I'm not sure what training you've had since you posted this video and or any changes you may have made to this kit since, so as a trained EMT I would like to make a few recommendations.
First of all if you have not had training I suggest getting some, most local hospitals and the local Red Cross hold Basic First Aid classes which can help so much more than trying to find something in a rush from a book.
    KIT RECOMMENDATIONS:
    1. Get rid of the hydrogen peroxide... WHY... When your skin absorbs hydrogen peroxide, it can reduce the amount of fibroblasts, a particular cell that is imperative for cleaning and repairing damaged tissue. It can cause the wound to become larger by the H2O2 eating away at the healthy flesh as well. My recommendation is to stick with wound flush or you can use Saline solution aka Eye Wash or Eye Irrigating Solution which is a good sterile solutions that is used by all medical persons to clean and flush wounds.
    2. Trauma sheers are a must instead of those little scissors.
    3. No one should use a tourniquet unless your properly trained to do so, otherwise you can make a bad situation worse. Stick with packing the wound and using direct pressure, you can actually use the BP cuff for the pressure.
    4. You showed a BP cuff, however, I did not see a stethoscope which is needed to us the cuff. Also, one size cuff will not work for everyone, I carry a kit that contains a thigh, a large adult, adult, child and infant cuff. For laymen it's easier to use a digital blood pressure monitor.
    5. An pulse oximeter is a very good device to have in your kit.
    6. Definitely need more gauze, woven and non-woven gauze, not only in the 2x2 but also 3x3 and 4x4 sizes. Also, trauma pads/abdominal pads and several sizes of roll gauze too.
    7. I would also get some eye wash cups and pads. These actually can be purchased as Eye Wound First Aid Triage Packs, that have the all the essential supplies for treating basic eye wounds.
    8. Also, replace the medical tapes you have with Coflex or Coban tape and Silk-like Surgical Tape in 1" and 2" size.
    9. Might also include sunscreen als well.
    10. A more rolls of elastic bandage with hook-and-loop closure in atleast 2 of each size 2", 3", 4" & 6" width.
    11. Some instant cold packs
    12. Flexible Foam/Aluminum Splints like SAM or Flex-All Splints, large and finger.
    13. These are two must have in your kit... 1) White petroleum Jelly: Protects the skin from wind burn and chapping, protects minor scrapes, burns (do not use it on severe burns as it can cause infection) and cuts it keeps wounds clean and moist but also provides an occlusive layer, thus keeps the wound covered decreasing the risk on infection. Apart from that, it hydrates the wound stimulating the healing.
    2) Honey: Has been used in medicine for over 5,000 years. It has antiseptic and antibacterial properties and the darker the honey, the better its antibacterial and antioxidant power. It can be used for many things replacing a lot of the chemical medicines in your kit, it can aid in decrease the severity and duration of diarrhea and block the actions of pathogens that commonly cause diarrhea, it can reduce or even eliminate acid reflux, of course it helps as a natural cough remedy, it can be used to give you energy, can be used if someones blood sugar levels drop very low and with on going research more and more uses are being found. One of the best uses is with wound care, chronic wound management and combating infection. Manuka honey (Branded as Medihoney) has been found to be a more effective way to treat chronic leg ulcers and pressure sores. When I had my nose broken during a rescue and it was bleeding profusely we packed it with gauze permeated with honey and an ice pack to the outside, the bleeding stopped within 10 minutes and no infection occurred unlike the time I had it happen in a car accident for which it bled for an hour, I ended up with an infection (LVH f-ckedup!!!) and ended up hospitalized in a better hospital!

Thank you for this! I have not changed much in this kit. I have received input from various people and have added/deleted as advised. I will take the time to go through your recommendations and go through my kit. This is supposed to be a level up from the basic. I know there are intermediate and advanced kits, which I have wanted to put together. Thanks again!

    • @TheresaForino
      @TheresaForino Před 3 lety +1

@@justvgarcia3881 I know preppers stock up on the stuff, I even have it because I have cats and take care of ferals but you have to know proper dosing, and what and what not to use it for, it does nothing for a cold, most common stomach ailments or dozens of common medical problems. Fishmox is ment to be diluted in water based on size of tank and number fish for several different fish dieses. If you under dose it won't work and if you overdose it could be harmful. We have a problem in the USA with over using antibiotics to the point that they are starting to become useless in some situation. Children who at a young age are on antibiotics so much it is been found that as they get older the antibiotics become less effective for them.
So in a first aid kit or trauma kit I'll say no to fishmox and just go to your Doctor when it is needed

You need more gauze and pressure bandages. I reccomend israeli bandages because they are best and large wounds. Have different size gauze pads such as extra large to small. I also would recomend multiple gauze rolls. Plus a great blood absorber and cheaper then israeli bandages it maxipads. If you want something you can find at the dollar store buy maxipads they are great for absorbing blood. Having eye wash is allways usefull. I also recomend having rubbing alcohal. It comes in a spray bottle and very usefull. Lastly have some medical shears to cut clothes.

It took me about a month (for each box). I started by getting the box at Walmart and buying her eBook ($10). Then I bought section by section. For eg, I did all the wound management and allergy in one trip - so that I felt like I finished something. If it was part of one section and part of another, then all the items in those sections wouldn't be crossed off. So finish one section at a time.
