- REEL STREETS OF MELBOURNE - EPISODE 18
During May, June and July in 1996, Jackie Chan came to Melbourne to make his latest action comedy.
At 4:48 I say it was shot around '95. It was actually 1996.
They shot scenes in Carlton, Melbourne CBD and Doncaster among others.
I attempted to find these location during a winter that was absolutely freezing with excessive rain.
Interview footage of Jackie Chan is from SOH Talks & Ideas Archive

Thank you for making this I could not work out the Doncaster location and a few of the CBD surrounds (Fitzroy/West Melb). Unbelievably I took a tram into the city along St Kilda Rd into Swanston st when we were unexpectedly held up and had to get off. There were huge crowds and guess who was filming. I was ecstatic to see Jackie back then in the 90s as I was a huge HK film fan. Will never forget that opportune moment :-) Thankfully also remember the ‘old’ Melb Central before it’s makeover. And you are correct about the new wall behind the red brick building in there. It used to be much more open.
Looking forward to watching this. Thanks Paul !
This was enjoyable and informative. I remember hearing reports about the shooting of Mr. Nice Guy on the radio. I knew someone who was an extra. I think she could have been an audience member in the cooking show scenes shot at Melbourne Central. A friend's father had a shop in Collins Street. He is a keen amateur photographer, maker of home movies and a film buff. He took a strong interest in Mr. Nice Guy. At the time he mentioned seeing the crews setting up for the stunts done near Princes Bridge.
Thank you Paul! Great job. Keep going please more videos love the local locations.
Thank you for making this video. You did an amazing job. I live in Michigan, USA and hope to visit and find these locations.
Nice work Paul. Love your sense of humour. Keep up the good work 👍🙏🏻
thank you so much for doing this. I love the jackie chan movies, especially the ones from the 90s cause I grew up with them. Theres not too many filming locations videos for jackie chan movies and some of the locations are hard to track down. Really nice work!
Some scenes from his movie "First Strike" were also filmed in Australia. Would love to see a video on that film as well.
I saw this in the cinema, was great stunt work, I remember the gold coast scenes also
The shops have changed quite a bit. I recognised Batman Records (RIP) store I used to go to all the time.
Always a great journey thank you Paul !!
I remember when working in the Flinders Street Extension When They Rehearsing A Scene In The Side Street Near The Old V/line Yards Were Opposite The Trade Centre

If I lived in Oz id look for Richard Nortons BJJ studio and endeavour to train there with him. I imagine the stories hes got about working with Jackie Chan and Samo Hung would be brilliant and inspiring to hear 😎👍
yeh hal ashby would put the stunts that messed up at the end of all his movies,, like harold and maude when the car didnt stop and went over the cliff.
