- Since a lot of people have been asking me how my car has treated me with having a little more miles on it. I figured I might as well make a video on everything that has gone wrong with the car, what to watch out for, and the costs.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR WATCHING ♥️
Agreed on the recommendation when getting a higher mileage B8/B8.5, honestly goes for any older car with higher mileage. Service history.. if the car's been to any reputable/certified Audi repair facility, the service record can be looked into. Big 3 for these cars IMO: Thermostat and water pump, DSG service, pcv. Guess technically 4. Just keeping up with regular maintenance items these will last a long time.
I don't know if this will make you feel better, but I'm from an eastern European country where it's almost impossible to find a car on this mileage, we call it real millage. In most used cars dealers all cars have around 130k miles (210k km) but when you check the real millage by diagnostics you can find more than 300k miles (500 000 kilometers). And it can be even more. So yeah, just wanted to let you know that we say low mileage for this one
4:50 The inside shoulder of the front tires wear prematurely because of the designed-in negative camber, which is not adjustable, NOT because the control arms or bushings fail. Service people SPECULATE that the bushings are the issue and charge you big bucks to replace them, which does nothing. You don't find out they were wrong until it's too late to sue them. The only solution is to replace the stock arms with adjustable arms so that you can make the front tires more vertical. Good luck, because adjusting the arm lengths will alter the caster, so it needs to be done right so it's the same, left and right.
Hey man . Nice meeting you . Im an Audi S4 fan and wanted agree on the reliability . Mine is the last year they made supercharge . 2016 mind has 120515 . Bought it when it had 32000 , and love it . Mine gets driven a lot .
Great video. I bought a new 2018 Audi S5 when it first came out and it only had 50 miles on the odometer. I just passed 90,000 miles this month. So far, just a coolant sensor issue and oil leak issue that popped up around 75k miles.
What is the difference between a rs3 and a s4? Also would you say the s5 is worth it over the s4?
@@rnartin_search it up ?
@@rnartin_ the rs3 is a turbocharged inline 5 and the s4 is a supercharged v6. if you plan to mod the car I would honestly buy the rs3
Beautiful color ! I have a 2015 sepang blue s4 with 127k miles. I purchased at 26k miles and went to Apr stage 1 the day after. 2 days later I went stage 2. (Pulley+belt+roc euro intake upgrade) the only issues I’ve had was I broken axles from so many 20-60 launches lol oops, timing chain needed replaced at 85k and just yesterday my serpentine belt snapped because my pulley was had a flat spot in it. Cars been a delight driving and non stop compliments on the paint
When you saw the crack in the windshield, I felt that lol it's like no matter what you do, it never lasts. That's just the way she goes
Currently driving a vw scirocco r in singapore with 204k km (124k miles ) and I would say generally it’s pretty reliable as long as you maintain it and don’t beat on it all the time
New fan to the channel as I’m looking for a s4 rn but the price is ridiculous in singapore for a b8.5 s4 it will cost me 140k sgd for 10 years so it’s a struggle but anyways dope vids man love the ride
Thank you I’m happy you like them!
Own a 2017 Camry with 250k miles on it stil going strong and about to get an s4 I’m so excited of course I’m keeping ol faithful for the work car she’s paid off just ready for that Audi been my dream car 😍😍🤙🏼
Got my Acura 2011 got it cash with 89k miles and rn I might get my s4
Hope your dream don't turn into a nightmare. Had a 2022 S 5 which was a lemon, finally got of it, don't want ever to hear the name Audi, going for the lexus
The 2017 s3 i bought had dsg service done at 79k miles. i plan to have the dsg service around 105k miles (im at 95k rn). previous owners have been doing 10k oil changes intervals but im gonna watch out for oil consumption as i put more miles on it. also water pump & thermostat might be due soon im surprised it made it this far. no coolant issues so far. people really expect to drive and maintain these cars like Camry's.
do the oil 5k / 6months
Given the mileage, what about direction injection carbon build up? Was that an issue and if so, what was the fix?
My B5 S4 has 300k miles. Just a tune and intake, exhaust. Still going strong. Transmission was swapped with a lower mileage one. But none the less. Keep up on maintaining and you’re good. As any car.
Caught a new subscriber with the honest reaction to the windshield lol. Literally did the same thing when I saw one on my ‘13 S5.
For sure do the DSG and diff maintenance, just did mine at 75k and the car is so buttery smooth in all modes of shifting. Run some injector cleaner every once in a while, my beast seems to like Liqui Moly Jectron and pulls like new. First Audi for me (6th) that hasn't burned oil at all, it's crazy! Knock on carbon fiber wood!!!
Just being curious, what are they doing when they service the DSG?
@@jamesrguy5430 I am looking at a b8 s4 w 60k miles and a new dsg. So they may put a new one in
@@collinharrington9569 Cool. Let me know how it turns out bro!
@@jamesrguy5430 The fluid is replaced of course, as well as the external filter. There's a more extensive service that replaces the internal filter but requires the dropping of the oil pan, gasket replacement and labor if you're not doing it yourself. It'll add another 200-300$ to the bill. My mechanic mentioned that it's not necessary at 35k or 75k but might be worth doing if you don't know the history of the car, car is at higher mileage intervals or if you're tracking or launching your car regularly. I'm not doing either and it's been serviced regularly. S and Manual mode shifts were like butter, it was impressive...I think it was the combo of the diff and tranny fluids done that made feel so smooth.
@@shrkys4 Thanks bro!
My S4 is currently at 115k miles and I’m getting the dsg serviced soon for $450, hoping it fixes the weird things the transmission is doing but if not I may have to do a pricey mech rebuild.
Ya sometimes the dsg if it’s tuned needs to be recalibrated so that might solve your issue as well.
Servicing dsg recalibrates gear box? I’m at 111k 2013 and it seems to not shift right when I hit paddle no dsg farts. Compared to when I bought it with 48k
@@brandon7176 no servicing the dsg I believe is changing out the filter and flushing fluids etc. if he’s still having issues they may not have calibrated the transmission. Mine was shifting funny recently and my tuner recalibrated it and now it runs fine.
@@JakeSchnatter I got the car tuned recently by 034 I did full dsg service and deferential but I don’t ever remember them saying something about recalibrating it
Then they probably didnt
I’ve have 2 one b8.5 tuned, 170+k never have issues. Old b7 4.2 200k drives excellent still. Both get ran.
Just bought a 2015 SQ5 after my 2014 S4 was totaled. Still love watching S4 content though.. hope the SQ5 lives up to the S4.
5:48 is it me or is that right-rear rotor backwards/incorrect (aren’t slots supposed to point up and back)?😅
I yolo'd into a 2010 S4 with 38k miles and did most of these things. Blown driver cat, control arms (all 8), DSG mech unit (failed even with proper service at 56k. Gen 1 lol), had a wheel bearing go, spark plugs, leaky thermostat, replaced water pump and all related cooling hoses and belts as preventative with thermo, brakes and tires, and oil changes every 5k instead of 10.
The only work I did myself was the spark plugs and installed an intake for the blower whine, so lots of labor cost. From 2019 to Dec 2022, and from 38k miles to 75k miles, I have spent just under $18k USD total to keep the car running in top shape (not including monthly payment, insurance, gas, etc.). If you can do the work yourself, its way cheaper. For example, the mech unit was done by an Audi dealer for roughly 6k. but even the whole coolant system overhaul done by an indy shop was $3600. (t-stat, w-pump, belts, hoses, etc) Labor seems to be 1/2 the cost of each repair, so anyone looking for one of these, get a B8.5 and just put money to the side.
What's a b8.5?
German quality 😂
Damnnn lol RIP, seems like you got a lemon. I also had a 2010, had it till 55k miles before someone rear ended it to oblivion. Mine was manual tho, never had any of those issues with mine just passenger door lock actuator and 3rd brake light intermittent warning that it's out. I drove the sht out of mine too lmao
Yolod in 😂😂😂😂
@@pierrex32262013-2016 years for that generation.
My b8 is at 185k, honestly just take care of it like a baby and their so damn reliable.
This is very true!
A lot of people say I’m dumb for buying one with 138k on it. It’s been maintained it’s whole life and I drove home from PA to NY with no problems. Glad to see someone with even more miles and still going
It’s only dumb if the car wasn’t maintained probably
Any mechatronic/gearbox issues at that mileage? Looking at one with 140k miles
@@dennisarnott9854 None at all. From what it seems like is it either happens pretty early or your set
Great video, currently in a 2 liter accord. I'm looking at a s4 just don't want to be living at the dealer I have to work alot.
Bra the badge transitions at 1:45 are nuts
Thank ya thank ya
Mines on 149k had the new pcv and some gaskets on the fuel rails done at audi on a recall so had them do a new water pump and thermostat to while they were down there. But not had any problems really. Running a revo stage 1+ and dsg map along with the pully intake and a full miltek race exhaust, dyno run came out at 478bhp. Had it up to 177mph and still pulling but run out of straight road and let off. I do oil every 8k and plugs and engine flush every 16k.
that timimg chain/belt is a motor out on this car? My TTS had its done at 89000 miles and it was $1500.
Am pushing my b8.5 s4 at 135k so far no problems
New subscriber! How much did you buy your S4? I bought a 2010 e90 335i msport at 79k tuned and maintenance all done said previous owner. But apparently the first 3000 miles I had it I've had to replace nearly everything which sucks. Wish I could had bought something else. Now its running prestine like brand new. I don't know if I should keep or sell and get a S4. I don't think I can get that much money out of it. And I don't want to run into maintenance issues again with the new used car. Sick S4 btw I love the color and everything you done to it.
List of maintenance I had to replaced. Crank hub, crank sensor, O2 sensors, radiator, coolant, water pump, thermostat, injectors, coil plugs, spark plugs, brake pads, rotors, lug nuts, valve cover, valve cover gasket, pcv, oil pan, belt, tensioners, oil filter housing gasket, the list goes on and on... Lol and its true about what my friends and people say, because I bought the car for 16K and all my friends tell me I bought a POS car its always at the shop or Im working on it. I barely put 5k miles over the 6 years Ive owned it. It was a very expensive fix I could had bought a M3
I’m looking into buying a 2018 s4 with 60k miles would you recommend me buying the parts that will go out at around 100k early or wait till parts start giving out?
Cleanest s4 I've seen so far
I wanna get a 2009 s5 with under 100k miles. Would you guys recommend if the service records are solid ?
that's the v8 ones, I'd stay away from those lol pretty sure those had a timing belt (might be chain) but it sits in the rear, so you gotta take the motor out from what I recall. Do some research on it
Hi Jake,do you have oil consumption?
I commented RS3 on the last video. I just knew it. Ima have to drive down to MD to see it when you get it.
Gotta test drive one first
Beautiful car man
I purchased my B8 SQ5 last year in August and immediately had to change the water pump.. It wasn’t too bad after the fact, I do majority of the labor on my cars myself so I dodged that bill😅
Btw, I bought it with 97k as well lol
I’m still curious why mine hasn’t failed yet but majority of the labor wasn’t done myself due to my lack of car knowledge a year ago
Water pump and thermostat are known issues... blame it on the plastic manufacturing pieces. Same in VW as well.
True
@@JakeSchnatterhow is the car holding up now?
@@JuergenGDBIt depends on the year, they fixed that by 2014 or 2015
My 2005 BMW 120d auto hatchback 153k miles, in repairs has cost me £12,000, that does not include servicing. Remapped to 300lb-ft/200BHP. Bought it for £25k new. I have Boxster so need a 4 seater…
I’m planning on getting a S4 but I’m scared of getting it because it’s a 2012 B8 that just hit 100k miles, decently serviced (family friend owned it) but he’s said he hasn’t have had any of the common B8 S4 issues. I see people talk about the Timing Chain and even though I wrench on all my cars I don’t want to deal with the headache of something like that or pay thousands to get done.
Whats the deal then if you do the work yourself? buy parts and start changing everything important. See with him to lower the price if some maintenance is due to be done. Inspect the car carefully. Get the work done on weekend. You people need to get more patient. Do something every single day or on free days. Replace all liquids, check the pipes, replace brakes if needed, replace all original parts that might give your trouble. Cause if he didn't do anything that means car is maybe ready for some new parts. But check it, inspect the parts and see if you need to change it. And always get a new timing chain when buying used cars. God knows if someone changed it or not. You can't really trust anyone.

Where do u put your front license plate ? On your audi , i just got one and putting the plate in the front just a ugly look lol
I don’t run a front plate
I have a 2018 RS5 with 81k miles and a 2021 G82 M4 completion. Love the em both dearly. My daily has been the M4 recently but the B&O sound system and all wheel drive that my RS5 has makes it my preferable daily.
I plan on keeping the RS5 as the daily and buying a Ferrari F8 at the end of the year or Q2 2025. Excited as hell, only issue I had was the cast defect that caused my rocker arms to explode so I had to wait forever with warranty to rebuild my engine due to back orders.
I spend like 300$ on dsg service in Europe in s4 b8.5 so why you spend a lot more? how much was parts and what exectly you done?
Makes sense why it’s cheaper in Europe. Did you pay $300 USD?
@@JakeSchnatter Yes around 300 USD but execly 1500 PLN. Did you change your Timing chain or not yet? its prety expensive thing...
No you don’t have to replace the timing chain on the b8 unless you are having issues with the tensioner.
What do you think about buying a 2012 a6 with 131k miles the dealership has no records/receipts on how it was maintained they have it at 10k I’m very iffy on it cause I don’t know how it’s been treated, any advice or suggestions?
My suggestion is to not buy German cars. You can lease them, but never buy. Even the cars with good engines and transmissions are loaded with bungled electrical designs that cost a fortune.
Did you ever buy the a6 cause I’m looking to get one as well
Damn that hella miles ❤️
Watching your video in class lol
Eyyy
What tint do you have in the front
How much did you buy it for? I’m looking at a couple 2013’s. Trying to go for under 85k miles, and they are looking around 23k and below
I got mine stage 2 for 25k but mine is also a rare color
Hey, would you recommend an Audi A4 1.8tsfi 2013 at 58k kms?

So I should buy this s4 today???
anyone have advice would a 16’ B8 in good condition for 60k miles be a worthy investment? First time owning a German car

I thought models from 2012 onwards are b8.5, until generation changed in 2016 or 2017
@@Mike-lt6sjlmao what ? 60k u high ?
Yea dude it’s fine. I’ve had 3 different 3.0T’s. 2 a6 and 1 s4. Miles ranged from 110k, 220k and 170k. Great motor
@@eazy_e.7153 No. I had a friend who bought one. Constant problems. I also know someone with an S6 that's done for with low miles, paint started cracking and now the motor is blown.
But what about 6 speed manuals?
it's about normal for control arms to only last 60k-100k on any car and us enthusiasts are always going to spend more than an average driver because we're crazy about keeping our cars perfect. My srt4 needed control arms constantly until I got poly inserts for the rubber that usually goes in, shitty Los Angeles roads wreck suspension parts, even wheels sometimes. I'm really considering getting an 2016-2018 S3 because I think they just look awesome and it's easy to get up to the level my srt4 was at with a few bolt ons and a tune (350hp on 91, 400hp on e85), albeit the S3 is a heavier platform, I'm willing to sacrifice a little bit of speed for looks and comfort in my older age. Nice car man.
i got control arms and cv axles replaced for fraction of that price. you need another mechanic and another parts store
I owed a 2011 b8 S4 for five years. It had 159,000 miles on it when I traded it in. In fi e years I had to replace a wheel bearing and a battery. If you abuse any car or don't do proper maintenance, you will have issues.
Where did you get that steering wheel???

I hope to get an Audi S4 , later this week....
There might be problems with these cars but they still look really good & are great in the snow & super fast
what year is the car?
What RPMs at 90mph? Is it manual?

Its a fully custom exhaust! I made a video on that as well!

I’m getting a 2013 s5 with 114k miles should I worry about timing chains or tranny I test drove it and it drove really nice
😂
Why not both?
Lol 5500 ain't nearly what I expected. That's cheap. I come from the baja offroad world and 5k is a drop in the bucket. Dope whip do you regret going auto over manual
What size rims?
A4/s4/a5/s5 are the cars people buy, drive the piss out of them while they are still under warranty, then dump em. It's not really the car itself but the kinds of people who buy them and how they drive them.
I would say stay away from norther cars. Bought a 149k S4 that was originally started life in the NE. So many rusted and stuck bolts. I have a feeling this car will be the end of my breaker bar.
Yooo you got robbed on some of this stuff. PCV and supercharger intercooler can be done at the same time.
I can't remember if Mounts need to be moved for the cats or vice versa. I had them done at the same time because I know the labor can be shared.
They are pretty reliable but the price of part is expensive. I remember when the intercooler were $100 each then they've gone up to $250 when I sold mine

Bro just suction the oil out… no need to lift it. Oil filter is up top too
To be honest almost all cars need something at the 100; 120k miles… it’s something that happens. Are something more expensive than others yes; but getting a car close to that mileage range; you better be prepared for spending.
Also less than an awd 5.7 hemi… spark plugs alone cost me 250 w autozone employee discount… oil change was almost 150… my front brakes were nearly 400; the rears w e brake pads; same if not more. I should have gotten the s4
i got my 2012 s5 4.2 v8 6 spd manual, and since day one its had trans problems, it went out and i paid a good 20k to install a new trans, stage 2 clutch (handles up to 400ish torque) and a new flywheel
20k for a trans is wild you got f*cked
wait till you gotta do timing...whole engine comes out
2012 model is the better model that has less issues with the timing chain
appreciate the in depth list of pricing

Why the heck people call high mileage a 120k miles car like wtf man ,I always push my cars for over 200k like right now I have a audi s5 with 235k that's high mileage
235k, you’re definitely the exception
11:33 You mean like that kid Izzy
Hey now…
Literally the worse way to change the oil on an S4. So much easier with a pump/fluid extractor - the car stays flat, no need to undo the sump plug etc and everything accessible from the top.
Really 😅
Dam over $200 to replace your PCV . That's a $8 part on my civic that is east to replace on your own. No reason why you should have to pay someone hundreds of dollars to replace a PCV
Money Pit! But if you have a you tube channel with lots of clicks you can afford it $$$$
Also keep in mind this is tuned car = more $$$$$
My Jeep has 187k miles on it . People need to stop considering 100k miles "High milage " bc to me it's Not
Bro what camera

my moms boyfrinds have the audi s4
Damn how many boyfriends does she have lol?
Sorry to hear about your suspension costs, but yeah, all German cars ride like they do because of them, and yeah 3 more components you gotta worry about than your mom's Camry 😂
for ur next car go either Daza or b58
What makes you say that?
@@JakeSchnatter cuz there both amazing for tuning and would love to follow a series with either of those platforms. Always something more you can do

Ya but dropping a lot of money on a newer car and losing in depreciation is something I can’t afford right now which is why I’m not looking at that car right now
At least the a90 Supra from 2020 will hold better value than a bmw sedan even if it does have good tuning ability and the Supra has the same engine but is rwd but the channel needs more variety not just a AWD car.
