  • JJ Cale and Friends at The Roxy - Wash DC 10-22-86 - 2nd Show
Here is my version of this show made on my trusty Beta-Max.
Ian was running the show at this point at the Roxy but Dave R borrowed my deck & got in in during the 1st show and it remained for this 2nd/Late show.
Dave Redman (not his real name....) and I started running camera soon after this show as Ian had to leave for reasons I'm not aware of. Dave, for some reason has gone completely insane and has come to believe we never worked together (for 3 1/2 years) at The Roxy and is making claims that I never worked there at all! As absurd as this is, it rankles me that our memories could be so different but screw it - I'm sharing all I have despite Dave and his greedy intentions. If these Roxy Shows are not Master Tapes, they are 1st Gen's as Dave & I lent whatever to each other as requested but usually whomever was working, we had the other's deck also (Dave was VHS and I was Beta-Max) so usually there were two master recordings made.

I’ve just discovered JJ Cale and I’m 64 years old! I’ve heard his name mentioned in quite a few songs but never thought to listen to him! He’s really awesome and my girlfriend likes him too and she’s a big country music fan! He’s on my playlist now for sure!

I didnt know Christine played keyboards too, and quite well at that. Really nice to see her expressing herself more...she seems so shy usually. Bunch of songs here by JJ i have not heard before . Sounding good ! I can hear the same elements of style from him that I have heard before and come to love so much ! I think maybe he did get considerably more low key laid back later in his career. I especially like and cherish that I finally stumbled on to him a few years back now and that he has such a superb and novel playing style along with his great lyrics . Really a laid back virtuoso ! Thank you JJ for enriching my life ! RIP

Seems like the perfect career to me. All the song writing royalty money without the bother of being recognized where ever you go. It's amazing how many hits this man has had. Just with somebody else as the face you relate it to. Call me the breeze, Cocaine, After midnight. The list is long. everyone knows the songs even if they don't know the man.

Thank you! So very clean and excellent. Perfect year for it as well. Sorry to hear about the greediness over the credits, etc. Music has always brought out both the very best & the very worst in people! What we're seeing in your upload is the very best of JJ Cale, and it's crystal clear (most of his live show uploads are absolutely dreadful!). Nice to see it getting a healthy nmber of views as well. Take care!

Thank you for sharing this great J.J. Cale material. I've been at his show in the Hague (the Netherlands) on 22nd september 1994. As I have all his albums in vinyl and/or CD I was surprised at the great instrumental number starting at 12:35. What is the name of that sond?
That is so J.J. Cale: touching the soul !
