RIP Dickie! The Allman Bros. in Heaven!
Great to see new comments.
This hits me right in my soul . There will never be another combo the same. Each hits each lick just right. Man. Good music.
Well, well, well, that was pretty good! Three outstanding guitarists and a rock steady rhythm section, and Gregg.
I saw one of the nights of the live at the fillmore shows for my first show. I had never heard them up to that point but what an enlightening experience their set was. It changed my life forevermore. Ive seen them 49 times total. And never heard them do a bad show. I was blessed to be able to experience their music through almost all of their incarnations.
Blessed 😊
@@donwoodard2204 Awesome to see people still rocking.🏝
3 times, once with duane 😎
When I tell you that you suck, I mean that with respect-got to see them 49 times-I can only wish. So happy you had that experience.
Rock and roll at it's best!!! So awesome!!!! Saw them in concert several times! Never disappointed!!!! Thank you Allman Bros Band!!!
They bring everything to the dinner table no one goes hungry. They never try to act like who's the better chef they just cook
And serve their Dish
Well said!
Great comment!
Oh hell yeah 😅
My father returned back from Da Nang, Vietnam in 1971 & got assigned to Langley AFB in Hampton, Va.
Once getting settled in school & making some cool folks, I got wind that the Allman Brothers Band would be playing at Hampton Coliseum and admission tickets were $5.50- $6.50- $7.50.
Seeing the dual drummers, Dickie Betts & Duane Allman playing at centerstage & Greg Allman set at left stage performing all their songs off Live @ the Fillmore East.
I can close my eyes listening to this & re-live that ceremonial evening before Duane's misfortune.
Praise the Lord for me finding this~!
Luckily not all American men did what Gregg did...
....and many wish they had.
AMEN
Wow I'm Blessed to see them several times over the years. What I would give to see them again. Watching this still gives me CHILLS down to my core !! I had a really cool uncle that was only seven years older than me and started me on the live concerts experiences when I was just 13. Then I started dating my forever husband when I was 16 and we have continued the concert journey ever since and I'm now 59 and he is 60. Yes long marriages still exist. We still continue our concert journey, what is left of it. We never had kids so we never had any distractions to see the best of the best at any given time. We just caught the Eagles with The Doobie Brothers again. Highly recommend that show. I live in a log home with towering ceilings. One of the best things I did was install terrific speakers that will make the windows vibrate.Good thing I live in a rural area when I have the windows raised ,lol !
It's a miracle we still both have good hearing 😅
I hope this is preserved in the Library of Congress vault at some point; if its not already. Just freakin amazing
I'm pretty much of an Allman Bros. collector. I first saw them when I was 15 and now I'm in my 60s. This is the first time I've seen this video and I love it.
It's pretty cool. Love the pictures of Duane fishing and smiling.
@Michael Kean Ask mommy for hot pocket woke loser. I don't usually insult someone but why even write that? So sad
I was at this show. Clapton played two nights. If you listen to both, you will observe that he practiced after the first. This was the result.
This closing set with Eric Clapton is nothing short of epic...seeing the looks that the musicians all give each other is showing of their pure joy in playing together that night. God Rest Gregg and Butch since this evening at the Beacon, what a tremendous gift for all of us!
Warren Haynes is a legend in his own right. Thank you sir.
...remember that summer when we saw him with Gvt. Mule, ABB and Phil...and then his iconic solo set from Bonnaroo??? Legend indeed, hardest working bloke in the biz
Greg Allman....greatest blues vocalist in my 63 years. No white man can sing the blues like Greg did. R. I. P. Greg..together with Duane jamming in Heaven. No DOUBT
He was Ray Charles in another color. R.I.P
It does make you wonder what they're doing now, far and away in another reality.
Janis could
@@tagaudi He said "man", not "wo-man". As good as she was, she can't be lumped in with Gregg, Ray, or even Bill Medley. Or Bobby Bland. Apples and oranges. Sorry
@@markcorley Gregg was a musician and a crazy good one Janis was cool but she was a singer Gregg could do it all

Joy T. Pulver: Beautiful verbiage. You placed this video into perspective. Thank You and God bless
Their is more talent on this stage, then all of todays music combined,, Except for The Allman Betts Band,, Thanks for continuing the best of blues, rock and country. Scotty From FL.
Shut up scooty!
Your so right..Thats a fact..I wish we could have saw Eric Clapton and Dickey play together though..also..
@@imayjustlooklikearetardfor8306 After 2 years I just saw this,, that's how important it was,, who pissed in your cornflakes ?
I would respectively submit that the Tedeschi Trucks Band is keeping the candle lit.
@@imayjustlooklikearetardfor8306 what rock did you crawl out from under..
Hard to believe there are 11 people that don't like this.. in the whole world!
One of them is Bobby Whitlock
Yeah, well 99.9999...% are...
They probably thought it was the Jonas Brothers, with Eric Church..
Saw Derek when he was only thirteen in Orlando Fl. If you closed your eyes, you'd swear we were listening to Duane. People were Dumbfounded. This is pure Gold.
Thanks for the answer to my question, Derek is he an Allman?
@@jeffmcelroy5168- Derek is Butch Trucks son. Butch was one of the original drummers for the band!
@@jongray4828 Derek is not Butch's son. He is Butch's nephew.
Derick's father is Chris Trucks
One thing I have to reminisce about is seeing a13 year old guitarist open for Buddy Guy in a funky legendary concert venue in Tampa Fi. called Skippers Smokehouse . He played a Red Gibson SG then too. He was the only teen in that band they were older players but very good. They played Whipping Post and my hair stood up. And later he was invited on stage to play with Buddy and he shined. Buddy smiled from ear to ear . One of my best concert memories in 51 years of concert participation. Oh yes! I almost forget the kid was Derek Trucks.
Skipper is a great venue. Derick is awesome
@@michaellewis3254 ..indeed, Derrick is so cool.
Daniel - I believe I was at that gig as well! I was there for Buddy Guy, who never fails to amaze, and I was blown away by the little blond-haired kid! I'm thinking this was in the 1990 - 1992ish timeframe?
@@sheckyvision That time frame sounds correct. I was there for Buddy as well he’s a legend. I was skeptical when that little boy came out to open for him but he and his band won everyone over . I was surprised and delighted to hear a young slide guitarist play at the caliber he displayed at 13 years old , Buddy was too.
@@discovan4436 I heard that Skippers is going to reopen in some manner. I never hear anyone say a negative thing about Skippers only fond memories of great concerts.
This blew my mind . Absolutely fucking amazing. These guys are on a whole other level together. And that was before Clapton came on . Maybe it was the half bottle of Wild Turkey honey. I intend on finding out tomorrow when I watch it again. I've always thought if God was in a band he would be ripping it up as lead guitarist. This was definitely a divine performance 🙏💚🎶🎸
I can say so much about this time and performance, but I'll just say (is) such a musical treat in every way possible to us all as a human race...Thank you gifts of guys and for letting y'all persons to be use as the instruments of the key notes of life itself with music...GOD BLess...
Saw the Allman Brothers back in the day and remember thinking "wouldn't it be something to see Eric Clapton do a set with them"... and now. Wish Dickie Betts was there but what a great performance. I know it's a joy for Eric to get back to the sound he loves, with real musicians. Loved Little Wing. What a show.
Lucky man
I love how committed Eric is to being a member of a band. He's as big a star as there is and CLEARLY cares about contributing to the whole song, not just a solo part set aside for him. It's inspiring in its own way.
@@bcpiet60 If you think that the Layla album was his first big album, you either missed some fine work he did with The Yardbirds (1963-65), John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers (1965-1966), Cream (1966-1968) and Blind Faith (1968-1969) before he recorded that album, or your musical tastes are somewhat limited.
YES ...Bass Solo of Little Martha - made the start of my day..... going out to play on the Hudson....and the Mt Jam :-)
i was lucky enough to be at both nights with EC and down in front! this was the second of the two & in my opinion the better of the two nights. they were really locked in. brings back great memories... what an amazing run... amazing band.... AMAZING guests.... top 10 musical experience... tough to beat! CLAPTON IS GOD. THANK YOU FOR POSTING.
RIP BROTHER GREGG RIP BUTCH RIP BERRY RIP BROTHER DUANE
15 years ago and still so great!
I can say 1000 things about this band but since I heard them back in the 70's The Allman's have been HOT.
Wonderful. Warren is such a great player.
I could watch this all day everyday what a treat on the 4TH of July
My first time watching this video too on the 4th of July... great artists
As a rhythmically challenged white man this band helps me to dance my ass off even though I resemble a muscle spasm when dancing!
Sounds like me when I get DRUNK at wedding's 😂😂
WOW Huge respect love all these guys Clapton a legend of course but Warren and Trucks are more than brilliant
I remember back in the late 60's when ABB would do a sat night show at the Warehouse in NOLA they would do a free concert at the pavilion in Autobon Park on the river on sunday afternoon .
was at this one - blessed.. stormy monday is a tear jerker
I saw this show, and several others on this Beacon Residency. This was special though, as it was the Allman's 40th Anniversary Tour. Words dont do justice to how unreal this was ✌️
WOW just WOW. 3 of the all time greatest guitarists ever on the same stage and more importantly. making it work. I knew that Clapton was a legend and Haynes was a monster, but Derek Trucks OMG. He doesn't even break a sweat. All 3 were fantastic. If you don't love this, then you are a hopeless guitar snob.
Simply the best of best!!! Just close the eyes and listen to ...
These are Masters. They are truly, UN-paralleled in what they do with these instruments. God I will never understand how Butch Trucks could take his own life.
Depression alcoholism and taxes is a horrible thing and Butch couldn't deal with it
@@garyordo886It may be a morbid thought on my part, but there have been many a good blues songs written about all three of these conditions, sometimes individually, and sadly at others simultaneously. One about the tragic losses endured by the Allman brothers band over the years would be a fitting tribute to the fallen, and possibly a cathartic one for those left behind. There may have already been one written and I just haven't heard it yet, but if not, there should be. Peace, love, and eternal good will to all who read this. 🍑☮✌
Believe you me,I’m a diehard ABB student.Seen them at least 20 times from the beginning till now.But in line first comes Clapton.Given the history for both, what a body of work. It’s 2009 and ECs never been more comfortable and happy. Thank you,Rocky
Always a treat to watch this - again and again.
GOD, I MISS THE ABB!!!!!
Thanks, this a sheer joy to watch the interaction between Warren, Derek and Eric in Why Does Love Got to Be So Sad. But then Eric looks like he's having the most fun he's had in years and is playing his arse off on everything and the ABB are clearly digging it.
He said later, that this was the most inspering experience of his life, true. And so he played.
@@philfrank9226 ..you know, Eric really does enjoy seeing the guys who learned from his techniques come into their own. That's a true mentor and friend.
Greg Allman an American Beauty
Think this is the first time I have seen Derek smile while on stage
Derek was on fire the moment he hit the first note to the very last!
Holy shit!
This show is incredible!!! This is one of my favorite concert videos. I am old enough to know and appreciate the original band and I loved them so much. They have done such an awesome job bringing back The Allman Brothers Band. AWESOME!!!

Got to see them in the early days with Dickie Betts. Best band of ALL TIME! RIP Bros.
A brother from another turned me on to these fine musicians many years ago in the mid 70's, it's been a thrill ride on them ,till my dying days I will cherish their music.
That would be the Grateful Dead but the Allmans are a top 5 live act of all time for sure.
Clapton was on his tour and took a flight from New Zealand to be there, after it, he resumed his tour. He also had to learn the songs.
Great playing as always, you can put Clapton in any band, regardless of the genre/style of music, and he will fit.
Disagree. One dementional. Blues.....his slowhand nonsense was horrific. Great at Rock / Blues....but hes no improv guy.Jeff Beck Jimmy Page Frank Zappa could master ANY GENRE. BLUES ROCK JAZZ FUSION METAL ...ANYTHING. TO ME ERIC CLAPTON IS LIMITED . YOULL NEVER SEE HIM USE A CELLO BOW OR A WHAMMY BAR
@@peterbartolomeo956 I didn't mention anything about improvisation, but still, how a guitar player that NEVER plays the same solo twice isn't an improv.
Clapton won't use a whammy bar because he uses his left hand for that, not needed.
I disagree completely with your opinion, and it seems to me that you just like a showman instead of a guitar player.
I love Eric Clapton alone, but he doesn't mesh well with but a few other players. He has become comfortable playing solo, and can come off as a bit of a stage hog. They're all giants, and they were all hot on this night! Great show!
@@davidmccall4776 You sure about that? I mean, he plays (or had played) with tons of different players and I wouldn’t say that, remember there’s Crossroads festival.
In my opinion, his versatility is one of the things he’s praised of the most. He can fit in almost any genre with any band.
@@matiasneuweiler662 Check out "Right place Wrong time" with Dr John for an example of what I'm talking about. I'm not taking anything away from Eric, he's the absolute best at what he does, I just prefer his solo gigs over those with other guitarists, especially if they're from predominantly non blues based genres. ☮✌
Actually, I'm Debi's husband, Bud. I've read through these comments and believe I must be one of the oldest here. I first saw the ABB in 1970, in Raleigh, N.C. when Dwayne & Berry were alive. Now I'm 70+ and still listen to the greatest Southern Rock band, PERIOD! I live in Texas. I got to see Stevie Ray, Roy Buchanan, Billy G, David Gilmore, Derek Trucks, Leo Kottke, Danny Gatton and many, many more. But I consider Dwayne Allman to be the greatest white guitar player ever.
yo just young
Mr. Bud Peterson, you've seen some of the best & I'm envious. In 1970 I was too young to see that concert. I'm from not far south of Raleigh, but a little closer to Wilmington. I only turned 16 in Sept. of 70 so the parents wouldn't let me go. By the time I got to see The Allman Brothers (1972) sadly, Duane was gone. Don't know if you remember but the song "Layla" was released that same year (1970). I've been crazy over music since the Beatles & Ed Sullivan. So when the Layla album came out I was just gone. Every song, "I Looked Away", Thorn Tree in the Garden", "Layla", all of them were phenomenal to me. From that time forward I have been enamored of Eric Clapton. I've been to see him every time he was within 200 miles. I thought the term "Clapton is GOD" was blasphemous but truly believed he was the penultimate of the guitar...even though every time I saw him live, the songs from that album just didn't sound quite the same. I put the difference down to it being a live performance, small change ups, not being in a sound studio, whatever. Anyway, a year or so ago, someone on youtube posted a breakdown of the song "Layla". In other words, in this video you get to hear Clapton's guitar & nothing but, then Duane's guitar & nothing but. I was so blown away. Everything I had loved, everything I had believed to be Eric....was not Eric at all. Don't get me wrong, I still love his music & think he is one of the greatest guitarists ever. But since I heard that video, I've paid a lot closer attention to Duane's playing & I have to agree with you. Duane Allman had a way of making the most beautiful sounds come out of a guitar. His abilities with that instrument are unsurpassed. I could listen to him play for hours on end with no accompaniment whatsoever. It is absolute beauty to my ears.
I just to say this band is want those best from middle 70 n now with Eric Clapton it’s was cool jam you guys forever 😎🙃😉😝
Why hasn't this topped a million views?
Concert videos have never really been a thing, been a few mainstream exceptions like Stop Making Sense or The Last Waltz, just usually not something most people budget into their day.
Wait a bit
Saw Allman brothers band in 2018 at State Pier in Portland, Maine! Awesome music! I bought the Night Rider T- shirt!!! A lifetime treasure!!!
Best person to fill the unfillable shoes of Duane. Rip Dicky your guitar playing and songs altered my conscience in joyful ways
Fantastic show. One of the best bands ever!!!! And of course Eric. real musicians.
Great quality. Killer. 3 lead guitarist, knocked it out of the park
They were simply the best.
Derek's solo on Liz Reed is UNREAL.

What an amazing recording. Thanks for posting!
2:09:41 - a slight misstep by Eric, for which he immediately atones with a terrific solo.
2:24:30 - EC loving what DT is playing.
I can' t express what this finest singularity means to me especially at "In Memory of Elisabeth Reed". Three world class soli and Gregg and Butch and the wonderful rest of the band.

This was a great choice of tunes for all players involved. I've seen the original ABB when I was young at the Warehouse in New Orleans. I've seen Tedeschi Trucks Band, Eric Clapton, and Gov't. Mule individually, and this just makes a 70 yr. old man happy to come across the video!
