    Did the White Rim 3 months after you were there. We started late Friday, went in a couple of hours and camped at Airport in cold, dusty winds and abject darkness. It was bleak. Saturday dawned calm and serene. We did the majority of the trail then stopped for a night at Labrynth. That was one of the most glorious camping spots ever as we were the only ones around. Except for the bikes. We sat out there late into the night watching bicyclists come down the road wondering where the hell had they been and where were they going. OMG it was dark and those roads have sheer drop-offs. It was just BEAUTIFUL. Hardscrabble Hill and the Hogback were awesome climbs in my buddy's stock 2017 4Runner. We had the best time and I can't wait to do it again.

    We did about 25 miles of White Rim a couple of years back. Absolutely beautiful as is every place I go around Moab. I wish I had a trailer like yours so I could take 3 days and do the entire 100 miles of it.

    Loved the video! Nice seeing the Shafer switchbacks again, since last October. Though my wife didn't let me go more than 2 or 3 miles per hour until we bottomed. Loved to see it from your perspective and clever editing. Makes crave doing the whole White Rim trail, which we couldn't do. Please, more from Moab !

    Great video. My wife and I did the whole White Rim Trail today (about 100 miles, and it took us about 8.5 hours.) It was spectacular! Too bad you had to cut the trip short. Some even more amazing sights are on the second half of the trail. The “Monuments” section was epic! At the end of the trail is another, narrower, switchback trail to get back to topside.

    Great job. We were there in late December. If you can tolerate it being 35 during the day and 19 at night you pretty much have the entire White Rim trail to yourself! We had lunch on day 2 of our trip down in Lathrop Canyon. Great spot. You should start sharing your GPX tracks. While there are plenty of other sources making it easy for your viewers to see exactly where you went would be a plus.

      Ranger xp crew 1000 I’m pretty sure that was the Colorado river. Seems like I confirmed that on my map at one point. This was an amazing run. Really really only scratched the surface of exploring that area. I’m planning on a 3-4 day run on the White Rim trail alone in 2018.

    Question: Did you ever have to put it in 4wheel drive for that trail?

    • @SwellRunner
      @SwellRunner  Před 7 lety +1

      I did. I always put it in 4wd on dirt - just in case I find myself in a situation unexpectedly. I put it in 4lo going down Lathrop Canyon trail, just to help with the steep grades. I wanted to make sure I had good control of the vehicle since the road was so narrow and the grade so steep.
      There were a few places where the sand was a little thick, but all in all, careful/skillful driving and good tires would have probably been fine with 2wd.

    hey Jason i have to ask........ why oh why do you not have a winch???...... lol i just came across your videos and are enjoying them..... but ask any offroader the first mod that should be done is a winch, if you get yourself in you need to be able to get yourself out..... keep up the great videos and having fun!!!!

    • @SwellRunner
      @SwellRunner  Před 7 lety

      Jake Chynoweth All in due time my friend! I actually have one on my back porch, waiting for the bumper to come in! I really haven't been in too many situations where I needed one. I agree it was a necessity, but it wasn't needed more than tires and more clearance, for me.

    Such an amazing video and editing!! I would kill to be on that journey... Yet I can't believe both kids are watching videos the whole time... Are you kidding me???? Memories with their Dad that should last a life time is WASTED!! Sad :(

    • @SwellRunner
      @SwellRunner  Před 7 lety +5

      They do pretty good. Most of the time, I have them turn off their electronics when we're places they need to be seeing. We generally don't let them "play" on their electronics until after 430, and before that time, we listen to audio books to keep them entertained.
      I was thinking about this the other day, actually. I remember a couple trips I did when I was a kid with my parents where they were pretty much strictly sight-seeing trips. I remember thinking how lame they were. haha. I mean, I remember going to see the sequoia national forest, and some other of the iconic places in California - and I remember thinking that trip was sooooo boring. haha
      It's my job to bring them there, teach why they should appreciate it, give them a framework by which they CAN appreciate it, then it's up to them to choose to enjoy it! But like I said, they do pretty good.

    • @hippiebits2071
      @hippiebits2071 Před 6 lety

      Jason Koertge Agree with you 100% about the kids...they are KIDS and by nature have limited attention spans and appreciate adventure in different ways than adults. Forcing things upon them often leads to them not enjoying the activity or appreciating it as adults. always had toys, books, games in the car for entertainment as a child and rarely do I pass up a road trip as an adult.
