    Great review! I love the objectivity of the videos. It is easy yo see bias where they are trying to sell you something.
    I grew up on JD 820 and 830 and Ford 8N. I owned a JD 4620 (135 hp) and 4850, with 10,000 hrs it still would dyno 216 peak and 196 continuous. Great tractors. I have retired and now own a Kubota B 3350 and Grand L5740. Both cab tractors. I love the hi low range lever on the column of the 5740. I use it every time I get in the tractor.

    Tim, I’ve been following you since quite some time, your way of explaining things inspired me to buy my Johnny, also a 1025R. I’m not a brand jockey, but my JD shop is right around the corner, whereas a presence of Kubota shops takes me to much time to reach, hence I’ve got me a Johnny.
    Keep them review videos coming, you and your family are doing a marvelous job!
    On a side note, how about a review of an offset ditch mower! I’m in the market, but haven’t seen much in the InteeWeb about it, especially since I need to install a 3rd function for it. Yours truly, Volker

    The three point hitch lower arms, on the Kubota , can be moved outward, to remove the quick hitch, by removing one of the pins at the end of the lower arms. The mower deck should be locked in the up position when using the three point hitch. I don't think you can go wrong with either tractor. I always look forward to your videos .

I was researching both tractors for over several months and couldn't find a review that explained what you have done so far. Last week I bought the 1023e because I love the autoconnect deck and my JD dealer allowed me to test several machines on my property because of my crazy slopes. If you can do a review about slope mowing with a subcompact that would be great. Those videos are few and far between. Sending blessings from NY brother.

    I bought a tractor a little over a year ago. I had intended to buy a John Deere, hadn’t even thought about Kubota. While our house was being built I asked all the machinery operators their opinions. They all told me either a Kubota or a Deere but they cautioned me the Deere dealer wasn’t good. I started calling the parts departments to find out availability of common “breakage” parts. In almost every case one dealer had the parts in stock, the other could have it in in a week or so. The end result, based on dealer support, was I bought a Kubota L4701. It’s been a good machine, and when I snapped a brush hog blade I had a new set later that day. So... evaluate your dealers!

    You are correct on the 3 point analysis. I do rest my hand on the lever on my GC2300 keeping it just over center in the lowered position while tilling. And Kubota would do well to add an inch or two of arm length. My equipment doesn't fit well on a BX because of pto length and I also drag my feet on shortening shafts to fit someone else's tractor.

    As the owner of multiple Kubota units from BX series all the way through L series and even the MX series each individual tractor has its certain uses . until buying my first John Deere last year we have now found that the largest and most notable difference between kubota and John deer is the #1 weight john deer, HEAVIER #2 hydraulic system capability stronger as shown at the END of the video, personally I find myself usually running for a John deer FIRST but if the ground is WET well then, go grab the kubota because I can usually get into the job SITE and out of the job SITE with very little problems, just my personal experience, love them both, GREAT JOB ON THE VIDEO CAN'T WAIT FOR THE REST

You hit the nail on the head with most reviews being so biased and focused on silly things. Nice to see an honest review. Thanks. I'm a Kubota BX23S owner, but I don't have a bias one way or the other. My choice came down to the dealer and which one treated me the best. Kubota won. Dealer location wasn't an issue since the Deere and Kubota dealers are across the street from each other.
    I thought the lack of position control would be a big negative when selecting the BX. After some thought I realized that the vast majority of 3 point work on a subcompact the hitch is either fully up or down. Then came the problem with the hitch not floating back down due to terrain changes. By opening up the flow valve and riding the lever to compensate for the terrain, the implement stays engaged. Sounds like a lot to do, but it quickly becomes second nature.
    There are so many excellent tractor brands available it's hard to go wrong. The one thing that I see way too often is people chasing specs. To those that say "My tractor can lift more than yours", yet will never come anywhere close to pushing the tractor to it's limits, what's the point? Buy the tractor that fits your needs, is within your budget, and if you can find a dealer that is honest and treats you well...you are in good shape.

    Thanks for the review Tim. I happen to own the BX23S but I would be equally happy with a 1025R. I agree with your assessment. The 3 point height adjustment would be a nice feature and I wish I had had it when I was using my box blade on the driveway. I have since paved my driveway so its not much of an issue anymore. I would also love the JD drive over deck. While my Kubota deck is not that hard to take on and off I only do it when I have to. I chose the Kubota because my neighbor has one and I was able to watch him and ask lots of questions. I have both a John Deere dealer and a Kubota dealer about equal distances apart, both being less than 10 miles away. My John Deere dealer is fine but I enjoy working with the guys at the Kubota dealer more. I always enjoy watching your videos and seeing the differences between the various tractors you own and use. Kubota, Cub Cadet, New Holland and Deere were all the same price. No Regrets on buying the Deere it has done me well. When I started looking for a compact tractor, I started with the BX. I ended up getting a B2650, and here's why: loader lift capacity, overall weight, 3-point hitch features, and ground clearance. The weight and loader capacity are obviously larger for the larger tractor. I understand the B2650 compares more closely to the Deere 3000 series. But I didn't like the BX not having position control on the 3-point hitch. My B2650 has position control, extendable links, and "telescoping flat bar style" stabilizers (on the inside), all of which works very well. (Maybe the BX now has optional "telescoping flat bar style" stabilizers?? That would be a great improvement.) The telescoping flat bar stabilizers have holes that you put a pin through to lock it at a certain length. They are easy to pull the pin and change the length. And there are enough holes to give a variety of usable lengths, including float positions.

  • @ohiovalleypondandexcavatio2114

    Another great video Tim. I’ve actually thought about this a lot because I’m starting to have a lot of issues with my 2038r. The main issues I’m having is as follows, the stand of the loader has been replaced twice the bolts keep breaking it keeps bending. The mid mount mower setting is going haywire now. The front loader loses pressure whenever you have a load on it and you can almost watch it settling to the ground. My Backhoe You Must keep raising the Boom or the backhoe just bounces all over the place. And I am told by my dealer all this is normal just keep the pin in to keep it locked. So the only other tractor around me is orange. But service is the key and I am not getting it from my dealer.

I own a 1025r mostly because I got it for a good price. Most videos I have watched, no matter how honest they say they are going to be, usually is pretty biased. You did a great job being up front with details in this first video of the series.

    Tim, you missed something VERY important. The Deere 1025r 3 point arms are Reversible. They provide different geometry depending on how you mount them. One way gives you higher lift. Please reverse them and show the viewers how it changes things... for better or worse. Thanks for the work you do,

    This was an awesome review, very well done Tim! I could not be happier with our John Deere 1025r, it's used frequently for many challenging tasks and I never have any issues whatsoever. Removing the mower deck and reinstalling it is a regular task and I have not experienced any complications with alignment. Our neighbor down the road has a Kubota series that is the larger version and it works great as well. For our property and our needs we love our 1025R! Our terrain is very uneven and rough with many steep slopes. Negotiating the slopes is a must while mowing our pasture but I have never felt at risk of tipping in the steep areas. Epic tractor!

  • @bobhomestead7396

    Tim the reason why the tiller was lifting in the back was because you had the mower deck on. To solve that problem, Lift the mower deck all the way up, then set the mower height adjustment to top. this actually lets the three point hitch fall all by itself, Because the mower will stay at the top level were is will not interfere. Hope i explained that good. There also is an adjustment to limit the three point hitch, i will have to look that up when i have more time. Thanks for the video.

      One of the biggest reasons I do wish I owned a Deere, the mid mount. That said, sales and support at Pape was arrogant and dismissive. Make sure you take that into account when making a purchasing decision. PTI (Pacific Tractor and Implement) a local dealer is why I own a BX and not a Deere. They have always treated a little guy like me with respect and first class service.

    • @andysworld2188
      @andysworld2188 Před 5 lety +3

      When it comes to the peddles it's a matter of preference. There is a small advantage to the treadle peddle when you are turned around looking behind you. It's easier to switch back and forth from forward to backward with a treadle peddle. No matter which one you get you will get used to it quick.

    • @_P0tat07_

    • @_P0tat07_
      @_P0tat07_ Před 5 lety +11

      N Pooch getting used to how it works isn’t the problem. In my opinion at least. That problem for me lies in that it’s uncomfortable to roll your ankle forward and backward, as opposed to rocking on the heel of your foot to press a pedal.

    • @SledgeHammer43
      @SledgeHammer43 Před 5 lety +8

    great video, you pointed out a con that is present in most sub compact tractors, that is a lack of position control, just about the only con I have with my 2009 Massey Ferguson GC2400, I sure it was a oversight but I see this routinely on videos posted by lot of folks that is improperly adjusted tilt angles on tillers, correct angle should be level to tilted forward at center of tine shaft to ground this enables tiller to perform as designed.

    Excellent video as always Tim, I have a 1025r, but like all tractors as well. To me the most important aspect of owning a tractor, that is a sizable investment, is the longevity of the tractor & the dealership as it relates to service & repair. Pretty much any subcompact tractor will do the task of the average homeowner but down the road will the tractor continue to perform well, and can I count on the dealership to back me up😊

    what we always do (granted I'm referring to a pair of 55 horse Mahindras) is we put the implement on first, raise it just off of the ground, then center it and adjust the sway bars, we always make sure to put the end of the arms to the inside of the pins as it gives us more lift height.

    Great video series. I have already chosen the Deere for a number of reasons but glad you are showing all aspects and letting people decide for themselves. One thing that would have been interesting to show was the difference in height to the rear edge of the implement at the highest and the lowest position. You mentioned it in the video but did not do it, (at least not yet😊). I am wondering if the angle difference between them would change anything.

      When I was dreaming of getting a tractor, I had no idea what that three point hitch height position control was. Tim mentioned it in a video and was kind enough to explain it to me in the comments. A year later I'm about to use it, but others who don't have it mention they wished their tractor had it. The John Deere quick attach on the loader is also, in my opinion, a nicer system for these small tractors than the standard Skid Steer Quick Attach that everyone else uses. It's simple, lighter and you don't lose lift capacity due to the geometry of the system. Overall, the Deere has a "premium" feel to it, from the seat and mat on the floor to the loader control joystick location etc. You will be happy with any tractor since they are all great, but you will surely enjoy the Deere. Note also that prices can vary quite a bit, so shop smart:-)

    I own a 2018 Kubota BX 23S and do use the 3 point a lot. I believe a 23S is the same as a 2680 except it comes with factory installed loader and backhoe. If you look closely there are two stops for the 3 point lift that can be adjusted by reaching under the fender. They can be used to stop up or down, also can be used to hold lift lever in down position to float in the down position. Great for using tiller, blade, etc. At least, that's how my BX 23S works. Best video I've seen on these two machines. Good job.
