Cairngorms Loop :: Day 3 :: MASSIVE ROUTE CHANGE

  • Sometimes you have to take control and not be a slave to the trail.
    After day 2 dishing more pushing and on-again-off-again riding we decide to ditch the official Cairngorm Loop and head off on a detour then another detour.
    Before we split off though we were treated to one of the most beautiful descents I've done. A fantastic and varied trail, river crossing, wild swimming, mountains turning to forest, all illuminated by golden sunshine.
    This is how all bikepacking should be, I just hope I captured it!

    Beautifully filmed with great music, nice one Jethro 🚲⛺👍
    You didn't see any trolls because they are nocturnal in Scotland, due to their prey (the Osynlig Haggis) being nocturnal.
    I too am a big fan of just playing the route by ear, nothing worse than 'having' to stick rigidly to a plan. It's all cycling, right.

    It a little out of season but you maybe fortunate to see very young ones only if your very quiet and lucky, it’s time of year when they are eating there greens, I am of course talking about Haggis scoticus, a very timid creature..
    According to some sources, the wild haggis's left and right legs are of different lengths, allowing it to run quickly around the steep mountains and hillsides which make up its natural habitat, but only in one direction.
    It is further claimed that there are two varieties of haggis, one with longer left legs and the other with longer right legs. The former variety can run clockwise around a mountain (as seen from above) while the latter can run anticlockwise.The two varieties coexist peacefully but are unable to interbreed in the wild because in order for the male of one variety to mate with a female of the other, he must turn to face in the same direction as his intended mate.
    Good luck…

      I'd really hoped to see some but we didn't even spot any tracks ☹️

    What a fantastic alteration to the route/plan. The scenery looks amazing. This has inspired me to sort myself out and get back to riding. I completed King Alfreds Way last year and hated it so much I haven't ridden since. I realise now that a fixed route, a schedule or itinerary to keep, for me anyway, takes the joy from riding. The best adventures are spontaneous and sometimes the best laid plans can result in a stale, joyless riding experience. Love the videos, thanks.

      @JethroJessop  Před měsícem +1

      Definitely get back to it!
      Sometimes a route just doesn't deliver for all kinds of reasons but don't let it put you off.
      I don't mind a fixed route (I enjoyed the KAW) but I hate feeling pressed for time so the rides I remember most fondly are the ones that were made up on the fly and had plenty of wiggle room built in!

    • @JethroJessop
      @JethroJessop  Před měsícem +1

      I think it's just something people do. Humans have been piling up stones forever I bet.
      I think it has become a thing because of Instagram and I know it is often frowned on because people move rocks in rivers and disturb habitat, also leaving potentially quite dangerous piles of rocks in popular spots.
      I try to be sensible about my choice of stones and always knock them down before I leave.
      But it doesn't mean anything, it's just a pass time.
