Sup brother. Latest updates on overheating is mainly all screen on time. It’s what’s burning things up faster than cards, battery, etc. limit your screen on time to get longer times. But you can use cards / battery in camera since they don’t make much of a difference anymore.

I’m glad you touched on the customizations. This camera can be set up for anything the way you want it. I set up shutter for center point and AF for wide selection. I use the C1, C2, and C3 for different photo and video configurations. You also have to set up the AF cases for different situation. The most customizable camera I have ever used.

R5 and A7r IV owner. Adapting gets annoying for your normal non telezoom lenses. I think for the average hobbyist/semi pro, sony is still a much better $$ value in glass and body. I only got the R5 so I wouldn't have to buy an A9 and run the A7 riv. Will move back to canon slowly for everything. It would be really nice if Sigma would release RF mount glass. It's kind of a bummer to be on a mirrorless system just to adapt old dslr glass.

All my EF mount lenses work great with the EF to RF drop in filter adapter, the eye tracking AF is amazing, I rarely look through the EVF when I cover my events, 8 just look on the back of the LCD to compose, the optional BGR-10 dual battery grip works great. The AF on the canon looked amazing and the fact you can adapt a wider range of lenses, at a more economical price than going full native.. + you get all of the advancements of AF mirrorless is amazing (eye af etc). It's just a shame the R5 has been ”oversold” due to the 8k overheating ”issues”.

it would be great to hear your thoughts on the R6 if you manage to rent one? More for the video side of things. I still believe the R6 should offer some kind of 4k 24/30fps recording mode like the R5 has, that "doesnt" have a limit. It's not worth $3.8 with known thermal issues and ridiculous workarounds. From what I can see and tell apart from the canon auto focus the R6 literally has nothing the S5 does and the S5 is nearly £1000 BP less! On the topic of the auto focus which again camera conspiracies showed the auto focus on the R5 was/is absolutely terrible in low light conditions!. Effectively the Sony A7S3 just kills the R5 off in terms of video that's pretty much accepted now and ya I think the S5 kills the R6 so I don't really see any market for either. Apart from the R5 as an exclusive photography camera!.

So it's going to have to try and suck heat through the plastic where it attaches behind the LCD and of course plastic insulates heat!. So I don't see how that fan is going to one penetrate that plastic and two extract the heat through that plastic!. I honestly think if it makes any difference it'll be negligible at best.

The overheating is practically solved with very easy, small hacks.
    1) If you get the overheating sign, just stop the recording, increase the day of the date by one, and then rapidly remove the battery. Turn it back on, and you are good to go again without overheating (source: www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=24827.msg230515#msg230515 )
    2) No life did also an internal test of 8k IPB with a tiny 40mm USB fan pointing towards the temperature sensor and got over one and a half hour continuous 8k recording without any overheating. (source: czcams.com/video/_K5HG1rlnVc/video.html )
So, the R5 is a killer cam with these workarounds.

The jumping ship business just doesn’t compute for me. People who jump must have lots of cash. I like my money too much. While it was clear to me that Canon was getting further and further behind back in 2017, I still had too much invested in gear for it to make sense to jump. It was not like the images sucked, either. I was getting shots that held up against any system and I was not doing video. I watched as many Canon users sold off their gear. Heck. I was the one buying it. I got my 500 mm f/4L II in brand new condition for half price because of the sell off. Now that I have my R5, I feel like a frigging genius for being too cheap to jump ship. So, if I had Sony gear now I would stay the course. They will be leap frogging each other every iteration so switching is just going to drain your bank account. But I am almost fully ML now...I feel all I need is an R7 with a crop sensor to complete my package, stilling using several EF lenses, too. I am not selling off my EF glass if it can perform at 12/20 fps on the R5, no way. That RF glass is nice, but sharpness is not king, content is. Content will win out 10 times out of 10, so slow down on the spec war, as gear just needs to be good enough to allow the content to show through.

No one is saying 61 MP isn't needed and that doesn't matter, as those who want it can have it. In the same way, 8k is needed by those who want it. Canon is number 1 in the market. So I guess they’re not worried about you switching back.

Spiro B [crew] have you tried the native lenses. They are incredible. I bought 3 last month. The 70-200, 85 1.2 and 28-70. All my Ef glass stays home with my R.

Dynamic Range is why I don’t want Canon

R5/R6 still have 14 stops DR, it's not bad as everyone else said

@@zegzbrutal its actually 11 stops been proven on multiple videos. I am just gonna go with the A7SIII as a B camera to my RED and keep my 6D Mark II for photography.

I made a mistake. I was supposed to mean 12 at base ISO.
And from the chart, R5 is still higher than all Sony a7/9 except a7S3. It is not a big deal to fuss on. IMO, only the artificial overheat timer is a critical issue. And that only concern to Videographers. For other kinds of shooters, R5 is a decent choice.
