    Thank you. I LOVE their chart and your video.
    Another great thing about Schmetz needles is: the package!
    The color photo, right behind the package, shows a sample of the type of fabric for that needle (like denim).
    Don’t work for Schmetz, just like their needles.

    Just discovered your channel yesterday & I'm so glad I did! I'm new to sewing & this video in particular came at the perfect time. I'm about to hem some pants & haven't touched my machine in months (started not quite a year ago & didn't do a lot due to life stuff) so I don't remember what needle I have in my machine & was trying to come up with a way to prevent this in the future, so when you showed that My Pad, I gasped & paused the video to go order it. Thank you so much for this video, I'll be downloading the info sheets!

      Awesome and welcome Amy!! I’m so glad you found me. Dig through some of my videos and if you’re wanting to make some easy sewing projects look at my playlist. I just hemmed three pair of pants today (I’m 5’ so I’m always hemming stuff) and it’s a great feeling to do it yourself and save $$$ That MyPad has saved me so much trouble on needles. czcams.com/play/PLbwpCJXJ_Jr57bZ3WSls002mUVBVHHGyt.html

      Yes! The best place to start is the Universal 80/12. Watch the section about the “5 most common needles” again, those are the ones I’d recommend you begin with. Then you’ve got a nice selection. I’m here if you have specific questions. Sookie :)

    I just discovered this channel and it’s amazing. I love the thoroughness of the videos she posts. She doesn’t miss any step and step description. I had a question regarding nylon zippers. I break needles every time I sew across them. Can someone help please?!? What needle do I use? I haven’t seen a tutorial on how to sew across them 😕

    • @SookieSews
      @SookieSews  Před 2 lety

      Wow, thank you! I really appreciate that sweet review. As for stitching over zippers, it depends on the type of zipper. There are essentially three types of zippers: Plastic, Nylon Coil, and Metal. I don't stitch over any of them except the Nylon Coil, usually with a Universal needle size 80/12. You might also watch my video here exactly at 9:41 seconds where I sew over a nylon coil zipper. This is a widder zipper too, pay close attention to my tips and tricks. czcams.com/video/zw_x11aTgUY/video.html

      @@SookieSews thank you so much for your response. I’m obsessed with your channel. For a beginner your channel is perfect because you some assume the viewer doesn’t know how to perform any step. You walk through everything, which I love.
      Thanks for the instructions with nylon zippers. When dealing with plastic zippers, do you have any advice or videos I can watch? Thanks so much

      I sure appreciate you subscribing and becoming apart of our Sewing Beehive :)
      As for plastic zippers I’m not a huge fan of them so I can’t think of any videos I’ve used them on but typically I’d use my hand wheel to sew slowly over them and even if it means move the fabric/zipper along the way to help prevent the needle even going through the zipper then I’d do that. You might check out my friend Annie from ByAnnie.com. She sells zippers and has gobs of videos on how to install them. I bet she’s got some tips on plastic zippers.

    What a helpful video! I didn't know there were different kinds of knit needles!
    Speaking of those, I've always thought that one had to have a serger in order to sew knits. (And I don't own one.) Can a person sew knit fabrics using a knit needle in a basic machine?
    Thanks so much, Sookie!

    • @SookieSews
      @SookieSews  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes absolutely!! A serger is a useful way to finish edges and you can even sew the entire garment on a serger in many cases but a sewing machine can sew knits as long as you use the right needle. You might consider a “stretch” stitch too. It looks sorta like a teeny tiny angled zigzag stitch. Let me k no ow of you have any other questions.

    Well, I learned that sometimes it’s the needle, but sometimes it’s the machine. I did not know that beginner machines may not have the “horsepower” to force a needle through denim, canvas, etc.
