It’s already been said in the comments, but as someone who’s currently looking for a good one and has checked out a few to see if my kids will fit, the rear legroom is quite ample for my kids, but if I was to just trust your review, it’s totally misleading when you’ve obviously got both front seats as far back on the rails as they can possibly go. So basically if you’re over 6’8” with kids who will occupy the back often, this car probably isn’t for you. For everyone else it’s fine. Why even do such a deceptive stunt in an otherwise fair review of such an awesome drivers car that thankfully a manufacturer still had the balls to build? Can’t put kids in the back of a Yaris comfortably.

Why slide the front seats all the way back then complain about rear legroom? Why not show us what it's like in the position the front seats will actually be used in?

I have 2 S1’s (one for road & one track car) & they are brilliant drivers cars that are criminally under-tuned from the factory which makes for very easy power gains. My only complaint would be the factory tinted side & rear glass that is in most S1’s, is so dark that night driving really limits on road visibility to the point of being dangerous.

How’s the reliability been? Thinking of getting a 2015 car.

Basically it's the perfect second (or personal) car. At least for me, that's what it sounds like.

Why would you compare a S1 to Golf R? That’s a different segment more akin to a S3 or RS3. The S1 is in the same class as a Polo GTI (besides the Quattro AWD).

Because they're a very similar price (depending on options sometimes the same price), same engine, same drivetrain, same family of manufacture, same Euro appeal. The only area they differ is in actual physical size. We know of many who have cross shopped the two so we felt it's a fair comparison. Secondly, the S1 is $15k to $20k more expensive than the Polo GTi. Yes they're a similar size but they're in a completely different class.

The polo gti is no match for an s1 you disgus

Haha great summary of a rare Audi with genuine character! I enjoyed my time with that very car around Melbourne, aside from the lack of rear space and slipping clutch, I thought it was a great little car. The new generation A1 won't spawn a S1 unfortunately, be interesting to see what used values of these low number cars do over the next 3-5 years... Cheers guys

It’s a really great car! Love it, it’s a shame that sales aren’t great in Australia... in Europe it’s selling quite well.. maybe because of the manual
Ok because it’s more expensive than a R (in Oz) wtf

Yes in the UK to get a similar spec. Golf R costs about 5K more. My wife loves her little yellow S1 and declares it as the best car she's ever owned.👍
I love the manual box..and it makes my car (Macan S) feel very lethargic.😕

Yes. The same pros and cons are had with my Audi A1 Ambition with the Competition Pack - not an S1, and not priced like the S1, but still a fun small car for one of two people. Useless back seat. Keep it folded down to have more room for the wheelchair.

Just bought my S1 and love it! I wonder why the ride in yours has deteriorated. I don’t find it too bad even on our terrible Pommie roads because the seat is so supportive. I’m on 18 inches with low profiles like you too.

It was great when new but ours has had a very hard life.
