What are your thoughts on the New Perfect Dark Gameplay? Does Joanna Dark closely resemble her real life counterpart? Note: Don't mind my voice and how I look, I just woke up during the time of this pre-recording. It's about 6am during the time of this recording XD
It is not about the size of the jaw but the shape, and not just the jaw. Looking at the real world model they used, she doesn't look like the game model, only the eyes and part of the face, but the jaw and the areas near the jaw don't look like her, because they made a male anatomy in that part on purpose. Olivia Wilde has wide jaw bone, but it's female, and the overall face looks female. For example, on the sides of the mouth going to the cheek bone and back of the jaw, the shape of the face is difference in a male than a female, and this difference is present in the girl they used and the game model.
Yeah they definitely added some "Modern Audiences" crap to her. But the game does look promising and i will bee waiting for more information on it before i decide to give the game money or not.
The female jaw bone, has a soft and wider angle compared to male which is sharper in the part that connects the jaw with the skull. In the chin part of the jaw, the male is also more blocky and sharp, the female one is softer and ends in a more round and in point way. Can't explain it better. They know that many people don't see this because you need to study anatomy to see it, so they are clearly manipulating us, mixing male and female facial features. Baldurs 3 did a lot of this.
Some women that have it like Morgan Webb look feminine still, but not sure how many men, but enough don't like it. Here she just looks masculine and plain, which was the intended effect. You can look at her and tell the game will have no style, presentation, just serious and "realistic" because woman beat up men all the time. BG3 committed all of the Progressive sins, just people excused it because of good gameplay and D&D stans.
@@blumiu2426 Looks masculine because the jaw bone and the fat pads, and muscles in the lower part of the face are from a man. This is anatomy, and I explained it in my comments. Olivia Wilde has a big jaw, be it's still female. Unless you understand anatomy, you can't explain it without learning anatomy first.
@@gamingtemplar9893 Yes, I can read lol! I was agreeing with your comment. I study anatomy too since I'm an artist. Women can have strong jaws too, but indeed the structure is different. They are going for androgyny in their looks.
I agree with yaw. Some people that can tell something is off about Joanna's face. When you compare Joanna to the model (Elissa Bibaud), the chin or jawline is more prominent, it's too masculine. You can tell that they made it on purpose, because how do they nail the backgrounds and environment, but they can't get the faces right correct? It's not like they would have to do that much to fix her. Just shrink her jaw/chin, give her better hair and a body.
Joanna Dark looks the actress Olivia Wilde with little to no makeup LOL The game does look promising but WHY cater to lowest common denominator, which are the weirdos?!
@@gamingtemplar9893 dude male jawbone? There is no such thing It’s wide jaw or narrow It’s not a thing - the camera is low below the chin - it’s how characters look - she’s looking above the eye level

I’d need to see more shots to make a judgement call personally. Though I still agree with what you said about aesthetic art style over a realistic one. I’d prefer the aesthetic art style too.
I don't know what T gaze is, but the models don't look the same. The real model is a woman, the game model is different. The size of the jaw bone does not matter, what matters is the shape and other shapes in the near area of the face, which in the game model are male. These anatomy details are not that easy to see without understanding anatomy. They did this in other games like Baldurs 3. No one ever looked at Olivia Wild and say that has a "male jaw bone" because she doesn't.
I'm so tired of game developers scanning real people instead of hand crafting original character models. These 3D scanned character models not only look boring and off puttingly uncanny, but they also age like💩compared to more stylized ones that were designed to be beautiful and appealing.

6:45 I had not read this. It's interesting they're giving her an origin story, instead of making her an experienced character. Still, I don't understand this push to make female characters androgynous. They really wanted to bring attention to her jaw and chin with that initial shot, they even made her hair shorter. She was pure femininity. Imagine if the next james bond is fat, short, bald and wear glasses. That'd be realistic and it would pander to how the target audience looks. I bet people would love it
Never got a chance to play Perfect Dark back in the day! I WAS aware of it though! Sadly nowadays I need to wait to see if these remakes will be shit or not! (usually they're shit...)
The game market forget one of the core thing you need to make a great game making a iconic and memorable character, they had one in the first game, but this new design makes her look plain and forgettable, which is a shame because the game does look interesting
Who thinks, upon news of a game to be released, I really hope they make ultra realistic graphics on the humans in game? When watching a cutscene with such characters you spend more time thinking "Uncanny Valley" than following the plot. And these graphics deteriorate at an alarming tempo. We don't need to see an Actor/NPC or PC with the same number of muscles and pores as in the actual human face to connect with them. Checking out any animation like old american ones, anime or even something like Pixar's WALL-E proves my point.
It's not so simple my dude.. The human face is the hardest thing to get right.. Devs spend more time on a face than anything else.. But the look..the feel..the motion of it makes it drop into the uncanny valley fast It's not even a matter of more pixels on screen..it's about performance captures..which you can't do for every scene in big games. Helblade is a great example..it took over 5 years to get it looking that good..and the game is almost a walking sim.
I don't care what anyone else says, that is a Man's Jawline, people that don't think so, need to look at a Male skull and then a Female's before saying that to me.
Bravo. What I was explaining. There is this guy in the comment saying that woman and man have the same Jaw bone. And it's also the facial structure. There are 3D artists and experts in anatomy speaking of this, and a random joe comes and says anatomy doesn't exists, crazy. And the Olivia Wild argument is incorrect, Olivia has a wide jaw, but the shape is still female.
@@gamingtemplar9893 Yup, I have been studying Art independently for many years and know there are clear differences between men and women, besides just the chest which is where most non-artist(or non specialist in any human anatomy) knowledge generally stops, and Olivia Wild does have strong jawline for a female, but when I look at it, it still looks female, I think the people that say otherwise haven't studied basic Human anatomy.
@@MugenLord No, the actress's jawline goes in at an angle, but the 3d models is closer to a 90° angle, while Olivia Wild does have a strong jawline for a female, it most certainty is not 90° like a Male jawline and the 3d models head is way too big for it's face much like a male, unlike the actress's face which fits her head perfectly, essentially, the 3d model has way too much chin and jaw for a female.
Honestly, i ditched perfect dark, once i realized you could still get shot in pause, but I'm way past the point of not caring for realistic graphics anymore. Its kind of a shame that the barbie doll looking model on the cover of the n64 box looks better than the new joanna, but I do agree that it doesn't look that bad, its just not close enough to the original.
I'm of the group she doesn't look bad BUT that initial Angle, the Jawline does look hideous. The other image from a more front facing angle looks much better and as Mugen stated the Hair which firs Joanna Dark's Character does her no favors. In the end I'm not gonna fight for about her looks but what I'll say is, Pick better models , looking at you Fable
I'm not holding my breath. The window for me being hyped for a true successor to the original is about 5 years too late. Plus with the state of the industry as it now, I just can't trust anything that comes out anymore as not being just a bit too woke.
Her face isnt bad, isnt an ugly woman and looks a lot like the model. However for me they made her jaw a bit wider as well her neck, could be the outfit she is wearing that make her look like that. The image where she is pointing the gun looks a bit better, I dont think is the hair, could be something with the zipped up jacket or simply the jaw is wider wish is no surprise for me, something need to be adjusted.
Personally, I'm gonna have to disagree about the model. She's not ugly by any means, but she's painfully average at best in my opinion. I always expected Joanna to look like a bombshell movie star, a femme fatale it you will, but this reboot made her so look so bland. I'm not exaggerating when I say I've seen middle aged wine aunts that have an uncanny resemblance to her at Costco. Game developers are misusing the idea of "realism" by stripping games of their fantastical elements and making everything so dull. The fact they refuse to let Joanna be feminine like she tells me everything I need to know about the developers' mindsets, so I have no faith in this game.
Couldn't have said it better. She really looks bland...like she doesn't grab you as a protagonist. She looks very ordinary.. like nothing exciting at all. Realism in games destroys escapism
Exactly this. She has no flare or presentation like in the original. She looks "there" and has no personality besides girl-boss features used in Alloy (who does have more expressions), whatshername from Control, and a few other female protags with strong features. None are overly feminine, but they don't have feminine personality, either. I guarantee because an XBox game when they said they don't want femininity, she will have no curves at all.
Just because the trailer looked amazing doesn't mean evverything's alright with development, remember Anthem? Mass Effect Andromeda? Cyberpunk 2077? AC Unity (or any other Ubi game)? all those had amazing trailers and interesting gameplay until they released and ended up being broken, janky as hell and nothing like what was promised. I'm hyped and want the game to be as great as the og Perfect Dark but until I see the final product and a release date that's definitive, I won't trust anything
I'm shocked no one has caught on that the modern audience is the dev team, not player-base. They don't cater to gamers and they know Progressives pirate games or aren't in majority, so they are making it for them and the DEI directive. XBox has no choice now really, so I don't know why people care about their Direct or games. They said how they will be making their games now on, so it goes without saying. The gameplay is just coating to get you in to be indoctrinated or desensitized while taking in The Message.
They really did not need to widen Joanna Dark's jaw. She looks average at best, becoming Joseph Dark at worst. There is no reason to make the games so 'realistic', because she looks so bland. Also don't have faith in the overall story. Gameplay looks promising, particularly the traversing. I am not wowed by it, though.
Perfect Dark was a huge game for me and my friends back in the day. I prefer her updated OG look over the Xbox Zero look with the orange hair personally. This new look though doesn't look like her at all and is terrible imo. When it was first announced I was so excited but with how things have changed over the past few years, I sure as hell won't buy on release. Especially with Crystal D involved. I'll wait and see. Expectations are low
I am lacking in faith with this game purely cause it's current year. I don't think these people will allow us to have a good thing. Plus, ultra realism in gaming is pretty ass.
Female protagonists now in Western games are going through the same problem male ones did before this social justice crap. They were generic, looked the same and of course the complaint was they were all white. That's the majority populace, so you get that more, but instead of doing a normal correction, it turned into racism lol! I can't recall one female from these companies that hasn't looked masculine, similar in facial features or just angry. She looks like the woman from Control, but with a haircut and probably Alloy's sister or cousin. They never resemble their face model and I think they just need to stop that practice in the first place instead of treating it like a shortcut because they don't make them comparable. It's a first person action game, I'm not sure how creative it can be aside make it polished. I always reserve judgement til a game is out for genres I'm generally not into. Perfect Dark was a cult classic for those that played it, but I advise many not to get excited from trailers as the product more often isn't the same when you get it in your hands. If I had to pick between this and Stalker 2, it would be Stalker 2.
i think the angle used in the trailer just looks terrible. With that said the game is on PC so if somebody thinks a more feminine looking character will improve their experience some minor model tweaks won't be hard to come by. I think this would have been the perfect title for Arcane.
Shes got that modern audience, Jawline.. She looks like the MC from Control.. I think its an effort to normalize trans women by normalizing masculine jawlines on women..its too common now to just be a coincidence.
She was ugly as heck on N64 too. It was so bad she got a new face for the JP version lol. They took the North America N64 face for this reboot. And you know, at this point, I'm still excited regardless. Give me perfect dark
If this game is similar to Killer Instinct (2013) is how they were able to maintain the stuff that made a classic Rareware franchise but in a modern way, then this reboot of Perfect Dark could be a hit
Gameplay wise: It looks to be a potentially decent game. I hope the story is decent and not just a predictable schtick we seen thousands of times. As for the model: Profts to the western devs for FINALLY making a female character that looks close to the model. Though Jo's face is a little too rough in the jaw area. Since the game doesn't look to be releasing anytime soon, the devs have tie to soothe out the jaw area a little.

Should have left this game alone the old one was pure classic
Joanna Dark were a redhead on N64 too. Her look is a merge from N64 and PD 2006 on 360. Nothing wrong with the look.
Stick with classic Perfect Dark for N64 and GBA and Perfect Dark Zero for the Xbox 360
PD on 360 sucked.
It’s only making people hate them more 😂
She was ugly as heck on N64 too. It was so bad she got a new face for the JP version lol. They took the North America N64 face for this reboot. And you know, at this point, I'm still excited regardless. Give me perfect dark
But the gameplay look interesting but that character model come on fam
I'm honestly tired of games nowadays with that realism look
Another game Xbox fin to fuck up and that Joanna dark wtf
If this game is similar to Killer Instinct (2013) is how they were able to maintain the stuff that made a classic Rareware franchise but in a modern way, then this reboot of Perfect Dark could be a hit
I am quitting modern video games unless it is out off this world.
About the graphics I 100% agree, I mean "ultra realistic" is cool and all but is not everything, especially in video games.
Xbox sucks and dei need to be illegal
They suck at their current situation
Honestly they give little to no fucks about the fans, especially when it come to KI
She had a man jaw lol… gonna pass
Be honestly I really liked it the Xbox show for long I time I have been exited about majority of the games
Dude
Fable - sure
Dragons age sure
But honestly you’re pulling if you think perfect dark is part of this
She’s shot from a low angle - take a photo it’s gonna look that way
Did you not watch the video, or did you just comment based on the title?
The character has male jaw bone, if you understand anatomy you would see it.
@@MugenLord I’m addressing your clickbait title and audience - just look below and your audience is saying “ male jawbone”
But honestly you’re pulling if you think implies that I did watch your video and then reading the comments and the disdain of how people are hyper sensitive makes me just realize there people calling PD woke without even playing the original games
You don’t have to create this kind of discourse because it’s endless
You personally don’t say that but you’ve open the discourse and implied that such implications could be afoot
@@ahsankhan-zg6gr I'm not "his audience", I have my opinion. And yes, male jaw bone, or any bone in a male is different than a female, it is called anatomy and biology. And not just the jaw bone, the lower part of the face is completely male. Don't speak about things you don't understand, "dude".
She looks fine to me, I draw female portraits a lot and people would be amazed to see how many natural women out there have facial features/structures that won't pass their "beautiful woman" check list. *Sigh* I just hope the gameplay is good with some replay value 😐
It's another bait and switch. I am done with AAA companies.
I'm sick of the non-existent "Modern Audiences" getting pandered to. Woke needs to be illegal.
The modern audience is the staff/dev team.
I watched it and the game seems fine. The main character face is male, maybe the eyes are fine, but the jaw bone is male, this is what some of the best character artists are saying, and I agree, it's clearly not female anatomy. Besides that the game doesn't look bad.
They gone ruin this game sounds promising but still don’t trust Xbox they on that dei non sense
This garbage game looks promising!?!? Are you effin' insane!?!?😡
lol Less insane than people saying "he only has a big jaw bone" or this guy in the comments teaching me anatomy saying "there is no such thing as male jaw bone they are all the same" the dude thinks woman and man are the same.
Forget modern squared jawanna dank palpatine ch1nb8lls it looks bout as fun as KZ Shadow Fall snoooor! I'm playing the final chapter of one the best DOOM2 TC megawad Ashes 2063 C3 Hard Reset best MadMax, Escape From LA, John Carpenter, STALKER, FALLOUT & Metro esq fps/rpg 7hr campaign that don't cost a cent to enjoy for a lifetime. The 3D modeling dept had better do some major character repair work n give us old Time N64 fans the real attractive Joanna Dark otherwise they're not getting a quarter.
