Real martial artist. Those talking down on his techniques should watch his old fights, before he was even in the ufc. Everything he explained here worked for him. May not be a good tip for up and coming fighters but he got away with his "flaws" because he had concussive KO power and great timing. He also threw from awkward angles.
Bottom line is, he was successful because he found what worked for him.
Well said mate. Same as how not everyone could fight like Anderson Silva. It's all individual and if u can implement ur game. These guys being critical wouldn't stand a chance against a prime chuck in any combat sport
sooo true, thank you for pointing all that out
Rght , A boxer will tell you he was dead wrong and in a Boxing ring with Boxing rules ,Chuck would get killed . But an MMA Fighter in an Octagon is a Whole different Animal and a Boxer would get killed.
Just like Bruce Lee said, your style is an expression of who you are. Take what is useful, discard what is not, and add what is uniquely your own.
You can get away with it today as well the "evolution" is a two sided sword, some old stuff in combat sports works well today Philly shell, leg kicks, Zabit's striking & takedowns(there is footage of that from the 80s)
You truly see the greatness in Chuck Liddell in this video. There's a misconception he was a sloppy brawler. When in fact Chuck had great knowledge in the striking art. His timing was his best asset and his technique. Had that Karate base to for his footwork and striking form. He was ahead of his time in mma as far as striking is concerned. Was well adapt to the art of striking!
Damn didn't realize every youtube commenter is a professional boxer.
Yeah I'm a professional boxer I am
thank you ain't never step foot in a tournament
***** Found one. When's your next PPV fight? I'll tune in AI.
***** Hell yeah man! Good luck. Your combos are sick!!
yeah a lot of guys on you tube are just killer beasts who know everything about every fighting style
I could bet my left nut that not one person making negative comments about chuck's striking techniques could last one MMA or boxing round with him during his prime years... NOT A ONE.
They couldnt last a round with him now chuck = bad mofo
I think I could lol
Prime years? They wouldn’t last 30 seconds against him NOW
One round? Lol. How about 30 seconds. That’s more like it.
Rampage,Evans,Jardine,
Shogun 😂
when chuck liddell explains his overhand saying it's like throwing a ball i thought "so that's why he fucked up everybody at dodgeball on the Ultimate Fighter
Chuck is a legend
a knock out artist
Yusuf Bulbulia The intelligence of getting angry at a strangers texts astounds me.
+TheGhjgjgjgjgjg

+TheGhjgjgjgjgjg
Ha ha ha ha
good one mate
1:48 with that move he Destroy Alistair Overeen during a Pride match damn i can remember.
Chuck should definitely become a MMA striking coach.
TheMrBranford im talkin about Liddell should pro mma fighters like Toxeira
I would pay for him to teach me real talk XD just getting half his ko power would be great
Thanks chuck I will practice that on my wife!!...
Chuck always hit hard as hell. If he could keep the fight up off the ground...sooner or later...he was gonna catch you with one...and then lights out.
+johnnyguitar65 "if"? he had some of the beast takedown defense of his time.
Only went to one UFC, 88 in Atlanta. Wife and I saw our hero Chuck get knocked out by Rashad. Beginning of the end for a legend. Agree with experts though, if Chuck would have landed the uppercut...
Chuck Liddell Fun Fact #1 : You only have one liver.
well if you have more than one liver, visit your doctor. Because every other healthy human only has one
+John Jordan #YOHOL
Fuck you, you made me spit water on my keyboard
That means way kunts
First time i've seen chuck without the beard
Damn I miss The Iceman
+kentd253 His fights were always exciting!
He fights Ortiz this year
When Chuck gives lessons in striking, YOU LISTEN!!
Sometimes I forget the follow through and really putting that power at the tail-end of the knuckles and dropping the weight all the way onto the fist (like Chuck does mechanically) usually gives all the power you need. He's like the shining example that a lot of us get too caught up in twisting your body and hips and snapping your punches like a boxer and focusing so much on that. It's good in that you can bring your hands to the guard and launch a barrage efficiently; which to me is traditional boxing and why boxers tend to use different parts of their body to generate power and snap punches so they can quickly drop back into the guard.
But Chuck shows if you let your hand go and let it follow through and sometimes not to over-emphasize technique on hip rotation and snapping your punch and just sort of sledge-hammering your punch and keeping it a little loose you can get some serious power. I've been working so hard on my boxing from boxers that when i re-watch Chuck's stuff I'm like "ohhhh yes. These mechanics are pure power and are undeniable."
I truly believe Foreman, who gets judged for his classical boxing and punching technique, uses this same exact mechanic that Chuck shows here. He punches much more with his arms and hands than any other boxer before and after and generates huge power. Another boxer today that shows this is Maidana. He has overhands just like this and when he misses you can see his punches following through like crazy, making a lot of what he does look like wild haymakers.
this guy has orang-outan arms, that's why he doesn't have to slip and lean forward towards the opponent to throw the body hook
Speaking or orang-outans, you'd think blacks would be able to have the reach like Liddel has??
looks like your lobotomy was a success ! please hold still while we attach your drool cup !
I mean yeah but no matter who you are you shouldn't lean off your balance to throw an uppercut or body hook just like hes saying. that whole concept is boxing itsself which is balance. When hes talking about the bad way hes 100% right about not leaning that far to throw the hook and the core of how to throw punches correctly is this way you just shorten it up after you learn the line you body is supposed to traverse.
How can you not love the Iceman still to this day, to me he's always been the g.o.a.t
A great video with my all time favorite fighter Chuck Liddel
thanks for the demo champ!! i agree chuck is a living legend.
Asking the Iceman for tips on defense !!
Great video. Thanks.
super cool video!!!
Chuck was a hard as hell puncher, remember he's only teaching what works for him, so you either use it or you don't..............he's a true great in MMA
Good Video Thanks!
Great tips from the man. Awesome cheers :)
"keep moving!"......ABSOLUTELY!!!
Great vid!
Chuck Liddell is definitely one of my favourite fighters of all time thi guy was a fuckin legend it's just a shame that he went out with the losses he had.
I would have liked to see him retire undefeated as I really think that this is one man in MMA that earned his reputation.
And he never did trash talk he just let his hands do the talking.
Tito voted 9 times.
Great lessons from an awesome legend fighter! Awesome.
U the man brother thank you
I love these guys... great techniques
Is Liddell related to Woody Harrelson?
Excellent!
Chuck seems like a pretty intelligent guy who knows a lot about his craft. Hes a natural bad ass but seems like a good guy. Not a cocky Ahole.
I like this video really
Legend
great being in a gym atmosphere with The Ice man even if it was through video. he is the real Balboa, from fighter, to champ to a guy who can tell you the best fight stories and after this I think he would make an amazing coach.
what a treat
Talk all the shit you want ,,, spar with him then talk smack.. after you wake up
that gym has one hell of a set up!!
One of the most destructive weapons ever in all of combat sports.
Miss this guy :(
SICK
Brilliant advice. I'll be practicing this every pad session from now on. 4:08 ...goodnight.
dat overhand he landed on overeem was a thing of beauty. awesome technique.
This is a Master Class by a MMA Legend :D....... nice
That hook to the body was what got him knocked the fuck out against Rampage Jackson.
Chuck has a lot of wisdom to offer students and he should really do what other's have done and produce a series of training and self defense videos.
I read his book and the couple paragraphs he wrote about knocking people out made me hit harder
I loved this guy in the goonies. Hey you guyyyyssss!
I'd buy a DVD of Chuck and Glover combat instructional. They know WAY more than this. But they could accidently give away some secrets and Glover is still active.
The Iceman,What a fighter the Champ!
no matter what he will ALWAYS be my hero. I love Chuck Liddell if I were to ever make it in the UFC I would want him to be my trainer. Best fighter in the Ufc
these are good ass tips
One of the greatest strikers of all time in my opinion.
I miss seeing him fight
The sound when hit the overright lol
chuck looks fresh and in shape, i bet he still can school many of the lhw's outside the top 5
Chuck's the best
with glover taxeira as pad holder. nice.
GOAT
" Don't get down any, just throw it". Worked out pretty well for Tyson. But totally different sports A. Tyson had enough power and speed to use that technique and not land off balance or in a bad spot, and B. He didn't have to worry about getting taken down if he did. Chuck, in his pinnacle, had some of the most precise, fast hands of his time. When he started teeing off on Tito...man. Only person I can think of that outdid him in hand speed at the time is Vitor, and he didn't throw combos as much as just powerful straight rights like in the Wanderlei fight.
Chuck Lidell still awesome!
The way that guy generated power is amazing.
chuck rules
powerful striker
yes.
Chuck Liddell has a lot of knowledge. Im surprized none of the newer TUF coaches have brought him in to coach a session.
That's more like a flying knuckle sandwich than a Overhand right.
Yes, he threw a great one vs. Overeem in Pride, in case anyone missed it. Textbook, and Chuck moved his head way left to dodge any counter at the same time. Perfect blend of offense and defense at the same time. That arching overhead right wobbled Overeem; then Chuck Ko'd him with a left hook soon after.
***** Lifes like a box of chocolates
When the iceman hits the pads my body shivers ... it's like you just know his punches break ribs and jaws.. and he's carved out've wood I saw one match were the kid must've tagged chuck a good 12 or 15 times I kid u not chuck landed like a solid 8 or 9 blows busted the guys nose bruised his body banged him up real good & that was towards the end of his career not even when he was in his prime
Still got that power
I used to box when i was young. Chuck is doing the overhand right.
That overhand right is straight from Choy Li Fut
Chuck ur the fucking man big brother
he seems like a good guy he would probley fake a punch then laugh and give me a hug after I flinch :P
This is what Sammy needed
Chuck is gonna smash tito! Beast mode!
Chuck Liddell with them true fact anatomy lessons
"It's all body... It's all torque. Want to hit that hard? It's torque."
7:38 No wonder Chuck knocked people out over and over, when they think he's gonna land a body punch and becomes a big right over hand to the head
He learned that from Rashad Evans lol love Chuck :)
Wilder trows that punch the swing like a ball punch..
I learned a lot about the fake how to use the fake a right way
he looks like the blue guy with an arrow in guardians of the galaxy.
Liddell keeps punching even though his opponent is blocking, sooner or later the opponent open up and BOOM lights out.
You've obviously never been punched in the arms by somebody throwing the bombs this guy did. Have a look at his fight against silva basically mitigated Silva's offence by destroying his arms with bulk power
Those winning gloves are pricey as fuck.
God I miss chuck so goddamn much.
Chuck Liddell without a goatee looks like Michael Rooker!
Chuck is throwing a cricket bowl
Chucks cool!!! But I don't know about that big swinging arm punch...seems kinda wild but hey....it worked for him right?
+jmo He Knows what he is talkin about the if you punch the way he explained you gain another few inches ,this just one other way to punch he used every punch in the book and then some . There are no rules in knock out punches you have to try everything
lol i think he is referring to the guy in the long sleeve compression shirt
Don't pull on Superman's cape, don't piss in the wind, don't play poker with Daniel Negreanu and don't mess around with Chuck Liddell.
Dude in the spandex looks like Pvt Pyle
Theres a similar one like this only with forrest griffin and the guy found out he had a broken leg the next day
striking tips from chuck liddell... SAY WHAAAAAA
