Don't understand the need to bargain when the price is already decent and you're trying on the pieces, engaging with the salespersons. People need to rid themselves of this inherent habit. They may gain a bit extra but you're not losing much. And you're 'bargaining hard' when someone's literally putting in physical labour in this weather? That's really unfortunate.
There is a standard rate set by union and there is a rate quoted by most vendors for different activities to tourists. Because most tourist (us included) are not aware of standard union rate, we fall trap to pay sometimes even as high as 100% of the actual rate. I am not saying every taxi driver or snow activity person or glove person is wrong, but in my experience taking to dozens of people during my research to kashmir trip, this has always been the common apprehension. Our taxi driver was very nice he himself told us where we were getting ripped off. For eg, the original price quoted to us for dal lake shikara ride was 5k. Imagine spending 5k on something for which the union rate (and 70% of the world is spending 1-2k) Its not bargaining- its merely getting the price down to what it should be in the first place

One of these is a relatively minor expense and the other involves physical labor. I was hoping you would not take into consideration solely your research and apply this blanket understanding to any and every vendor. Anyone will want to understand why a shikara ride or boat stay costs as much as it does, it's within your right as a customer. But a reasonable person will also let some things go because you can see how dependent these people are on tourism, how challenging the weather is and how much of an impact it will make to you if you spent 400 as opposed to 200/300 for gloves. The use of the word 'ripped off' shows you've made up your mind and are already biased. And then on top of that you let them fit those boots on you - surely you could have worn them yourself despite their insistence. I've travelled across Kashmir and Leh FYI. I'm also the proud daughter of an honest army officer so of course money will always be a consideration but I also know when to negotiate and when it's just nicer to let go :).

You need a hat that covers your head and ears. Beware of frostbite while sledding walking in snow. Fresh snow is not so much problem but 3_4 day old snow can give you frost bite if you don't wear proper wellies and gloves

Time for a pitstop and have seen the snippet on IG . Hot tea , Pakoras & Maggi - Absolutely fabulous combo . I have lost count of the number of Maggi plates we had during our trip to Kashmir 😀 In fact you need to request for soupy Maggi Noodles ( watery but ideal for the weather ) I don’t think I paid that much for the trip from the Airport & Sonmarg hotel . I experienced snow fall for the first time in 1997 in Europe , it was my most cherished experience 👍👍 At the base you will see muddy snow . However when you go deeper , you will be in a blanket of white snow and some pristine view 👌👌 Second round of tea & Maggi . Love the way KS is enjoying the snow & snow ride like a cute kid 🥰🥰 Good bargaining for the snow ride . Your hotel property is good with some lovely views 👌👌 oh good you folks have complimentary Kahwa . Trust me you will end up having a lot of warm stuff 😀 Wow good time lapse shots and it’s snowing outside 👍 Time for an early dinner - Mushroom Soup , Hara Bhara Kebab , Kashmiri Pulao & Rajma 👌👌 Please keep yourself warm and stay hydrated.
