      @frowlinian8175 Před 6 lety +3

      Alex Grube it's also alot more to do with the other people rather than the person driving the vehicle. For instance I live slightly outside of a town (about 2 miles) and the speed limit used to be 55 with a "cautionary" 45mph speed because it's a residential area... which isn't enforceable... long story short a few of my neighbors felt unsafe because the actual speed limit was 55 and when they went to get mail or take out their garbage there would be trucks going 65 2 feet away from them so they lowered the actual speed limit to 45.
      It's perfectly safe to go 55-65 on that road, it's dead straight with no hills and good visibility, but there are kids and deer and all that stuff to think about too

    • @LickingBugattis
      @LickingBugattis Před 6 lety +2

      Alex Grube no, if people are going to speed anyway, we should have the speed limit lower than higher because if the speed limit is raised, theyre just going to speed over that limit

    I hate when cops feel the need to set up speed traps in rural locations in the middle of nowhere. The speed limit in that area doesn't make sense to begin with. Who the hell is going to go 35 mph in that place????

    If all these cars are going the same speed, it seems that THAT should be the speed for the road. Its not like everyone was driving unsafely. Setting a low speed just entraps people for no good reason.
    Raising revenue isn't a good reason.

    • @Richard-md3gi
      @Richard-md3gi Před 7 lety +4

      MsMsmak speed limits are set on road conditions(ie curves, width of road, etc), areas (ie business, residential, highway), and number of intersections and driveways. speed limits are not set on the speed that most people decide to travel.

    • @bestbomb17
      @bestbomb17 Před 7 lety

      +Richard Inyagills but some roads have speed limits set yet people drive much faster and traffic still flows smoothly..... there's one road near my house where the limit was 50....couple years later they dropped it to 45 for one side of the road, yet the other side was and still is 50 and its in a residential/school area but the homes have large driveways/clearings so the homes are way off from the road

    • @Richard-md3gi
      @Richard-md3gi Před 7 lety

      dopex2xdeath doesnt matter what people drive or how traffic flows, speed limits are legally set limits based on mathematics. if a new house was built or an additional driveway was formed that put that side of the road into the 45mph category then thats what happened. i want to go 85 everywhere i go, i have the skillset, i have the vehicle to do it reliably, but laws limit my conscienable ability to do so.
      we have a road called Shore Dr. here, it was a 45mph road. nothing changed on that road for many years and yet the snobby locals decided that 45 was too fast for a 4 lane highway so they decided 35 was a good number. the petitioned the city and the state to change it on demand. the refused based on mathematics and the law determining the number of entrances and exits on that road....so these rich ass fools got together and figured out they were 15 driveways shy of reduction so they spend an estimated $150,000 in pouring additional driveways to force the city to reevaluate the speed limits. after the speed was dropped the city had the authority to develop natural lands because it crossed the threshold. so after 3 years they built 20+ new buildings with driveways...the rich residents tore up their false driveways, resodded their yards and today the limit is 35mph....with stop lights(which were calibrated at 45mph traffic), crosswalks, school zones, it now takes 35minutes to travel down a road that used to take 20.

They are ignorant about the fact that speed control on open roads (not neighborhoods) has never been shown to improve safety, there is highways with 55 mph limit, 65, 70 and 80 it is all arbitrary! Germany has no speed limits on highways! Several counties in US has changed the speed limit back and forth on the same roads based on their money need! Yes it is a tax system and big money to insurance companies who are eager to increase premiums! And hello who doesn’t exceed the limit at times other than idiots and grannies (understandable in that case) even cops have never stayed below the limit it is all a joke

      keeping them taxes low

    • @PBMS123
      @PBMS123 Před 7 lety +5

      Haha, are you serious?
      Any 'misalignment' of a radar will work in the drivers favour and not the police's. The maximum speed they could get off you is if they were right in front of you and you were travelling straight at them. Any angle reduces the detected speed as a product of the actual speed and the cos of the angle off straight.
      It does not 'easily cause' accidents if you're doing the speed limit where as the flow of the traffic is not, sit in the slow lane and everyone will overtake you. Speeding causes accidents as well, even if the flow is speeding. Speeding also increase the rate of mortality significantly.
      If you have a problem with speed signs or vegetation obstructing speed signs, then talk to the local government/council or whoever and get it fixed.
      Speed traps are called that because they are positioned in places where people are known to speed, and that they are positioned in such a way that you will not be able to slow down before a speed is locked in, they trap you.
      As a driver of a potential 1.5tonne+ weapon, it is your responsibility to do the speed limit, and obey the law. If you cannot maintain a certain speed for a reasonable amount of time between checks of your speedo, you either need to give your licence back, or perhaps learn how to do it. Not to mention the fact that most post 2005, and even post 2000 era cars have cruise control, you should be able to maintain your speed.
      You know that police run speed traps, and generally speaking you wont get done for 1-3 mph over the limit, anymore, then you deserve a speed ticket. You can argue that it is "revenue raising", but the great thing about it, is that you only have to contribute to that revenue, if you speed. If you don't speed, you won't lose any money.
      Speed = possible fine
      Don't speed = no fine

      If he's passing someone he can do the speed limit. The speed limit, is just that, a limit, as in not going beyond it. This technically includes the passing lane. Regardless what lane you're in the speed limit applies. Different lanes don't have different limits, its all the same.

    • @PBMS123

      Actually people do brake when they go down hills if they start going faster than the speed limit, its called driving. The brakes are what slows you down, in case you didn't know that already.
      You know what you could also do, which would save you more money, not speed. That way you don't get fined, and you don't have to spend money on a radar detector.

      +Hazm In Canada, it's very common to drive 20km/h over on highways and freeways. On residential roads 16km/h is kind of pushing it, and might net you a ticket.
      From what I hear from my friends in the states, 10mph is common but anything over this is grounds for being pulled over.

      Hazm No police in the world would ever attempt to cite you with this. The courts would instantly throw it out. However, I have actually gotten cited for 3km over, but only because it was reduced to this from like 25km over by the ETF randomly.

    • @HAZZAFIER
      @HAZZAFIER Před 8 lety

      John Cartwright Its usually the speed cameras that do it and you just get sent a fine in the mail and everybody just pays it because it would cost more and not be worth the hassle to go to court, usually. This is one of the reasons there is a huge argument among everyone about whether revenue raising is an issue within Victoria Police.

    • @jcartwright87
      @jcartwright87 Před 8 lety

      Hazm Which province? I've never heard of a speed trap giving less than 10km/h leniency. There are many reasons for hover slightly above or below the speed limit, i.e., maintaining the flow of traffic. In fact, these cases are extremely easy to win considering it doesn't account for average speed given a distance threshold. Ontario for example has eliminated the usage of speed cameras because they lack context since something like 2006.

I admitted it was my mistake and that I hadn't been down that road in at least 20 years. He let me go after saying he didn't want me to start my new year off with a ticket. Although somewhat narrow this road was straight and flat with homes on one side. It's very hard to only go 25 mph on that road. Really makes no sense but it is what it is!

    Most speeder are just an infraction of law, not even an arrest-able offense. Police on traffic enforcement are simply tax collectors for city hall. We complain about crime, then place police in position where there actions has nothing to do with the prevention of crime or the enforcing of law.

    • @ikillbugs
      @ikillbugs Před 7 lety +3

      You just contradicted yourself. Writing a ticket for an infraction is enforcing the law. Even minor infractions must be addressed or human nature will take over. If speeding is ignored, it won't be long before people are driving as fast as they want regardless of what is reasonable and safe.

    • @1armyag
      @1armyag Před 7 lety +2

      ikillbugs : A crime is different from an infraction. You can be arrested for a crime. An infraction is a non- arrest able offense. Infractions are one of many tools city, county and the state use to get tax money. As a tax payer I would rather have police preventing crime rather than enforcing infractions.

      One cop did light me up once though (still in opposite lane/direction), but I think it was more because he heard my engine at high rev and me flying past a car in another lane....I did slam on the brakes but he was just giving me a warning I guess

    This is what I have been trying to say for many years how police would literally wait until you’re right up on them to read your speeds. So having a radar detector would help in a way long as you have someone or just others in front of you to shield you from radar reading your speeds.
    See the difference….so basically when using a radar detector your more like 50% safe against police speed traps vs 0 meaning driving unprotected.

      according to our traffic laws over here the advisory speed limit on unlimited roads is at 80 mph. Of course, before pulling over you look into your mirrors, but you don't have to expect them approaching at their top speed. Driving faster than 80 mph also the one who didn't "cause" the accident is liable; I don't push it too far, depending on the car I don't drive faster than 125 to 150 mph, but there are of course people driving way faster than me; When someone pulls over in front of me (with some good distance, but with me still required to brake quite hard but without coming too close, the other driver did nothing wrong). The faster ones have to adapt to the slower vehicle's speed, not the other way around
      I don't know how it's relevant how long someone is driving to work or so, but my drive to work and back home is approx 1 hour, plus up to 12h driving during my work

    • @94fleetwood49
      @94fleetwood49 Před 5 lety

      EnjoyFirefighting - International Emergency Response Videos
      Never said anything about driving extremely fast like over 80MPH. I'm simply talking about 70mph or a few over isn't much. I've seen car "join" the highway while going 50-60 while everyone is going 70mph ----->that is a major problem. Driver should join in the enter lane to match the speed of the cars in the highway.
      Too many times some people driver as if they're the only ones the road and as long as their under the speed limit-----they're good. By law, yes they are ok, but they are still causing obstacles on the highway that make it more difficult to navigate already.
      Glad in 4-lane highways(2 in each direction) its illegal to ride the fast lane unless passing. City driving with 3 lanes or more, unfortunately the slower not aware of their surroundings drivers switch lanes out of nowhere into more faster lanes because they can. Forcing backups and unnecessary braking and have to switch lanes just to pass them.
