    This camera is a hell no at this price. This camera definitely was supposed to come out earlier, the old menus, the screen and the fact it doesn't have a card slot for their new memory cards tell the whole story. This is a $1200 camera, that's where it should be or less.

      I could see it being like $1398 max - original price of the A6600, and then it would be a "maybe" for those looking to do mostly video, with some photo but want a full frame, instead of APS-C. But, a person who does video more seriously (beyond vlogging) or those who shoot weddings (photo or video) it is a second camera at best as it has no 4k 60 and not dual card slots.

      $1200 is expensive either. This is 2020 not 2017 for 4k30p 8 bits 4.2.0. Shameful Sony.

    I am missing this:
    - front dial (as A7iii)
    - joystick (as A7iii)
    - bigger 4-way control (as A7iii)
    - AF / AEL switch (as A7iii / A6300)
    - custom buttons (as A6500)
    - 2nd card slot
    - EVF with least .71 magnification (same size as A6xxx)
    - new menu system
    Some of those could make the body 2 or 3 millimeter bigger, but who cares. It is all no rocket science to add those stuff. Sony just left it purposefully away to make people want to upgrade when they release mk2.

    This camera should’ve came out before the A7siii and people wouldn’t be as upset when the A7siii came out because it would make that camera shine even more, and they’d understand why it didn’t have the new menus or the BOINZ XR sensor. It’s not priced competitively enough when the A7III sells for about the same. The smaller form factor is not worth dropping the second card slot and other compromises. I wonder when an A7IV is coming though. What will it be priced and how will the A7III and A7C price be affected?

    It's kinda the opposite of what I would have hoped for. I'd have been happy to take aps-c in an a7iii size body if it gave me 4k60. I'd have thought we would get a new line with the aps-c sensor in a bigger body to mitigate overheating and allow 4k60 and better IBIS.
    I'm also happy to wait it out to see 4k60 in aps-c rather than spend a tonne more on the a7siii.

    • @lawrencesayshi

      That would compete SO well with the Fujifilm XT-4. They absolutely need a new APS-C sensor, though. Maybe 26MP with better low light. Bigger body can also add more dials, more buttons, bigger screen, dual card slots, etc and would SLAP. If that came out at $1799 I'd get it in a heartbeat.

  • @davidschloss2656
    @davidschloss2656 Před 3 lety

    The majority of cameras purchased aren't by photo-savy CZcams followers. They are purchases made in places like Best Buy, and they're consumers stepping up from a phone, where a compact body and a full-frame sensor are very high on the feature requests. Not every model is designed to be for all customers. The a7C isn't supposed to replace the a7III, it's specifically referred to as part of a new line of compact cameras. So see it as it is, the first in a line of compact FF cameras, not the replacement for the a7 III.

  • @IMDABROWN
    @IMDABROWN Před 3 lety

    Think you hit the 'nail on the head' at the end. If the a7c had 4k60 you probably wouldn't get the a7siii or the a7iv. But as I said years ago, until people stop buying Sony, Sony will keep releasing cameras people don't want. Canon finally came to the realization and as you said "they are killing it"

  • @XDario91
    @XDario91 Před 3 lety

    They clearly cut out 4k 60p in order to not choke the sales of future a7iv and a7cii. I think for a lower price it’s still a great option for prosumers who like to travel. The kit lens is a good option considering range and size and there are fixed lenses with very high quality and reduced size.

      @sizzlemann Před 3 lety

      Nope! I'm a full time travel vlogger and I wouldn't buy it. Kit lens is pathetic for vlogging!! Most vloggers use the 16-35 mm lens. 28mm isn't even close to being wide enough for vlogging.Right now for travelers/vloggers, the ZV-1 is a better camera and less than half the price.

    I really don't understand why it doesn't have the updated menu system. I would have thought that would be an easy add in. I wish they would have the grip and EVF style form the older A6600. I'd go for silver personally. I don't think it is overpriced for what it is. I'd wait for the A7Cii though, it is rumored to come out ~October 2022, should have the senor form the A7iv, better IBIS, and the new menu system.

  • @Ramotttholl
    @Ramotttholl Před 3 lety +1

    I love the 2 tone frame with the nice dark orange accent.
    But other then that its a no for me. intro camera's for me are around 1k.. if its almost double then i might as well go and save up another month and go all the way to an a7RIII.
    I had the a7 for a year then went to the a7riii as the a7 helped me look for what i needed in a camera there where only 3 things i had a hard time with. a lack of Animal eye focus and the small dynamic range i just kept having problems with where the biggest 2. the sharpness as i'm a cropaholic was the other.
    and sure the big 2 have been indeed been improved but for my liking the price is now to close to the big boys. so in my opinion its not ment as an starter camera but more like for people who want a full frame version of an APS-C camera which well sounds like a really niche group to me.

  • @albedo0point39
    @albedo0point39 Před 3 lety

    I would have bought this if it had the new OS/menu system. I’d like a smaller camera for travel, since the a7 series have been getting heavier over time.
    I’m tired of the old menu though... and now they have a new version for the s3, they just can’t keep selling old tech.
    Also I really believe that the new HEIF file format is going to work well with mobile devices - and they’ve missed that off too. No buy for me.

  • @charmerci
    @charmerci Před 3 lety

    It's more to have a compact traveling camera, not a camera to make full length films. I'm more frustrated at the bad IBIS and slow autofocus as noted by Tony Northrop. As for the price, I don't know why people are complaining when compact APS-C cameras are going for $1300.

    I’m a photographer, so I don’t care at all about their video specs. Could have been 720/24, and I would have been pumped for this if it had at least the same number of buttons and dials as the a7R3. But as it is now, video guys don’t like it, and for the reasons I just pointed out, stills people don’t like it either. They could have crushed it with this compact form factor if they didn’t hold back. And, as for me, I strongly prefer the silver version.

  • @Reno_T
    @Reno_T Před 3 lety

    I totally agree with you! I think it’s mainly targeted at aps-c Sony shooters that want to have a compact FF body but I don’t understand some of their decisions. The only explanation is, as you said, that Sony planned to release this camera in 2019.
    I’m a Fuji shooter but I want to add a Full Frame kit in my « bag » but this one is the right one. The real issue for me is the EVF and back screen, they look really bad!
    And for the color I’m not sure, I have to see in person cause the silver looks like a cheap Fuji :-)
    Maybe A7IV at the end of the year :)

  • @TheWoolyninja4
    @TheWoolyninja4 Před 3 lety +1

    It looks like this camera was suppose to come out way earlier and they didn't fix any of the issues and they didn't lower the price because they want people to be all over the A7IV when it comes out. I think this entire C platform is just a reason for Sony to keep riding out the profit on the older sensor. The A7IV will come out and then at some point the A7CII will come out and it will be better but it will still have the older sensor and thus Sony is still making money off their older investments as they push people into full frame.

If it has 4k 24,30 full sensor 10bit 4.2.2 and 4k 60p 10bit 4.2.2 even with an APS-C crop like the S5!. With Sony's autofocus and lens selection I really think if it has those important features and 24,30megapixels to take good photos and good low light again I think it'll be the best hybrid camera unbeatable!. Bingo. 4K60P, a better EVF, better video codecs......Ver.2 would get all of that, since all of these are easily fixable. As it stands, the camera form factor, along with the flip-out screen, and the removal of the fake EVF hump etc is perfect in my eyes, with the removal of the EVF hump (clearly a dinosauric carryover from the OVF/penta-mirror/prism hump from the DSLR) increasing portability a TON by flattening out the top of the camera.

    Hi. Unfortunately the price is very very high, very close to the Sony A7M3 and if you are looking for a second camera this is a very bad option, it does not serve as a professional camera and you cannot cancel the electronic curtain to better synchronize with flashes from other brands like Godox. The only good thing is some improvements in Video, Recording Limit Unlimited and the NO shutdown of the screen shooting in 4K using an external monitor.
    To all the comments if you need 4K 60p, 120p & 10bits you are going to have to buy the Sony A7SIII if you are really a professional video shooter.

    Yeah missing 4K 60 is a big one for me. I like the flip screen but not liking the evf. It does seem like Sony is holding back on things so that they can release version 2 in 6 months and get people trapped in the upgrade cycle.

    Hope nobody is going to hit me for what comes - i am convinced that Sony knows far better what they are doing than the net. Beyond specs I find it cool that there is a small ff camera out there with the potential for a price drop if markets should make that necessary. Or a price drop on the second hand market, as welcome for me.
    Menu-system, who hates it more than me, hands up. If i want to change anything on a Nikon camera, it sort of changes itself. Sony - I never find what I want while I am shooting. After several failures I might painfully work out, how it could be done.
    Are all Sony shooters like me? Don't hope so. Some kids like the Sony menu because it's closer to what they know from a smartphone, to my knowledge. Kids who don't have a clue about gear beyond instagram filters
    Could Sony easily implement the new Menu system on the A7c? To my knowledge yes if they also put the newer processor in. Which again contradicts the relatively cheap .... Obviously in the chip shortage, Sony does not want to sell cheap at all. Will that situation be over some day? dunno

    The big a question is what if people waited the a7iv and it turned them down, if people went out to buy this camera now , sony will be encouraged to further future crippling. And by the way; dear photographers ; get yourselfs an a7iii instead of this, it's the standard undefeated champion hybrid camera since it's lunch.

    If they had the codec options similar to A7S3, who would buy the A7S3 anymore? If they set the price at $1200, they blow their entire APSC lines off the water, and not only APSC cameras but lenses would stop selling. When Sony started, they had no legacy mount to protect, a complete white paper. Now they are the most mature mirrorless maker, and cannibalization concerns have started to set in. Whereas, Canon and Nikon have accepted their DSLR mounts are no longer going to power them on and have thrown everything onto their mirrorless mount. So, I predict very interesting times ahead. (I'm a Sony shooter, but I just get their obsolete cameras which are much cheaper used.)

    They should make it without IBIS for $999 to compete with Canon RP. That would sell a lot.

    I actually think this is a clever move by Sony (apart from the old rubbish menu system). The true tech savvy content creators amongst you will be waiting for the Sony A7IV anyway which will have everything you want, at the same price of around the R6 "without overheating". This is just a simpler, cheaper, more compact version aimed at a new type of consumer. Travellers, vloggers and people who may not be as accomplished with cameras and dont have the hardware for 10bit 60fps video editing etc. The consumer group Sony are aiming for really dont need these. All the tech savvy content creators will fall in love with Sony again once the A7IV comes out!!

    The menu system, the custom buttons and that EVF....
    - Menu system: Would have been good to have a touch screen version of the AS3
    - Custom buttons: I mean really...
    - EVF: don't really fancy jamming my eyes to it. If it's as crappy as it has been reported in terms of viewing quality, Sony have dropped the ball... Biggly!
    I was going to upgrade my a6400 but I will pass. £1900 in the UK body only and £2100 with the kit lens, Sony has got to be on another planet. Oh well, just have to wait and see what the competition comes up with. There is now going to be a race to beat Sony at releasing a compact FF camera, and a decent one at that too...

    This dos indeed look like it where meant to be launched prior to 2020 as a compact stripped down A7iii. However I really don’t get the product to begin with, why would you even want a slightly smaller FF with a pretty bad grip, with a tiny EVF that is only useful with pancake lenses. The moment you toss a good lens on it you’ll end up with an almost equally sized system as it’s big brotheren, then you can just as well get its big brother the A7iii. Is $1800 to much, obviously yes, but Sony isn’t going to make a stripped down A7iii drastically cheaper. Sony still has to think about that this camera isn’t going to cannibalize on existing producs so pricing it like this kinda make sense. I don’t really get the fuss about 60p most manufacturers who dos a FF 4k/60p are getting there by reducing how much the sensor is used and even then overheating is a still an issue, you know like Canon, so untill you’re allowed to use the whole sensor 60p makes little sense on a FF camera.

    Sony is pulling a Canon, they are following them now it is a shame. Silver is cool. Graphite silver look was awesome for the Sony A6000. They should definitely do a firmware update for the menu system. I really hope it works with the Sony LAEA5.

      All the reviewers, who got a copy to test, are going to say nice things so they keep getting the freebies and products to keep testing. Anyone with a negative review gets cut off from that camera manufacturer. You want real reviews, watch the people who spend their own money to rent or buy the camera.

    I don´t know what Sony is doing... The ZV-1 seems like a much better buy for a vlogger. But someone needs to tell Sony that a vlogging lense should be around 20mm, not higher. Sony seems to think that vloggers have 2m long arms... To expensive also! Jesus! Holding out for A7IV...

    Im a Sony shooter but won’t buy ANY new camera body from Sony without improved menus and vastly improved network connectivity. They all take fine pictures. I want a user interface that doesn’t make my eyes bleed and for it to automatically upload my pictures wired/wireless where I want them without touching the SD card or using their horrid apps.
    This camera has the old menus and does nothing to improve connectivity so it is dead on arrival to me.
