- The "Science" of Songs!
Hoping this can help you to learn Music Structure, Phrasing & Musicality, so you can be more musical and have more fun dancing - both as leaders and followers.
This video focuses on the theory. We will be releasing a video next week on how you can apply this in your dancing and how followers can save the phrase change if the leader fails to set it up. But you need to know understand the theory behind first.

PS: At around 6 min I see I have highlighted the wrong mid-phrase in the blues music structure. Should be the 1 on the row below :)
Thank you very much for this video! Going to do my homework now.
Thank you very much! I'm a teacher. And literally that week I explained this topic to the students. Your video is most welcome and will enrich my material.
I look forward to the next releases!
Excuse my English. I don't speak English. Use Google Translator :)
great generosity in the explanations
Awesome! This can not be practiced enough 😀
As an alternative way of counting, if you are only going to count in your head, and knowing where you are in the phrasing, is to count
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
2 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
3 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
4 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
... etc.
Only 1's can be hard to keep track on.
🙂
thanks for article.
Thank you so much for this comprehensive and informative video on understanding music structure (: It has really helped me to honor the music with my dancing as a follow (:
Glad it helped you! :)
Thank you for that great lesson.
I feel like "Shape of You" is a difficult song for this.
In the Pre-Choros, it has kind of a break on the last 4 counts of the block, so for me, it does not feel right to hit the 1.
