    One of the best lectures I've seen. There is no youth culture movement because all the corporations have everything sown up. Individual vision has been crushed underfoot and homogeneity is allowed to thrive. We need another McLaren.

      Reporting for duty. These pop culture leaders didn't go far enough they worked though corporations. The truth about the two great wars and modernity is hard to handle. The nazis made big money, and the winners from that racket run the big businesses of today.
      The authentic is inevitable.

Days later we discovered he was unwell and then soon diagnosed with mesothelioma, a form of lung cancer caused by exposure to asbestos many years earlier. Some believe this exposure occurred when creating the shop on London's Kings Road referred to during his talk." -Ted

    I understand what he's saying, but resent the equivalence made between "karaoke" and "inauthentic"... Karaoke isn't always authentic, but people who believe karaoke is inauthentic: [1] believe in a very simply idea of authenticity (an absolute divide between authentic and inauthentic), and [2] have likely not sung karaoke enough to have the authentic experience you can have singing your guts out (and it IS a messy creative experience if you push honestly yourself)

    • @llengsuch3426
      @llengsuch3426 Před 3 lety +4

      Yeah, you've kind of missed the point. The point being: technical musicianship, expensive equipment, and experience was subordinate to youth, enthusiasm, and libido (energy plus sex). That was the magic formula that Malcolm recognised in Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis, the early Beatles. That was what had become old, stale, and repetitive by 1975.
      Punk was about a burst of fresh, young, creative potential. It blew up, left a massive mark, and reverberated for a long time. However, the trappings of punk were quickly commodified and corporatised.
      For further info, I recommend you watch "bill drummond - the birth and death of punk", here on CZcams.
