I thought I'd do a little video Review showing what you can put in a Dakine Hot Laps 2 Litre Hip pack.
Is it possible that the Dakine Hot Laps 2L is the best MTB Hip Pack ? Maybe, maybe not - But I love it.
Liked this - Try my Evoc 16L CC Review - • EVOC CC 16L Hydration ...
I'm quite late to the waist pack revolution and have only had this for a few spring and summer months hence its quite clean still!

I've recently just been sent a larger hydration bag from SOURCE - here are my first impressions - czcams.com/video/S8MDa4JQh3k/video.html
I have the very same Hot Laps bag as that! Got all my stuff in it:
- A spare tube rolled up into a roll of gaffa tape
- tyre levers
- Zip-ties
- Tools
- Microfibre cloth
- A pump (the same as yours)
- a banana
- 2 x Nakd bars (blueberry muffin)
- A spare t-shirt (a long sleeve if I wear a short sleeve and vice versa)
- A pac-a-mac if I don't carry a spare T-shirt
- A handy little front light (to be seen not really to see)
- The bottle on the side of course (plus one on my frame)
- Some caribeeners on the loops for any spare bits (don't know what yet)
- A rear light on the loop
I was going to get the 5L Hot Laps with the water bladder, but I'd end up taking more crap with me. If you have the space you tend to fill it, so I went with the 2L.
Less is more (fun)
PS
I got it after seeing a guy wearing one up by Caerphilly Mountain (Strava-July 7). Might've been you!? I was pedalling up that massive hill from the Black Cock Inn. You came down the trail from the mountain and went into the trails across the road? (overgrown bridal path, sting nettle valley descent, descent No2,)
JBone XC you got loads in there!!!
JBone XC it wasn’t me you saw btw
Ordered one. Thanks Tim 👍
If only I was on commission.... LOL
Good vid Tim, you converted me to try waist packs and the louri strap, feel very free with them, I also have a water bottle and cage just for more water.
Thanks mate. 1 bottle on the waist and 1 on the bike you can still carry 2x750ml
@@TimFromWales my one has a 1.5 litre bladder inside.
If you found this useful why not check out my Evoc 16C back pack review too - czcams.com/video/3X2IEgMbnsU/video.html
A great informative watch mate. Thank you. I have been looking lately at the Camelback waist bag. Understand that to have an internal bladder.. not all too expensive from Go Outdoors considering Camelback backpacks often cost a small fortune.
How much are these dakine packs? When the going gets tough, does the bottle stay in it's holder?
JD MTB hi... I’d be tempted to get a bigger one with a bladder but I think that extra weight will slip about. I might be tempted to try the Source Hydration one as it has some shoulder straps also to keep the pack in place.
With this one the bottle will go up to a 750ml and there is a securing band that will prevent it for jumping out on tough stuff. That said I’ve never used it and find it to be pretty secure anyway.
This pack cost about £30
@@TimFromWales a bargain if it only comes in handy for canal path style riding.
Mountain Biking really isn't a cheap hobby when it comes to trial and error.
Nice vid def worth a look 😁
Me or the waist pack? I’m worth a look usually but I decided to stay off camera this time 🤣
💪🏼🤣
Do you know if these hotlaps bags be worn like sling bags? Is the strap long enough?
Hi Aaron - yes definitely long enough but they will slip and you will find the weight around your side unless you can find a way of prevent it then from slipping. Unlike most slings they don’t have a grippy strap as you want them to be able to swivel around your waist for access.
But you can wear them like this and I’ve done that in the past
I want a waist pack so I can carry my knee pads and elbow pads. I hate wearing those on the ride up. Wondering which one will fit all that. I hate wearing backpacks.
You'll definitely need a bigger one than this. but if you look at this video (czcams.com/video/FoUAgl5A8hY/video.html) you'll see I have some ideas with straps or maybe even small fold away bag???
TimFromWales that helps!!! Thanks!! What are the best padded undershorts you recommend for mountain biking? I bought a pair and they are just too small and I got a large so I guess I’ll get an extra large this time.
Also. Do you have Instagram. I would like to follow you
Here's our solution, the upgraded Hipster pack with 5L storage and compression straps to keep the volume low and the weight close to your body at all times. Let us know if you want to possibly do a followup with our pack: czcams.com/video/tg4hl0xu_iw/video.html
I saw that video yesterday. Big fan of your bladder system and would love to try your new Hipster Ultra
