to play. It doesn't matter if you're not super good straight away, there's plenty of easier PvE content and you'll pick it up in no time 😃
prolly any ranged would be more beginner friendly so u not in the melee just standing back doing the whatever...ranger with pet is real nice for that cause the pet will hold most agro
my friend you have 0 - 15% chance to crit when you use your spells, is this still good to go precision and ferocity?
Crit chance is 41% my friend ☺️
So what about sword and dagger for melee? It has the evasion.
Yeah, you could swap out the Greatsword if you prefer 😊 however, I'll never pass up the opportunity to utilise a Greatsword skin 😉
I love Rupert
Is shape shifting not good?
I really think Anet ahould give more choice in weapon stats while leveling. Unless something changed, the rewards are all berserker's, so condi builds are very gimped.
there's always going to be some that complain... hi there!
@@aliasrandom9241 and your conclusion is "so fix nothing"?
is this build still viable for leveling?
I have a question. Can i catch pet without full version ?
Of course, it's all part of the base Ranger so you can have a pet with a free account ☺️
What I really don't like is how you only get 5 abilities with the longbow, one of which is just autoshot and two of them are not even damaging abilities... So you just end up with one AoE and one single-target ability. I wish it had more of a rotation going on...
I have a question to anyone, What if I used the level 80 boost, get my mount, then cancel out of the boost, would I keep my mount for that character?
It's been a while since I used one but how would you cancel the boost?
@@HeroicFlamingo Wrong terminology on my part, I think you get to preview it on your characters and if you don't want to use it you can somehow cancel it, i'll need to read up on it so I get a better idea
@@HeroicFlamingo NVM I saw the video of how to use it, looks like whatever you get at 80 stays there
10 years after release and Berserker gear is still the go to. I see nothing has really changed balance wise, heh
Also, the best Ranger builds don't use a pet, or a bow. Arenanet is borderline inept.
@@yourface8485 wait, what do you mean they don't use a pet? I thought rangers always have a pet? Haven't played in.. Gosh, six years or so, so I'm not up to speed.
@@Tosnoob Soulbeast you become one" with your pet/s. IMO losing your class identity in the process of having competitive dps. Base Ranger is just bad, and bows are bad so you run around as a Ranger...with no pet, and no bow. That's the state of Ranger unless you're Druid. Druid is great, but my point is regarding "dps"
@@yourface8485 what’s the best weapon with soulbeast?
@@thinkchair96 Axe+Dagger/ Great Sword
I watched the whole guide because the game says I should choose a skill to train, I have no clue what to choose or what this means and if I can change it later ... :(
I'm a new player, almost level 80 though, but I don't think you can get the spent point refunded - but by level 80, you'll have gained enough Hero Points to unlock all your skills and specializations. So definitely consider what you want first, but you'll get it all eventually
my class here, few years back i tried gw2, then made a break, when i got back tested all classes probably twice leveled them all up 20 30 lvl, but no other fits me as good as ranger. pets are so op, they can tank even elites, champions and raids and some has super decent dps. lynx is also my main choice, second is bear for pure tank. howewer i use both bows, short and long, ranger is ranger and its range class, and short bow has great cc debuffs, swapping while other skills in reuse are great, close range combat is hard in this game like in world bosses or mass pve you get killed fast, while ranged dps is safe and fun
kinda dissapointed that the staple weapon: the longbow, only really has 2 damaging abilities for attacking a single enemy, 1 being autoshot. lol...
37:14
Anyone else hear that low rumbling noise coming through his mic possibly?
What about elite specializations?
Well this video is specifically for a leveling build, whereas the elite specs aren't unlocked until level 80 😃 I have videos in my class guide playlist that take a closer look at the elite specs if that helps ☺️
@@HeroicFlamingo ohhhhh okay thank you!!!! I’m a new player and still don’t understand everything about the game thank you!
@@HeroicFlamingo while leveling up, is there a vendor that sells good equipment? Should I just use the gear I get from story and just playing? I haven’t seen any gear guides for say lvl 30. Every time I try to look up armor all I can find are people talking about lvl 80 armor. Side note: I don’t have any expansion packs so I cannot utilize trading post.
If you can't use the trading post I would say to use the stuff you get from the story as well as using karma vendors when you complete renowned hearts 😃
It's a leveling build video........
legolas with a pet
Just whack it out.
This is not a good guide... you discuss what YOU have, but you don't discuss all the options. I am a new player, and even I mostly understand what each skill does, but you waste a lot of time explaining things that take simple common sense. If explaining anything, it would be nice to quickly explain the conditions of abilities and that's pretty much it. Then when it comes to specialization, you explain what the ones you chose do, but not what the others do.... My advice... learn how to explain simple things short and concise, while with the more complex things, you explain in a detail that people understand why you chose that skill/trait instead of others so if others disagree, they can choose something different. Overall, this guide is a 5/10.
hahaha just waihh...waisted XD
Quit half assing it.
- don't know the starting weapon. So find out. Google it.
- can't really demonstrate because no enemies here. THEN WHY ARE YOU THERE during the skill demonstration portion?
i made a norn ranger also :):)
