4:23 'Jordan Love looks pretty good' but the Packers, by 'planning for the future' WASTED 2 - count 'em 2! - MVP seasons not taking a 'win now' attitude. Having a 10 year plan is great in the business world but if your goal is to WIN A SUPER BOWL, sometimes you've got to go all in (and not how Jerry does it). • @timothyfitzgerald3168

I think that "Jordan Love being a good pick" is revisionist history. Who knows if they had drafted a 1st round OLineman, a better receiver, a Safety etc. Maybe they wouldve gotten over the hump against the Niners or Tampa and won a SB.
Is it better just to always be good enough to go to the playoffs and not win (or even go to) a Super Bowl? Or would it be better to go all in, win a Super Bowl and then maybe have a few bad years?
Also, the Packers being bad last year wouldve left them in line to draft one of the QBs this year (GB easily couldve been 7-10 this year and had that #8 pick the Falcons had). So you never know when you may be in line to draft a young QB.

The odds of any of the QBs in this draft being better than Jordan Love are minimal. Caleb Williams could be great, but what Jordan Love did with that young OL and those young pass catchers is not something that happens with any degree of regularity. He worked out. It was a good pick. Other than Chicago, I would think all those other five teams who drafted an early QB would have happily swapped it for Love. You also can't play the alternative as though that pick would have hit, and hit immediately. If they draft OL, it could have been Isaiah Wilson. He was the next one taken. Would a rookie Xavier McKinney have been a difference? It is Green Bay, they weren't taking a WR in round one.

Nobody thinks pennix is a bad pick, what people think is bad is allocating so much of your salary cap to a qb to put in front of him with a no trade clause and front loaded contract. That money could have been used to bring in other free agents on defense. Michael pennix could possibly be better than kirk, i cant believe rappaport is supporting this. That literally put a cap on themselves and could be wasting a rookie qb contract.

The other day on some sports talk show--I don't remember--someone said it's a bad deal because you either want to win NOW, and so you surround Cousins with the best players possible, or you're building for the future, so you draft another quarterback instead. What the Falcons are doing is trying to split the difference. It's a kind of "have your cake and eat it, too" philosophy that rarely works in practice. And, yes, Cousins will be fine. He has no fear of Penix. BUT he MUST be thinking, "What could we have gotten INSTEAD of Penix that would help me win NOW?" I mean, if I were him, I'd be secretly SUPER pissed.

Asinine pick by the Falcons, for a myriad of reasons. The availability of every defensive player in the draft for one, and the best case scenario? Paying $100M for one year of Kirk Cousins?? 2 years of Cousins is still overpaying at $50M/year. 3 years means Penix becomes a 27 year-old rookie QB. It's pretty clear why Rapaport doesn't want to criticize the Falcons front office. He has to keep relationships with these guys to do his job, so if he comes out and says drafting Penix was stupid and he doesn't know why they did it, it hurts him personally because they're not going to want to talk to him and give him information. So he's always going to side with the front office.
To everyone else, though, it's pretty clear that this was a stupid pick. And I really liked Penix. I thought he was clearly better than Drake Maye, so I wouldn't have had a problem going with him even #3 overall. But it makes no sense to spend a 1st round pick on a QB when you just signed one to a $180M contract. It's an overallocation of resources. No one's ever done it before and there's a reason for that. Because it's stupid.

But, they say, he’s a great blitz pickup player AND he can convert short yardage situations. I wouldn’t mind that except now he’s saying he’s a #1 Back and Jerry says it, too. And that’s ridiculous! So he’s gotten better at being the #1 RB than he was two seasons ago when Pollard got hurt in a Playoff game against The Forty Whiners? And he was totally ineffective??
