@blueasblueis great name isn't it? Thanks for your comment on his voice, it seemed like the right voice for his character.
As a retired manufacturing-jeweller I'm quite familiar with silver, gold, & rhodium plating techniques, so I know that fictitious metal would've been extremely toxic to have in a plating-solution!
However, I it found interesting that Asimov didn't correlate this sort of outcome with the sort of weapons chemists were creating during the First World War, especially as this story was published in 1940 during the early years of WWII!
