Totally agree, a friend of mine was talked into buying one, he gave up 2 months later and put the old centre back in. If EA thought it would of done any better after spending years of time, money & research, surely they would of produced that instead. I use a Cetus sieve before the Nexus, works great on my pond and an Eazypod from the skimmer to the Bakki shower. Works great for me, may not others. Have a great week Dave. 👍
Interesting to hear that. I can see how a seive is a much better option , just from the little one in the roto shower. The cetus is a big unit so much catch alot of muck before it reaches the nexus. Looking forward to seeing what I get with the seive
Same as yourself, I can't see how this would be an improvement,when EA put so much research into getting it to what it is. For fines I think a sieve would work better due to the size particles it takes out. The k1, even the micro can only take out a certain amount and was never meant to be used to filter out extra fine particles. Also,it depends on how clear you are looking to get your water,as some turbidity is good for the koi,skin,luster and so on do better when it's not crystal clear. I let a tinge of green form during very sunny weather just to help the koi through it and protect their skin. Only takes a few days with the UV off. More ways than one to get what you are looking for and in the end it should be what's best for the koi and not us looking to look at them like they are in an aquarium IMO. Beni suffers the most without turbidity of some sort.
Yeah it is puzzling as at one stage EA did go this route and have clearly reverted. I'm just not seeing what others have seen. Now the Beni area and UV I find fascinating, I really do. There is so much out there on this some of it conflicting some of it makes sense. Sometimes I wonder if the industry wants to keep the mystery around it. Really interesting to hear what you do with the green water to block some of the UV. You find your getting good success at keeping intense beni? I'll let you know what I find with the seive, I've got one which will be going on the easyponds hopefully this season😊

But it is more intense and I do feel that the green time has helped protect it from the strong UV we had last summer. I know it's not just the light,same as yourself I use saki balance and feel,that with the time and good water all play a part and as one help keep the koi in the nest condition. I don't use colour food,as I let the walls of the pond get covered in the green moss like algae that the koi relish and it seems to work for me. I like the more natural approach like Oz pond does. Only intervene when I'm needed,leave them to it otherwise and interfere as little as I can,other than feeding and maintaining the filters. Firm believer in finding a balance to the pond and not messing with it once you do. IMO
@user-oi2qi5vo1r yeah I always wonder if genetics is the overdriding factor. Do we just think we can alter poorer developed fish more than we can? I dunno. Interesting topic though. Yeah I think you are right on the system balance if you can that's the aim. But in some case like lack of size/capacity there are some useful tools to help.

Have a smaller grow on than yours and having great results with keeping the numbers low,simple set-up,just keep tads on it with water changes more than anything. Don't test the water, as use how the koi are acting as my signal of anything is out. Learning to read the koi is for me a better way to understanding what is or isn't working,I'll let them tell me in their own way so too speak 🤔
Hi Mate. Have you ever thought or used filter brushes in the inner chamber? My pond is build now,but not running. I've bought a nexus 320 and I'm going to run a 24" advance filter after it, to polish the water. And I was thinking about using brushes in the inner chamber of the nexus. I've run brushes in a pump fed settle chamber over the years and find them very effective and easy to clean. And trap a hell of a lot of crap, I think I will try it just to take the heavy work of the inner easy. Any thoughts or experience? Thank you
Evening Shaun. So nope to first part I have never have run brushes in the nexus chamber so from actual experience not alot i can give. When I think about how that would work, would you be able to arrange the brushes to block the flow enough to stop enough going through? More muck that gets through the more that settles in that outta chamber which I hate. You'd have to build a grid and arrange the tightly from above? My only concern would be keeping them in position, but if you've got enough of them can't see why not. Nothing wrong with brushes as a Mechanical filter, look at koi wholesales set ups and what he achieves. just got to be willing to clean them. Cleaning wouldn't be easy would it? As you'd struggle to get the pipe in to stop transfer to the outer chamber? Food for thought anyway. I will hopefully this season be setting up the second nexus properly so I'll have a think on other things I can do for mechanical. I'm just not happy with any of the options so far. That's before I even mention EAs claimed feeding in grams per m2 for bio🤣🤣

I realise i would have to take them out to clean the easy and inner chamber. Thinking about it, I know the brusher trap a lot of green algae etc. And when I've used filter brushes in the past, the Algae fly's every where, in your face etc. I Wouldn't really want it to spatter it all over the nexus and in the outer chamber and in the K1 it might make a right mess? How do you conclude that it collects less? I ran one on an outside 15k litre pond and was up to 4 days between cleaning. Good bit of kit, no idea why yours isn’t working/needing cleaning so much on that tiny setup.🤷🏻♂️Have you spoken with the creator? Be worth speaking to him.
If you're running the same waste through it between each clean and all that's going up is the amount you clean it in terms of intervals , then You are collecting less waste per clean. I could leave 4 days or more between a clean, but i won't be feeding much.always gonna be the disciding factor how much food you are putting through Like I said I am pump fed so my waste is getting minced before it enters more gets through, the downside of being pump fed. It's working fine under a normal condition , but again no difference to what the standard insert does. There is defo a reason EA moved away from this design as well. £300 could be far better spent elsewhere. This is my experience from how I've used it in my 3000l grow on.

I've obviously gone and had a look now, but i can safely say I hadn't seen your review on them ( mainly forums) so please don't think I'm having a dig at anything. Not fair comparison, you already got gin clear water 😂 i have been thinking of getting it, but i tink it's to expensive. i ended up use ducktape to blok 3 out of 4 rows on the outside. That works fine and only cost 2£ in ducktape 😅
If it does what you want it to why not😊. Trust me when I'm tipping the food in it is not gin clear 🤣 it relates closer to sewage water . It's nice at mo with no food - minimal maintenance 🤣
@@OrchardKoi So thats the secret. No food = clear water and filter cleaning 😂 honestly i dont know if has done any difference. i never used it without the tape, but in my head i make sense. The fines has to travel though more media, so in teory it should catch more fines. 🙂
@koikanalen no the ultimate secret is no fish 🤣🤣. Yeah can see why. I think ultimately the middle of these are good mechanical filters but require alot of maintenance under heavy use
