Advanced Frame Sport review

  • I recently purchased an Advanced Elements, Advanced Frame Sport inflatable kayak - I was hoping it would give me a really nice kayak to paddle without all the loading/unloading/storing hassle of my 25kg Riot Edge 3. I'm finding the older I get, the more I struggle with getting a traditional kayak up on the roof of my car - not to mention putting it back in shed and raising it back up into the roof space out of the way. The AE Sport only weighs a little under 12kg and fits into a case the size of a suitcase. Sounds great...but is it? Thanks to Emily at Ozinflatablekayaks for her speedy replies to my emails and quick dispatch of the kayak.

    Inflatables are the answer to storage and transporting issues, I agree John. We have had a Sea Eagle FastTrack double inflatable kayak for a couple of years now and really enjoy using it. Ideal if travelling long distance to a holiday destination, without the worry of kayak/s on the roof of the car.

    Great mate. Thanks for taking the time to post up a review. Had pretty much decided on one... but your review just confirmed it for me. Cheers 🍻👍

    Thanks for showing how you exit the kayak. Most videos don't show this, and I've found it a bit trickier than exiting my hard shell. I'll try your method next time I'm out. Thanks again for taking the time to make the video.

      Cheers Allison. I've always found entry and exit a tricky maneuver unless I'm at the beach where I can wade out and straddle the kayak and plonk my bum in, then tuck the legs in.

    Thanks for the review! This helps as I am about to buy one today. I'm worried about this model vs the red one that's $100 more because I don't know how wet I will get with the big cockpit in the Sport model and the lack of combing. I'll be fishing on the ocean a lot, do you think that is important?

      Cheers Ron. While I've never fished out of a kayak in the ocean, I have had a small wave crash over the cockpit and dump a fair bit of water on me when the wind came up quickly at Kingston SE. So yeah, if I knew I'd be spending some time on the ocean, I would want a proper spray deck. But keep in mind a spray deck has to be reasonably tight fitting to work properly which is going to limit your access into your cockpit. I usually find I need two hands to get the spray deck's bungee seated properly around the combing - something to contemplate if you will be needing to grab pliers/cutters/net etc plus rod storage. I went for the Sport model for the quicker setup and the lighter weight over the std. A bit of closed cell foam cunningly pegged to the combing should also work well for a bit of splash protection.

    Great video thanks! Can you advise how the seat attaches and how you would rate it for comfort? I intend to paddle for 2/3 hours.

      Thanks Damian. I think it just clips in with a couple of fastex buckles (been a few months since I was in it) so you can position it where you want it. As for comfort, with the std floor, you are basically sitting on a li-lo supported by water....very bloody comfy!! Pretty reasonable back support too - I've probably spent 1 1/2 hours in it a few times with absolutely no problems.

    Thanks for your review. I am very interested in this kayak. I would like to know how tall you are or if in your opinion it would be suitable for people who are 6'3" tall. Unfortunately I can find almost nothing on the net about body sizes for this boat.
    Thanks a lot, Nico

      Cheers Nico. I'm only around 5'7" so I would be guessing your feet will be on the bladder - mine are a few inches back and I have the seat most of the way back. Emily at Ozinflatablekayaks would be able to answer any questions about height/weight etc and advise if there is a more suitable model.

    It looks fantastic. What is the machine that passes you at the 2.45. point?

    • @quedecree
      @quedecree  Před 4 lety

      It's a weed cutter. There's 2 or 3 of these that are constantly cruising around the lake cutting weeds and then loading them onto a truck. Without which, the lake would be pretty much choked with weeds.

      @@quedecree Ahh thanks it's a weird machine.

    Hey, whats that thing mounted on the top in front of you?

    • @quedecree
      @quedecree  Před 3 lety

      Just a piece of blue closed cell foam that serves as a floating camera support. I call it 'floaty cam' :)

    Do you have a spray skirt you'd recommend?

    • @quedecree
      @quedecree  Před 3 lety

      You can't really fit a skirt to the Sport's combing. I've just laid my half skirt around it and it sort of stays in place. I've seen others use a bit of foam cut to an appropriate shape and held on with a couple of clips. The Red non-Sport version has an inflatable combing that does accept a skirt I believe.

    Is it good for rivers?

    • @quedecree
      @quedecree  Před rokem

      Darling, Wimmera and Murray rivers - sure, no problem. Even the sea is fine if it's not too choppy - ie: Port Phillip Bay on a calm day. However, any waves will soon find their way into the cockpit so I'd stay out of too much wind / choppy conditions.
