Great video in 4k! I personally take this route when driving into NYC over the Holland Tunnel since I like that it connects you directly to midtown Manhattan
Driven this route many times. Like all other entries to Manhattan, skill and patience are required. Tight lanes, sudden stops, nuts behind the wheel, they’re all here, in all their glory. In the AM rush, the XBL reverse traffic lane is open and the bus riders laugh at folks sitting there in their cars.
I would have suggested filming this road during morning or even rush hour, so you can film the exclusive bus lane in action. Busiest bus only lane in the USA.
I was just stuck in this last Sunday - was at a Jets game in the pouring rain and stuck in traffic on this very route. What I need to learn is the shortcut to avoid the Helix - which is that long curve down to the tunnel entrance- usually takes a long time to get through. You can get off at that last Hoboken exit and there's a side road that cuts in the very right at 6:26 - avoiding that whole traffic jam. I hit it once accidentally and haven't had the time to look for it again - I'm usually in the left lane when I hit it because it's always been the EZPass lane and it puts me in the center tube where I know how to get crosstown on 36th and don't have to fight at 42nd (look at the signage at 11:40 - nothing about crosstown).

This was supposed to be part of I-495, but due to Highway revolts in NYC, they couldn’t make the Mid-Manhattan Expy. To connect Long Island (Queens, Brooklyn, Nassau Suffolk) to NJ. Thus, this is called NJ-495. That’s why NYC LOLs at you drivers to blindly look for the Lincoln Tunnel/Queens-Midtown Tunnel. And that’s why I-495 should be renamed as I-96/Cross Long Island Thruway.
Also, Not only does NJT, Greyhound, Coach USA, Peter Pan, and other transit companies go on NJ-495, but MTA NYCT also uses NJ-495 & NJ Tpke./I-95 to/From Manhattan-Staten Island for these Express Bus Routes:

There's already and I-96 in Michigan if anything it can be renamed i-98

All those EW interstates in the 90's would be out of place in the grid. I-78 goes through the Holland Tunnel. I-80 is north of where NJ 3 leaves I-95 but ends in Teaneck NJ, never reaching NY. Don't hold your breath if NJ 3/NJ 495/NY 495 ever becomes an interstate of some sort.

Well, no. It was supposed to be part of I-495, but due to Highway revolts in NYC, the Mid-Manhattan Expy. Couldn’t be built. That’s why. And that’s why it’s NJ-495.
